US may be placed on UK's COVID-19 quarantine 'red list', report says

On Monday, UK Health Minister Matt Hancock hailed the country's compulsory hotel quarantine rules as something that "will provide another layer of security" against new variants of the coronavirus.

Britain's quarantine "red list" is set to be expanded and may include the US and Spain, a move that will essentially ban all American and Spanish citizens from entering Britain, The Daily Telegraph reports.

Under London's new hotel quarantine scheme, anyone travelling to the UK from 33 coronavirus hotspots will have to stay in a government-approved facility for 10 nights.
"The US and Spain are on the list so it means some of the bigger markets will be considered by officials as part of the discussions before being put to ministers. It will be based on evidence from the Joint Biosecurity Centre (JBC)", the newspaper cited an unnamed government source as saying on Friday.
The remarks followed representatives of the UK Department of Transport meeting the country's health officials on Thursday to discuss the latest data on the new, more contagious variants of COVID-19 in the US and Spain.

Right of reply: Lockdowns contradict a century of pre-Covid science

closed business lockdown
The following is a right of reply by Pandemics Data and Analytics (Panda) to the article Panda's Covid-19 claims 'less than scientific', unhelpful.
Panda was formed by private individuals who noticed that a lockdown was being imposed in South Africa without any impact assessment. Our principal observation was that before a rational decision could be taken to impose lockdown measures designed to save lives, the government needed to know how many lives would be impacted as a direct result of the lockdown.

We assembled a team of experts including in medicine, economics, actuarial science and statistics and we set about calculating the cost ourselves. We did this out of love for our country and our fellow citizens.

There was a fair personal cost attached to the work we did.

Like you, we were struggling with the stresses of an uncertain professional environment and having to learn to become teachers to our children. We burned the candle at both ends and as Panda grew so did the reputational risk of being involved. Many of our members could not handle the pressure brought to bear on them through their professional associations and employers or simply from the realities of trying to work for Panda and put food on the table.

We carried on because the work we have done has convinced us that the lockdown will result in severe hardship for the average South African. We see that it will shorten lives, it will transfer wealth from the poor and the middle class to the rich thereby widening the wealth gap and it will entrench the privilege of the Zoom class by insulating the rich who are served by those who cannot afford to stay home and social distance.

Bill Gates: Social media companies should eventually allow Trump back

Bill Gates said in an interview broadcast Thursday that social media companies should eventually allow former President Trump back on their platforms after he was banned last month following the deadly riot at the U.S. Capitol.

"I think at some point he probably will be allowed back on and probably should be allowed back on," Gates told CNBC when asked whether he would allow the former president back on social media if he were a Facebook official.

Trump was banned from Twitter last month following the siege of the Capitol on Jan. 6 while Congress was certifying President Biden's victory. Twitter at the time said the former president's tweets posed "the risk of further incitement of violence."

Activists had prepared second 'toolkit' to organise a Twitter storm aimed at "creating unrest" in Delhi, could not execute it: Delhi police

greta activist toolkit case
Delhi police deepens investigation in the Greta Thunberg 'toolkit' case, writes to Zoom seeking details.
The police officials privy to the case furthered that the second document was created by High Court lawyer Nikta Jacob, Shantanu Muluk, the two activists who have also been accused of creating and sharing the first document, along with a UK-based activist Marina Patterson.

The Cyber Cell of the Delhi Police probing the Greta toolkit case has confirmed that the 'activists' involved in the creation of a 'toolkit' on the ongoing farmers' protests had prepared a second document also. According to a report by the Hindustan Times, the second toolkit aimed at organising a Twitter storm to "create unrest" in Delhi on February 4 and 5.

The 'activists' had used hashtags related to the violence during January 26 tractor rally in the second toolkit to incite their supporters on social media, but were unable to release and execute it, said the Delhi police.

Attorney: Ghislaine Maxwell 'withering to a shell of her former self' in jail

© The Arctic Circle via ReutersGhislaine Maxwell speaks at the Arctic Circle Forum in Reykjavik, Iceland October 2013.
British socialite and accused sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell is "withering" away while she is in jail due to what her attorney describes as harsh conditions.

"She is withering to a shell of her former self — losing weight, losing hair, and losing her ability to concentrate," attorney Bobbi Sternheim wrote of Maxwell, according to CNBC. "It is impossible to overstate the deleterious effect of the conditions under which Ms. Maxwell is detained."

Maxwell is being held in connection to charges she is facing for perjury and allegedly recruiting underage girls for Jeffery Epstein, the disgraced financier and sex offender who killed himself while in prison.

Comment: While few people are going to feel much sympathy for Maxwell, it's important to keep in mind that no one deserves abuse and torture while in prison, no matter what crimes they're accused of. These allegations should be investigated and, if actually true, stopped. Everyone deserves dignity and basic human decency while awaiting a verdict. Her punishment will come later (we hope).

Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation behind 'anti-racist' math push

Liberal education collective claims asking students to show work is racist.

A radical new push to purge math curricula of allegedly racist practices like showing your work and finding the correct answer is bankrolled by one of the nation's most prominent nonprofits: the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.

The Gates Foundation is the only donor mentioned on the homepage of A Pathway to Equitable Math Instruction, a group of 25 education organizations whose curriculum states that asking students to show their work and find the right answer is an inherently racist practice.

Comment: The idea that to use mathematics to problem solve is a 'white thing' is inherently racist on its face. No non-white cultures ever used math? One has to wonder if there's another agenda at work here that involves discouraging teachers from teaching their students math, as we've seen with the Common Core program.

Too late: CNN says ban reinstated on Chris Cuomo covering his brother, Gov. Cuomo

CNN claimed Wednesday that it has reinstated a "rule" that prevents Chris Cuomo from "interviewing or covering his brother" — after the host completely ignored the nursing home death cover-up scandal engulfing Gov. Andrew Cuomo.

Last year, Chris Cuomo repeatedly interviewed his older brother about the coronavirus pandemic, engaging in often-cringey banter that initially helped boost the ratings for the 9 p.m. Cuomo Prime Time.

But the controversy over the Cuomo administration's admitted cover-up of nursing home death numbers — exclusively revealed by The Post last week — hasn't been mentioned on Chris' hour-long show.

Shopkeeper who stopped robbery in California ARRESTED for discharging his gun by shooting in the air

Police
© YouTube / Oakland PoliceOakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong is shown in a press briefing on Tuesday, urging residents to rely on his department to deal with rising crime.
An Oakland liquor store owner in violence-besieged Chinatown shot into the air to stop the robbery of a woman in front of his shop, only to be arrested as police signaled that armed resistance to a crime wave won't be tolerated.

The merchant was reportedly bailed out on Tuesday after being arrested for felony assault with a firearm. The arrest stemmed from an incident in which the 36-year-old man shot into the air four times after seeing a woman being violently robbed, prompting the alleged robber to run away with her camera.

"We don't want our business owners or others to begin to arm themselves," Oakland Police Chief LeRonne Armstrong told reporters on Tuesday. He said there could be unintended consequences when citizens shoot at alleged criminals, such as striking innocent bystanders or creating confusion when officers arrive on scene and try to identify an assailant. "We want them to observe and report," he added, and "be good witnesses."

Ayaan Hirsi Ali's book 'Prey' is uncomfortable for a West that can't admit its issues with Islamic migration, but she isn't wrong

Ayaan Hirsi Ali
© AFPActivist and author Ayaan Hirsi Ali speaks at the National Press Club, April 7, 2015 in Washington, DC.
The author, refugee and former Dutch MP says Islam's treatment of women is eroding their rights as aggressive young male asylum seekers fail to integrate in their host countries and import the brutal misogyny of their homelands.

Across the world, Muslim men keep their wives locked indoors, so much so that some suffer a vitamin D deficiency. But don't take my word for it, there's an expert out there with all the evidence and that's Ayaan Hirsi Ali who details pretty much all you need to know in her latest forensic study of the issue in Prey: Immigration, Islam and the Erosion of Women's Rights.

Born a Muslim in Somalia and raised in the Middle East before she emigrated to Europe where she became a Dutch MP just 12 years later, Hirsi Ali is a lightning rod for liberals who accuse her of Islamophobia, racism, bigotry, hate speech and alt-right opinions. None of which ring true if you would just read her book.

She explores the reality that in the religion of Islam, women are not considered equal to men. They are the chattels to be owned. Why else would a man wish to have multiple wives? It is like those millionaires who own garages full of cars. Look at me, look what I can afford, look how many cars/wives/racehorses I have.

It's not just Dubai, with its glitzy veneer of sun and luxury beach tourism masking a conservative Muslim state, that has a problem. Just this week in Palestine, a Hamas-run court in the Gaza Strip ruled that women must have the permission of a male guardian before they travel. As a reminder, the year is 2021.
