Serres was faced with a very heavy downpour on Wednesday afternoon (17/6), with flooding recorded in the Nigrita area, while there were problems in several parts of the road network of the Serres regional unit.

According to information from lionnews.gr , almost the entire city of Nigrita was flooded. The waters covered central streets and alleys, creating an extremely difficult situation for residents and drivers, while fears are being expressed for damage to underground and ground-floor buildings.


All available cleaning crews of the Municipality of Visaltia were found on the streets of Nigrita, as well as in the surrounding areas, attempting under adverse conditions to clean the flooded wells and facilitate the drainage of water.

The situation was equally dramatic in the Visaltia plain. Crops were completely covered in water, with farmers in the area watching in anguish as their property was destroyed.

In the road network, the most critical and dangerous point was previously located on the provincial road connecting Nigrita to Kerdylia, specifically at the height of Patrikiou. The enormous volume of water that rushed down from the mountain turned the road into a torrent, making passage almost impossible.
