This bright bolide was spotted from Spain on June 6, at 1:38 local time (equivalent to June 5 at 23:38 universal time). At the start of the video, the fireball has been sonified by for outreach purposes: its light was converted into sound by means of a new technique developed by Dr. Madiedo in the framework of the SMART survey. The event was generated by a rock (a meteoroid) from a comet that hit the atmosphere at about 90,000 km/h. The fireball overflew Córdoba and Badajoz. It began at an altitude of about 102 km over Hinojosa del Duque (province of Córdoba), moved northwest, and ended at a height of around 58 km over Zarza Capilla (province of Badajoz). This bright meteor was recorded in the framework of the SMART project, operated by the Southwestern Europe Meteor Network (SWEMN) from the meteor-observing stations located at Huelva, La Hita (Toledo), Calar Alto (Almería), Sierra Nevada, La Sagra (Granada), Sevilla, Otura (Granada), and Mazagón (Huelva).

A Hong Kong resident captured a striking luminous object racing across the south‑western sky above Mong Kok at about 3.30am on 5th June, slicing through cloud before vanishing into the night. Responding to enquiries, the Hong Kong Observatory said the object's brightness, shape and high speed were consistent with a typical fireball meteor, though no formal sightings were logged. Fireballs are unusually bright meteors. In astronomical terms, some define them as meteors brighter than magnitude −3 — a level that outshines Jupiter and even Venus — which explains why they stand out so vividly after dark. Like ordinary meteors, fireballs occur when fragments of space debris plunge into Earth's atmosphere and glow through intense frictional heating. Their extra brilliance usually points to larger pieces of material, such as stony fragments or small asteroid shards, and they can burn for longer than standard shooting stars. Colours seen during a fireball's passage arise from different...

An official at the authority says that the fireball broke up at a speed above 120,000 km per hour The fireball causing the loud boom in the State of Massachusetts in the United States broke up at a speed above 120,000 km per hour, a NASA official told TASS. "Current available information puts the fireball's speed at roughly 75,000 mph [120,700 km/h - TASS], and it appears to have fragmented at an altitude of 40 miles [64.3 km - TASS] above extreme northeast Massachusetts/southeast New Hampshire," the NASA official said. "The energy released at breakup is estimated to be equivalent to about 300 tons of TNT, which accounts for the loud booms," the official noted. This fireball "was a natural object and not a re-entry of space debris or a satellite," the official added.

This astronomical event was visible from Mexico City and Pachuca around 9:00 p.m. The moment was shared by the National Coordination of Civil Protection and the National Center for Disaster Prevention (Cenapred) through the social networks of Webcams de México , in a YouTube video and X (Twitter). At precisely 8:54 PM , the meteor was captured crossing the sky near Don Goyo (Goyo's nickname ) and, seconds later, seemingly just before touching the ground, it vanished. The phenomenon was also seen south of Mexico City and in the area of the Clock Monument in Pachuca, Hidalgo. (Translated by Google)

A meteor was recorded passing over the slopes of Mayon Volcano on Monday evening, May 25, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs). Phivolcs said its Ligñon Hill IP Camera in Legazpi City captured the meteor at around 10:33 p.m., but noted that it disintegrated while still in the atmosphere and did not reach the slopes of Mayon. At the time of the sighting, the active volcano in Albay was on its 140th consecutive day of effusive eruption, marked by the slow outflow of lava and intermittent pyroclastic density currents. Earlier in the evening, the volcano generated lava collapse-fed pyroclastic density currents (PDCs), or "uson," along the Mi-isi and Basud gullies, as well as minor strombolian activity, which refers to short explosive bursts that eject glowing volcanic material and produce brief lava fountains.

A traffic camera from Launceston, in the state's north, captured the event just before 9:30pm. The bright light was also seen in southern parts of Tasmania. "The object flashed a few times as it was coming down, almost certainly because it was breaking up and the light sort of came and went and left a bit of a trail," said Martin George, the principal astronomer of the Ulverstone Planetarium at Hive Tasmania. "This is very typical of an object burning up in the atmosphere, a natural object."

Just as it faces an annual hurricane season and tornado season, North America is also experiencing an annual "fireball season," according to NASA. "From February through April, the appearance rate of these very bright meteors can increase by as much as 10 percent to 30 percent, especially around the weeks of the March equinox," NASA explained in a statement in late March. "Exactly why is not known. Some astronomers think the Earth passes through more large debris at this time of year, causing an uptick in fireball sightings." But the relatively regular peak season appears to have been unusually active this year.

Witness accounts emerged from multiple areas across Korea on Friday evening of a large, oval-shaped object burning as it fell from the sky. According to local media outlet Yonhap, an unnamed Incheon resident saw what appeared to be a large shooting star falling while driving near Sipjeong-dong in Bupyeong District at around 8:43 p.m. Footage from the vehicle's dashboard camera showed the object falling with a long trail of fire behind it and appearing to break apart once or twice as it descended. A similar sight was reported in Yangju, Gyeonggi. Yonhap quoted an unnamed resident in the region as saying that "an unidentified object fell from the sky near Cheonbo Tunnel in Hoeam-dong, Yangju."

Scientists in central Poland have recovered a rare iron meteorite believed to be the remnant of a spectacular fireball that streaked across the sky on April 17. The 2.9-kilogram meteorite was discovered near Łódź in the village of Zadzim on Wednesday, just five days after it flew over Poland. The rapid recovery makes it the first iron meteorite in Poland to be found so quickly after an observed fall, and one of only a handful worldwide with a precisely reconstructed orbit, the Skytinel meteor research network said on Friday.

"We all screamed when it happened, I was so excited!" reports Ian Sproat who photographed the object from the Northumberland coastline of England: "I was out taking pictures of the Milky Way rising over Lindisfarne (also known as 'Holy Island') when this huge fire ball passed through the frame creating an insane contrast of stars, landscape, and drama," he says.
