Leaked emails show NIH head Collins and Fauci colluding to smear Great Barrington Declaration doctors who called to end lockdowns

'There needs to be a quick and devastating take down'

Dr. Anthony Fauci and the head of the National Institute of Health (NIH) colluded on a way to discredit an alternative plan to deal with COVID from a group of experts, released emails reveal.

The emails, some of which were tweeted out on Saturday by Phil Magness, senior research faculty and interim research and education director at the American Institute for Economic Research (AIER), show Fauci and Francis Collins attempting to coordinate a 'devastating takedown' of the Great Barrington Declaration.

AIER, a libertarian think tank, sponsored the declaration, which largely abandons lockdowns in favor of a herd immunity strategy that allows life to return to normal.

Comment: Unfortunately the last section shows the Daily Mail still feels the need to toe the official line on the Covid narrative. Still, where is the US reporting on Fauci's and Collin's despicable behavior?

Year of the new normal fascist

New Year
© Off-Guardian
And so, as 2021 goose-steps toward its fanatical finish, it is time for my traditional year-end wrap-up. It's "The Year of the Ox" in the Chinese zodiac, but I'm christening it "The Year of the New Normal Fascist."

And what a phenomenally fascist year it has been!

I'm not talking amateur fascism. I am talking professional Class-A fascism. Government and corporate sanctified fascism. Bug-eyed, spittle-flecked, hate-drunk fascism.

I'm talking mobs of New Normal fascists shrieking hatred and threats at "the Unvaccinated" as they are dragged off "Vaccinated Only" trains, painting Nazi-era messages on their windows of their stores, leaders of government fomenting mass hatred, TV commentators literally quoting sadistic Nazi SS doctors, leftists going full-fascist on Facebook, concentration camps, Goebbelsian propaganda, censorship of dissent...the whole nine yards.

Here in Europe, things are particularly fascist. One by one, New Normal countries are rolling out social-segregation systems, ordering "lockdowns" of "the Unvaccinated," and otherwise persecuting those who refuse to conform to official New Normal ideology.

Austria has made "vaccinations" mandatory. Germany is about to follow suit. "Covid passes" have been approved in the UK. Greece is fining "Unvaccinated" pensioners by reducing the amount of their state-pension payments. Swedes are "chipping" themselves. And so on.

In New Normal Germany, "the Unvaccinated" are under de facto house arrest. We are banned from society. We are banned from traveling. We are banned from protesting. Our writings are censored. We're demonized and dehumanized by the New Normal government, the state and corporate media, and the New Normal masses on a daily basis. New Normal goon squads roam the streets, brutalizing pensioners, raiding barber shops, checking "papers," measuring social distances, literally, as in with measuring sticks.

The Gestapo even arrested Santa Claus for not wearing a mask at a Christmas market.

China cuts benchmark loan rate for first time in almost 2 years amid mounting economic pressures

China cut its benchmark lending rate for the first time in almost two years on Monday providing support to an economy showing strain from a property slump and sporadic coronavirus virus outbreaks.

The one-year loan prime rate (LPR) - on which most new and outstanding loans are based - was cut from 3.85 per cent to 3.8 per cent at the December fixing, while the five-year LPR - which is a reference for mortgages - remained at 4.65 per cent, according to the People's Bank of China (PBOC).

The LPR has been considered China's de facto benchmark funding cost since 2019. The rate is decided by a group of 18 banks and is reported in the form of a spread over the interest rate of the central bank's medium-term lending facility.

Comment: China has been taking a variety of measures to deal with a possible default from some of the country's largest property developers - including the largest, Evergrande - as well as preventative measures, such as its ban on cryptocurrency speculation by financial institutions, but it remains to be seen whether it will be enough to weather the coming global financial storm: Also check out SOTT radio's: NewsReal: Pandemia Today, Pandemia Tomorrow, But Not Forever

Best of the Web: The dangerous futility of US military aid and NATO aspirations for Ukraine

Ukraine NATO
© Sputnik / Mikhail Markiv

Key points
  1. Since the 2014 Russian annexation of Crimea, the U.S. has provided $2.5 billion in military aid to Ukraine. Continued security assistance prolongs the conflict and heightens U.S.-Russia tensions.
  2. Russia shares a 1,200-mile border with Ukraine and views the prospect of Kyiv joining NATO and basing U.S. and allied forces there as a threat. Russia will absorb significant costs — monetary and human — to prevent this outcome.
  3. A resolution in Ukraine that does not account for Russia's concerns is unrealistic; therefore, U.S. and European leaders should account for them, starting with ruling out Ukrainian accession to NATO.
  4. Because of the risk of escalation, potentially to nuclear war, the United States should seek détente with Russia and support the establishment of a neutral, non-aligned Ukraine that serves as a buffer state between Russia and the West.
Repeating the same mistakes in Ukraine

President Biden met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the White House in September 2021 and reiterated the U.S. commitment to Ukraine's territorial sovereignty. The meeting suggests the Biden administration intends to continue the failed policy of his two predecessors: providing piecemeal security assistance to Ukraine and supporting its eventual accession to NATO.

Angela Merkel's rival Friedrich Merz and the vast, shadowy power of BlackRock

Comment: Friedrich Merz is set to take over the CDU leadership in January 2022

Friedrich Merz

Friedrich Merz, Angela Merkel's old political rival, is out to replace her as head of the Christian Democratic Union (CDU) and potentially the German government. If successful, he would be the first German leader to come directly out of the so-called shadow banking system, and the first leader to have previously been a highly paid lobbyist for a global financial institution.

Shadow banks are generally defined as financial institutions that work like banks but aren't subject to the same regulatory systems. Their growing power, which dwarfs the likes of Amazon, Facebook and Google (all of which BlackRock invests money in) means that financial market speculation has become one of the biggest movers of money in the world.

Many critics of the market system believe this destabilizes the world economy by incentivizing risk, the trade in bad loans, and investing via unregulated markets, known as "dark pools." The rise of shadow banking has been blamed for causing the subprime mortgage catastrophe of 2007-2008 and the global recession that followed.

Merz heads the supervisory board of the German branch of BlackRock, the biggest asset management corporation in the world, which controls some $6.3 trillion (€5.56 trillion) in assets — twice Germany's gross domestic product.

US hypersonic weapon test fails third time in a row

The US military didn't succeed in conducting a test of a hypersonic missile prototype, with the munition failing to decouple from its carrier aircraft. This is the third failure in a row for the US ARRW hypersonic weapon program.

The unsuccessful attempt to test the new missile prototype was made by the US Air Force on Wednesday. The munition failed to leave its carrier aircraft for an unspecified reason, returning safely back to the ground.

"On 15 Dec. 2021, the Department of the Air Force attempted a booster test flight of the AGM-183A Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW) from a B-52 Stratofortress," Air Force Brig. Gen. Heath Collins told The War Zone magazine in a statement.

How MI6 and BBC spread China's debt trap myth

CHina port sri lanka
© GettyThe port facility at Hambantota, in Sri Lanka, in 2015. A lender like China can end up with nothing, rather than the assets desired. A new government or a change of leadership in the borrowing country can renege on a deal and there is not much Beijing can do.
Spymasters the world over are in the business of dissimulation. But if you are the new head of British intelligence, Richard Moore, mainstream media in Britain from the BBC to the Daily Mail will take your words as gospel.

The Daily Mail only repeated the MI6 chief's dubious claims about China's "debt trap" diplomacy, many points of which have proved to be factually false over time.

The BBC went out of its way to twist the words of an American academic authority on the subject to make her appear to say the opposite of her actual position.

Comment: The Debt Trap sounds quite similar to the very real Shock Doctrine used by the West to cripple countries in order to drain them of wealth and coerce them into compliance: The Shock Doctrine: The Rise of Disaster Capitalism (Documentary)

The minutes reportedly call the timing of new measures "critical"

The leaked Sage meeting minutes reportedly say stricter measures "could substantially reduce the peak in hospital admissions"

Stricter measures are needed "very soon" in England if ministers want to stop hospital admissions increasing to 3,000 per day, experts have said.

In leaked minutes seen by the BBC, a document from a meeting of the Scientific Advisory Group for Emergencies (Sage) held on Thursday says there are "many uncertainties" about the future path of hospitalisations linked to the new Omicron variant.

Israel doesn't fear an Iranian nuke, but the rise of a Persian economic powerhouse

Kochavi
© Getty ImagesIsraeli Armed Forces Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Aviv Kochavi
Trita Parsi, the co-founder of the Quincy Institute, just published an incisive essay last week criticizing US President Biden's policy toward Iran, and its obsequiousness to Israel. Parsi argues that the US made a major strategic mistake at the beginning of his term when it delayed re-entering the JCPOA agreement for several months, during which Iran's moderate government was toppled and replaced with a hardline clerical regime.

During this period, Biden was attempting in vain to negotiate with Israel an understanding which would allow them both to be on the same page regarding the proposed nuclear deal. But the US discovered, to its chagrin, that no deal would ever satisfy Israel. The result, Parsi argues, is precious lost time.

But perhaps there needs to be a realization that the US should sever itself from the possibility for a shared understanding with Israel regarding such an agreement. It should instead pursue its own interests without regard to Israel's threats (against Iran) and complaints (about the JCPOA agreement); because Israel has engaged in manipulation, projecting a doomsday scenario regarding Iran's nuclear ambitions. Nor has it ever offered a reasonable or pragmatic approach to nuclear negotiations with Iran.

Again: Biden accidentally calls VP 'President' Kamala Harris

biden calls kamala president
© Getty ImagesBidens slipped again on December 17, 2021. This is the third time Biden has accidentally referred to his VP as "president."
President Biden mistakenly promoted his vice president in a Friday speech, touting "President" Kamala Harris — before claiming that humans would be able to travel commercially at 15 times the speed of a bullet in 20 years.

"All kidding aside, of course President Harris is a proud Howard alum," Biden said during graduation remarks at South Carolina State University, repeating a gaffe that he's made at least twice before, most recently in March.

The misspeak came as Democrats — including Harris and Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg — vie to replace Biden, 79, if he chooses not to seek a second term in 2024.

Comment: RT reports that Kammy was a bit thin-skinned in her latest interview:
Asked which "Joe" was the "real president of this country," Harris insisted at first in a resigned tone, "Come on Charlamagne, it's Joe Biden," talking over his attempted replies - "I can't tell sometimes" - with a torrent of patronizing no's.

"It's Joe Biden," she repeated, growing increasingly heated and accusing Charlamagne of "talking like a Republican about asking whether or not he's president" as she lapsed into an increasingly self-congratulatory monologue regarding the pair's plans for their presidency.

Manchin, a thorn in the side of the Democratic Party for his refusal to drop everything and toe the party line, remained unmentioned by the VP, though Charlamagne attempted to derail Harris' monologue by asking once more, "Do you think Joe Manchin is a problem?" He had repeatedly attempted to draw out Harris' opinion of Manchin earlier in the show.

Harris instead reminded Charlamagne of her name and position, waving her finger condescendingly as if speaking to a child. "And the reality is that because we are in office, we do the things like the child tax credit which is going to reduce black child poverty by 50%," she said, admitting the administration was "on track" to do that rather than actually accomplishing it.

"We do things that are about saying that our Department of Justice is going to do these investigations and require that we end choke holds and have body cameras," she continued, seemingly prizing talk over action. Removing lead from pipes and increasing the "dignity" of those who ride public transit were also on the list, as was bringing down prescription drug costs and reducing black maternal mortality rates. While most of the issues remain unaddressed one year into the presidency as the administration has focused on Covid-19 aid and vaccine mandates, the debt ceiling, attempting to slay the filibuster, and other partisan issues, they remain key priorities.

Charlamagne managed to rescue the segment from that tangent by praising her for her ferocious, if unrelated, delivery. "I just want you to know that Madam Vice President, that Kamala Harris, that's the one I like ... that's the one I'd like to see more often out here in these streets."

While he later tried to convince Harris to blame the Democrats' issues on Manchin, she refused to do so, instead blaming the problems on elected officials "all over" and even dredged up the specter of the January 6 Capitol riot.

Manchin's refusal to back Democratic voting-rights initiatives, which would require overhauling the filibuster - a legislative move that allows a slim majority to block the passage of a bill - or embrace a massive combination infrastructure-social spending package have rankled his party. He has accused the Democrats of hiding the true costs of the $1.75 trillion package, and pointed out that should the filibuster be dismantled, the consequences if Congress falls back into the hands of the Republican Party would be disastrous.

Harris has suffered from plummeting approval ratings as the Biden administration has failed to deliver on many of its promises, leaving the nation mired in inflation and economic catastrophe on top of the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic. A Suffolk University poll last month found just 28% approved of Harris' handling of her job, with 51% disapproving.
