An academic community plays a valuable role in the quest for knowledge. A vital part of this is being willing to consider scientific and other empirical data that may involve controversial issues and perspectives. Following a recent interview that gained national attention, Dr. Allyn Walker has released the following statement.UPDATE 17/11/2021: Old Dominion University has placed Dr. Allyn Walker on leave:
"I want to be clear: child sexual abuse is morally wrong and inexcusable crime. As an assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice, the goal of my research is to prevent crime. My work is informed by my past experience and advocacy as a social worker counseling victims. I embarked on this research in hopes of gaining understanding of a group that, previously, has not been studied in order to identify ways to protect children."
Following recent social media activity and direct outreach to the institution, it is important to share that Old Dominion, as a caring and inclusive community, does not endorse or promote crimes against children or any form of criminal activity.
"Old Dominion University has placed Dr. Allyn Walker on administrative leave, effective immediately, from their position as assistant professor of sociology and criminal justice," read a statement from the Norfolk-based university on Tuesday. The statement added that "the controversy over Dr. Walker's research has disrupted the campus and community environment and is interfering with the institution's mission of teaching and learning."
"I want to state in the strongest terms possible that child sexual abuse is morally wrong and has no place in our society," said ODU President Brian Hemphill.
Walker, who goes by they/them pronouns, published a book this summer entitled A Long, Dark Shadow. In it, Walker sympathetically discussed the plight of "Minor-Attracted People" or "MAPs" and argued that these people - considered "pedophiles" by most - deserve recognition and dignity.
Walker's comments were met with a furious backlash online, and Old Dominion's statement on Tuesday was not the first time the university attempted to quell the controversy. On Saturday, Old Dominion initially defended Walker's work, stating that academics should be "willing to consider scientific and other empirical data that may involve controversial issues and perspectives."

Australia's Jewish community has condemned the repeated displays of Nazi references at anti-vaccine and anti-lockdown rallies in Victoria, some of which saw the state premier depicted as Adolf Hitler.
Daniel Aghion, the president of the Jewish Community Council of Victoria, claims that references to the genocidal regime of the Nazis amid the current unrest over pandemic rules is a false equivalence.
"The Nazis had the intention of wiping from the face of the Earth a race or religion simply because of what they were," Aghion told Guardian Australia. "Nothing in the current proposals is remotely like that, and the comparison to Nazi Germany is therefore shocking, inappropriate and wrong," he added.
Aghion's comments come after demonstrators, protesting against pandemic laws, referenced Nazi Germany in an effort to make their point. Some carried placards depicting state premier, Daniel Andrews, as Hitler.
Comment: It's likely that this rise in sudden and unexpected deaths, along with a variety of other unusual ailments and illnesses, have only just begun, and, despite the best attempts of governments and the media to distort reality, the facts will out, whether the masses will react remains to be seen.
However, note that children are the latest targets of the jab pushers, and that may just tip the balance somewhat; although, sadly, as we've seen with the roll out for young adults, it may take some time before the harm that has been inflicted on children becomes undeniable:
