The continent is the new focus of American biolab activities, the Defense Ministry in Moscow has claimed

The US is significantly expanding its military-biological presence in Africa, raising concerns about sovereignty and healthcare dependencies among participating nations, new analysis from the Russian military has claimed.

According to documents presented on Tuesday, the US is collaborating with local ministries, private contractors, and Big Pharma companies to implement American standards in biological safety and health management in Africa.

The documents indicate that the US military-biological presence on the African continent is rapidly expanding. Studies on the resistance of pathogenic microorganisms to medical drugs are reportedly being conducted in 18 African countries, while funding is provided through the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Here is a breakdown of the countries mentioned in the report from the Russian military.

Ghana and Djibouti

Branches of the US Navy Medical Center are located in these countries, where work is being conducted to isolate and sequence pathogens in natural disease hotspots.

Nigeria

In 2024, a joint medical research center and a military medical laboratory were established in Nigeria, staffed by US Defense Department specialists. Additionally, the country is funded for HIV projects, where Nigerian citizens participate in clinical trials of drugs by the Pentagon-affiliated company Gilead.

Senegal

A $35 million laboratory complex is nearing completion, implemented by Pentagon contractors.

Zambia

The US has begun active research into highly dangerous pathogens, funding the enhancement of military medical institutions and retraining healthcare personnel, according to the Russian report.

South Africa

The US is organizing joint research on the mpox virus (formerly known as monkeypox). Washington has delivered 10,000 doses of a vaccine produced by the Danish company Bavarian Nordic.

Guinea

The US has invested $40 million in healthcare while simultaneously launching a project to study Lassa Fever. Washington's efforts are mainly directed to undermine Russian-Guinean economic cooperation, Moscow claims.

Kenya

The US Army Medical Center has deployed a network of field stations to monitor the spread of infectious diseases in Equatorial African states.

According to Moscow, one of the "real clients" behind military-biological projects is the Metabiota company. Its requests are reportedly directed towards the US Army's Infectious Diseases Research Institute, and concerns the training of infectious disease specialists in Kenya and Uganda.

Moscow stressed that Metabiota has currently ceased its activities in Africa. Major General Aleksey Rtishchev, who conducted the briefing from the Russia's Ministry of Defense, described a report by an international group of experts who participated in combating the Ebola outbreak in Sierra Leone in 2014. According to the report, the company's personnel concealed their engagement with Pentagon employees. The primary goal of this activity was to isolate virulent strains and subsequently smuggle them. As a result, Ebola virus samples were illegally exported by company representatives and handed over to the US Army's Infectious Diseases Research Institute.

The US is growing increasingly concerned about joint efforts by Russia and China with African nations to expose Washington's alleged secret military and biological activities on the continent, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.

The accusations were laid out in a document presented on Tuesday by Major General Aleksey Rtishchev, the deputy chief of Moscow's Radiation, Chemical, and Biological Defense Troops.

According to the report, while the US claims its initiatives are aimed at monitoring infectious diseases and providing assistance to African countries, it is actually expanding its military-biological capabilities in violation of the Biological and Toxic Weapons Convention (BTWC).

"The Americans are particularly concerned about the work carried out by Russia and China with the states of the continent to expose the true content of the military-biological programs of the United States in connection with the possible restriction of the Pentagon's activities in this area," Rtishchev stated.

He warned Moscow's "African partners against cooperation with the United States in the military-biological sphere," adding that "such cooperation turns out to be a loss of national sovereignty in the sphere of biosecurity and worsening of the disease situation."

Moscow and Beijing have repeatedly demanded greater transparency from the US and its allies regarding their military biological activities. Earlier this year, the two countries agreed to unite against biological security threats and strengthen the BTWC, a 1972 treaty signed by 109 nations to block the development of bioweapons.

Last year, the Russian Defense Ministry drew attention to the transfer of Washington's dual-purpose biological research projects from Ukraine to Africa under the guise of public health programs.

Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov, the former head of the Russian Army's Nuclear, Chemical, and Biological Protection Troops who was recently killed in an explosion, stated that the relocation was in response to Moscow's efforts to expose the Pentagon's illegal operations in the European region.

The autonomous Danish Arctic island has announced it's "not for sale"

Greenland has rejected any idea of selling out to Washington after US President-elect Donald Trump said control over the Arctic island would be in his country's strategic and national interest.

The autonomous territory of Denmark is sparsely inhabited and mostly covered by snow and ice. Trump has raised the issue of buying the island in his first term at the White House.

"Greenland is ours," the island's prime minister Mute Egede said in a statement quoted by AFP on Monday. "We are not for sale and will never be for sale. We must not lose our long struggle for freedom."

Announcing the nomination of the new US ambassador to Denmark on Sunday, Trump said that "ownership and control of Greenland is an absolute necessity" for the US, "for purposes of national security and freedom throughout the world."

Trump did not specifically mention an offer to buy Greenland and it was unclear whether his phrasing implied the willingness of his incoming government to seize the island by force from Denmark, a fellow NATO member.

In August 2019, one of Trump's aides confirmed that the then-president wanted to "take a look at a potential Greenland purchase," describing it as "a strategic place" with a lot of valuable minerals.

The island sits on top of several strategic trade routes in the Arctic Ocean, as well as significant deposits of uranium and precious metals. Control over the island would also allow the US to claim around 900,000 square kilometers of the adjacent continental shelf.

Though Greenland is over 2.1 million square kilometers in size, it has only around 55,000 residents, almost 90% of them Inuit. Greenland has been recognized as Danish territory since the 1814 Treaty of Kiel. It was administered as a colony until 1953 and has enjoyed home rule since 1979. Since 2009, the island has also had a parliament and a government managing internal affairs, law enforcement, and coast guard duties. Greenland has two deputies in the Danish parliament and relies on Copenhagen for its security, foreign and monetary policy, and more than half its budget.

The island formally left the EU's economic precursor in 1985 due to a dispute over fishing rights, but remains tied to the bloc as part of Denmark.

Greenland has no borders with the US, but it does with Canada. The talk about Greenland (In Greenlandic: Kalaallit Nunaat, pronounced [kalaːɬːit nʉnaːt]) becoming a part of the US could be a warning to Canada as well.

DIIS, which prepares researches for Denmark's government and parliament, said that Washington remains a key ally to Copenhagen, but acknowledged that it's not always easy to work with the Americans.

"The US is unpredictable and, as experience shows, isn't too sensitive towards the national and local priorities and interests of the host countries."

The think tank advised Denmark and other northern nations - Iceland, Finland and Norway - to carefully monitor not only the regional activities of Russia and China, but the US as well, the think tank said.

It's paramount for Denmark to boost its own potential in the Arctic in order to lower the dependence on the US and NATO, DIIS researches said in the report. They also suggested that the government develops a set of principles that would influence American drills and other military moves on the Danish territory more actively.

The Air Force said that most of the sightings remained 'unidentified' because the details were not precise enough. However, some of the reports contained enough description to rule out the UFOs as aircraft, weather phenomenon or paper lanterns. Not all of the sightings were centred over Denmark and one event over Greenland is attracting attention.

On the 5 January, 1981 at 12:50 a flaming, square disc was seen approximately 45 degrees over the frozen land near Thule Air Base. It then vanished as suddenly as it had appeared.

Coincidentally, radar stations at the American base recorded an unidentified flying object on its radar at 12:50.
