Report: Trump may pull US out of WHO on first day

The transition team of US President-elect Donald Trump hopes to pull the country out of the World Health Organization (WHO) the first day of the new administration, thus cutting one of the agency's major cash flows, the Financial Times (FT) has reported, citing health experts.

Members of Trump's team told the experts that they intend to announce a withdrawal from the global health body on inauguration day, January 20, the FT wrote on Sunday. Some in the team reportedly want the US to stay in the WHO but push to reform it. However, another group, which hopes to cut ties, is reportedly winning the argument.

The transition team wants Trump to withdraw from the WHO on the first day because of the "symbolism" of reversing Joe Biden's own inauguration-day move, FT wrote, citing Ashish Jha, former White House Covid response coordinator to the US President.

Comment: Unlike mainstream media, true journalists (credentialed or not) will be forthright when they get their reporting wrong. Amerikanets is just such a journalist. Herein he offers an analysis of his errors. It's refreshing.

Here is the original article by Amerikanets for comparison: Yuzhmash and Oreshnik Demystified

My previous analysis was completely wrong
Before I start, I'd like to thank the following people for giving me feedback which allowed this article to be made so quickly. These people were right, and I was wrong. Simo, magnetro1, Hazarescu, Artem on LostArmour. drakhl on Twitter, 3_bm15 on Twitter, Gio52452 on Twitter, MMetarch on Twitter. Also thanks to Kinez, who has been invaluable in helping me write many articles.
After posting the Pleiades images yesterday, multiple people reached out to me to send me evidence that some of the damage in those images predated the Oreshnik strike. I immediately placed an additional order for an earlier pass (October 22nd) that SkyWatch had available.

In the interest of dispelling the invalid analysis I put out yesterday, I will summarize the results of the second, earlier satellite pass I ordered before covering it in-depth in the rest of this article.

All of the damage seen in the November 22nd pass happened prior to the Oreshnik strike on the 21st, and was the result of attacks using conventional Russian standoff weapons. The November 22nd pass shows no new damage from Oreshnik.

How Washington and Ankara changed the regime in Damascus

Abou Mohammed al-Joulani

With surprising aplomb, the international press assures us that we are not witnessing a military change of regime in Syria, but a revolution overthrowing the Syrian Arab Republic. The presence of the Turkish army and US special forces is hidden from us. We are bombarded with propaganda that has been denied several times about the crimes attributed to "Bashar". Cannibal throat-cutters are transformed into respectable revolutionaries. Once again, the international press is consciously lying to us.

In 11 days, the Syrian Arab Republic, which had valiantly resisted attacks by jihadists supported by the largest coalition in history since 2011, was overthrown. So what happened?

First of all, since October 15, 2017, the United States has organized a siege of Syria, prohibiting all trade with it and prohibiting the United Nations from participating in its reconstruction [1]. This strategy was extended, in 2020, to Lebanon with the Caesar Act [2].

We, members of the European Union, have all participated in this crime.

Ukraine a 'gold mine' for Western arms makers - Moscow

Nebenzia

Russian UN envoy Vassily Nebenzia says Western arms supplies to Kiev benefit defense firms and just fuel the conflict further.

Ukraine has become a lucrative opportunity for Western arms manufacturers, who profit from weapons supplies that prolong the conflict, Russia's UN Ambassador Vassily Nebenzia has claimed. Speaking at a United Nations Security Council briefing on Friday, Nebenzia accused NATO member states of exploiting the conflict in Ukraine to enrich their defense industries.

The Russian diplomat alleged that Western countries are prioritizing economic gains over peace:
"It is well known that Ukraine has become a genuine gold mine for the military-industrial complex of the [US and UK] and their allies. But it is American companies that are profiting the most from the conflict. According to the latest data, half of total arms sales in 2023 were processed by 41 US corporations out of the top 100. They received $317 billion, or 50% of global arms-sales revenues.

"It would be naive to expect that these unscrupulous traders, who have tasted the flavor of lucre, will give up riding this gravy train for the sake of those miserable Ukrainians."
The Russian UN representative cited a recent report from the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI), noting that the combined revenues of the world's 100 largest weapons manufacturers in 2023 reached $632 billion.

Comment: Feeding greed requires an unending supply. Prolonging the conflict assures the payoff.

The successful development of the Oreshnik medium-range hypersonic missile is a landmark achievement both for Russia and the space industry as a whole, President Vladimir Putin has said, adding that he personally ordered its deployment under real conditions.

In an interview with journalist Pavel Zarubin on Sunday, Russian President Vladimir Putin described the first use of the Oreshnik missile against a Ukrainian military industrial facility as "not the highlight of the year," but rather "a historic milestone for the rocket and space industry."

"Nothing like this has ever happened before. This is the first of its kind when it comes to this type of weapon," he stressed.

Pentagon admits massive surge of US troops in Syria

Washington insists it was a coincidence that reinforcements were sent before the collapse of President Bashar Assad's government

The US has revealed that it has more than doubled its military presence in Syria, with a Pentagon spokesman saying that he "just recently learned" there were in fact roughly 2,000 American forces deployed in the country, rather than 900 troops as previously reported.

For years, the Pentagon had maintained that "about 900" US troops were stationed in the country, and officials continued to repeat this figure even after the overthrow of Syrian President Bashar Assad on December 8.

EU suffers by suppressing national identities - Putin

Attempts to eradicate differences are undermining economic prosperity in the bloc, the Russian leader has stated.

People in the European Union are being negatively affected by the marginalization of their national identities, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Thursday, arguing that a lack of national sovereignty affects all aspects of life in a state.

Speaking during his year-end marathon Q&A session, Putin cited economic stagnation in Germany, claiming Russia's economy is stable in comparison. One of the event's co-hosts brought up a story that Putin told recently about a visit to Germany and how all songs performed at an event he was attending were in English.

Putin said it was not completely true, since he brought a Russian band with him to be part of the entertainment at the birthday of former Chancellor Gerhard Schroeder. The visiting singers learned a native song on their way to Hanover as a gesture of respect to the host, he said.
"Sovereignty is a very important thing. It has to be on the inside, in the heart. I believe that the German people had this feeling of belonging to a homeland and sovereignty eradicated in them during the post-war period.

"Who are the Europeans? They are all proud to be European. But they are first of all French, Germans, Italians, Spaniards, and Europeans secondly."

Comment: The wise man's assessment falls on deaf ears. The wisdom is clear, the reception compromised.

The US-Israeli monster is ripping Syria to pieces. The US' unprincipled policy of force in Syria

US troops are remaining in Syria, as they have an 'important mission' there, stated US Deputy National Security Advisor Jon Finer in an interview at the Reuters NEXT conference in New York. He did not, though, specify the nature of this important mission.

In the Kurdish region, in the north of the country, there are about 10 US bases that control almost all of the sizeable oil production there. The black gold is then delivered by oil trucks to Türkiye, where it is quickly sold at discounted prices. The same oil supplies the needs of US bases in the north and 2 more in the south of Syria, near the city of al-Tanf. The money gathered from oil - or rather stolen from the Syrian people - is happily distributed among the 'democratic' US officers. Officially, the Pentagon states that there are only 900 military personnel in Syria, but this is hard to believe, as this would mean that only 75 military personnel service one base. Experts estimate the number of US military personnel to be more than three times as large and their number is constantly growing, taking into account the situation.

All of these terrorist groups and the United States are two sides of the same coin.

The murder of General Kirillov won't get the over-reaction Ukraine and, probably, its Western backers hoped for

Kirillov
© Sergey Mamontov/SputnikLieutenant-General Igor Kirillov
On 17 December, in the early morning, one of Russia's most important and well-known generals was assassinated in front of his home in Moscow. Lieutenant-General Igor Kirillov was the head of Russia's Radiological, Chemical and Biological Protection forces. (His brief was not, as some mainstream Western media have misleadingly claimed, leading troops focused on the use of such weapons but on defenses against them.) The assassination was carried out with a bomb attached to a parked electric scooter and detonated remotely. The explosion also killed Kirillov's adjutant, Lieutenant Ilya Polikarpov, and injured their driver.

A suspect was arrested quickly. According to Russia's Investigative Committee, which is in charge of the case, he is a young man from Uzbekistan who has admitted that he acted on behalf of Ukraine and for money. Meanwhile, the Ukrainian Military Intelligence Service has openly claimed responsibility, even if only after some disinformation-game hiccups in Kiev, about which more below.

The one aspect of this killing that is likely to attract most controversy is its assessment in a legal framework.

NATO complicit in the terrorist murder of Russia's General Igor Kirillov

The United States and its NATO partners are complicit in this and countless other acts of terrorism against Russia. But the murder of Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov was particularly flagrant and obscene, violating all rules of war. It demands a considered response, one that is different than before.

Lt. Gen. Kirillov was killed early on Tuesday morning as he walked out of his residential apartment block in Moscow along with a military aide, Major Ilya Polikarpov. The pair were defenseless, which raises huge questions about Russian military security protocols.

An explosive blast from a device secreted in a parked scooter near the doorway of the building appeared to kill both men instantly. Their bodies were later seen prone on the snow-covered sidewalk as crime investigators cordoned off the area. It was a grim scene, an icy indicator of how much at war the enemies of Russia are.

It is understood that Kirillov and his aide were monitored in real time by a camera hidden in a car at the scene by his assassins. The bomb was detonated remotely. It beggars belief that such a sophisticated ambush did not involve high-level NATO planners and equipment.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, speaking during his Direct Line presser on Thursday, condemned the murder as an act of terrorism. The deceased general has been posthumously awarded the Hero of Russia medal.

Since 2017, Kirillov served as the Chief of Russia's Radiological, Chemical and Biological Defense Forces. He was assigned to protect the Russian nation from weapons of mass destruction. Since Russia launched its special military operation in Ukraine to neutralize NATO-backed aggression, Kirillov's team of investigators uncovered an alleged network of bioweapons laboratories in Ukraine run by the Pentagon.
