Days after sunny, dry weather, record-breaking snowfall strikes British Columbia's South Coast

Snow
Coquihalla Summit
Just days after residents of B.C.'s South Coast were basking in sunny and dry weather, the first snowfall of the season hit the region.

Earlier in the week, families were taking kids and dogs to the park, strolling along the beach, biking on the seawall and even leaving the tops down on their convertibles.

But by Friday morning, Lower Mainland residents were waking up to snow on the ground.

Environment Canada says the first Arctic front of the season moved across B.C. on Thursday. It brought a blast of cold air, strong winds and the first snowfall of the season to Metro Vancouver and Greater Victoria.

Communities and highway passes in the Southwest Interior and Kootenays also received significant snowfall.

Cranbrook set a new record of 20 centimetres, breaking the old record of 15.7 centimetres set in 1984.

Comment: While it could be argued that every winter season sees a record of either early snowfall or amount of snow occurring at some specific locality, what so far has marked this year out across the Northern Hemisphere, is the number of such records (see here to search for a selection). To further emphasize the trend of early snowfall, reports started appearing in August originating from Romania, Switzerland, Russia and Labrador and Alberta in Canada.

The start of September brought snow to Georgia 3 months early, while Mount Washington in New Hampshire saw the white stuff on the first day of the month. By the middle of September early snowfall had left a 12 foot snow base on mountains in Alaska, while Mammoth Lakes in California had snow one month earlier than usual. Over several different mountain ranges in Europe it was a similar picture with the high ground in Austria receiving a foot of snow.

Record snows blanket western USA and Canada, its not only the depth of the snowfall, but the record early start for such depths. Additionally record early melt season end in the Arctic, rebounding sea ice growth and record Greenland ice growth especially on the western edge which used to be the IPCC favorite area to prove global warming. Its here, time is up, welcome to the grand solar minimum intensification.

Record snow in British Columbia, Canada - we don't need geoengineering to cool the planet

Record cold and snow gripping Western Canada + parts of the US. @ -20-30C and 5x old records being broken with the latest rounds of epic snowfall. Eastern Canada and snow belt areas of the eastern Great Lakes dumped on with early snows, hail and thunder storms squeezed between fronts across Ontario. Record cold descending to Florida, and they are now pushing heavy in the media to dim our skies to stop a warming planet. Well from what I see we don't need the program in N. America or Europe as cooling is occurring on its own with the help of the intensifying grand solar minimum.

Intense cold fronts known as the Arctic vortex descend through N. America and Europe the last days of October. The colliding warm and cold air masses have created some of the most beautiful cloud displays that nature offers on our planet. Additionally ferocious electrical storms across the east coast of Australia with record flooding where giant earthworms a meter / 3 feet long emerge from the ground.

Heavy snowfall has made life difficult for drivers in parts of Poland's southern Małopolska region.

Some 20 cm of snow fell in the mountain resort of Zakopane on Sunday, while the nearby Kasprowy Wierch peak, popular with tourists and skiers, now has 65 cm of snow.

Motorists in Zakopane who have not put winter tyres on their cars were encountering problems when driving uphill, Polish Radio's IAR news agency reported.

But traffic in the south of Małopolska province was flowing normally, officials said.

A level-two (the second lowest) avalanche alert has been announced in the southern Tatra mountains, with officials warning that steep slopes in particular could see snowslides.

Houston records coldest late October temperatures since 1910

houston flooding august 2017
Houston: From record flooding to record cold in just 2 months
It was 1910 the last time it was this cold at Bush Intercontinental Airport, and 1952 since it was this cold at Hobby Airport.

It was 36 degrees on Sunday morning at IAH, which shattered the previous record low temperature of 39 degrees. At HOU, it was 39 degrees which broke the previous record low of 42 degrees.

The good news is that the wind is not a factor. So, what you see in temperature is what you actually feel.

Expect a warmup to about 70 degrees by Sunday afternoon. That is about 9 degrees warmer than Saturday, but still about 8 degrees colder than the norm.

Plenty of sunshine is forecast for Sunday and Monday as the temperature warms by 10 degrees for Monday morning and another 10 degrees by Tuesday.
