Jordan Peterson might be today's most influential public intellectual, having achieved that fame in only two years, following a long career as an academic and a practicing clinical psychologist. The media have yet to figure this out, but their jeering attacks on him have unleashed a lion.

To date, Lisa Page's infamy has been driven mostly by the anti-Donald Trump text messages she exchanged with fellow FBI agent Peter Strzok as the two engaged in an affair while investigating the president for alleged election collusion with Russia.

Yet, when history judges the former FBI lawyer years from now, her most consequential pronouncement may not have been typed on her bureau-issued Samsung smartphone to her colleague and lover.

Rather, it might be eight simple words she uttered behind closed doors during a congressional interview a few weeks ago.

"It's a reflection of us still not knowing," Page told Rep. John Ratcliffe (R-Texas) when questioned about texts she and Strzok exchanged in May 2017 as Robert Mueller was being named a special prosecutor to take over the Russia investigation.

With that statement, Page acknowledged a momentous fact: After nine months of using some of the most awesome surveillance powers afforded to U.S. intelligence, the FBI still had not made a case connecting Trump or his campaign to Russia's election meddling.

Google is not an American company

Unless President Trump has finally adopted the royal first-person plural and owns a significant amount of Google stock, it is hard to know what the president meant when he complained on Thursday that the European Union has slapped a $5 billion fine on "one of our great companies."

Because whatever else it may be, Google is not an American company.

"Google" is, more than anything else, a logo and a marketing label; it is also a subsidiary of a holding company called XXVI, which is in turn a subsidiary of Alphabet Inc., a corporation that is also an umbrella for a number of other venture capital and research entities. For another two years, until the deadline imposed by an Irish court expires in 2020, Google or Alphabet or the Money Machine or whatever you want to call it will continue to steal from the rest of us by means of two accounting schemes known as the "Irish Double" and the "Dutch Sandwich."

Georgian ex-minister: Leaked documents indicate a US-funded facility may be a bioweapons lab

Shrouded in mystery, a US-funded medical facility in Georgia could be a cover for a bioweapons lab used for disturbing experiments that banned in the US, a Georgian ex-security minister has claimed. Tbilisi denies the accusations.

The center, which is officially called the R. Lugar Center for Public Health Research, is described as a "brand new facility" tasked with the "prevention of proliferation of technology, pathogens and expertise related to the development of biological weapons" by the National Center for Disease Control and Public Health (NCDC), an agency of Georgia's Health Ministry. The task is said to be part of a cooperation program between Georgia and the US.

However, Igor Giorgadze, a former state security minister-turned opposition figure, says he recently obtained a trove of leaked documents which might expose some dark secrets at the facility.

Italy blames France for Gaddafi's downfall and migrant crisis

Since the overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011, Libya has turned into a transit point, through which 650,000 refugees have already reached Italy from Africa. Sputnik political observer Sergei Gashkov takes a look at the situation in the conflict-ridden North African nation and its impact on Europe.

In Rome, the responsibility for the influx of migrants is laid on France, which persuaded NATO countries to get rid of Gaddafi. As a result, Libya is now torn apart by rival factions and an ongoing conflict between its two governments.

"It is clearly now undeniable that this country (Libya) finds itself in this situation because someone, in 2011, put their own interests ahead of those of the Libyan people and of Europe itself," Italian Defense Minister Elisabetta Trenta wrote on Facebook. "France, from this point of view, is partly to blame," she added. Italian parliamentary speaker Roberto Fico was even more explicit, pointing to "a serious problem that has come from France."

Italy's Deputy Prime Minister Matteo Salvini also chimed in, blaming former French President Nicolas Sarkozy for unleashing the war in Libya and the present government for adding fuel to the flames of the Libyan conflict.

Militants in Syria's Idlib have transported several canisters containing chlorine to the village of Bsanqul, apparently preparing to stage a false flag chemical attack, the Russian Defense Ministry has said.

The chlorine-filled canisters were delivered by the Al-Qaeda-affiliated militants of Tahrir al Sham, formerly known as Al-Nusra Front, a spokesman of the Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria, Lieutenant General Vladimir Savchenko, said in a statement Saturday. He added that the latest developments showed that the militants are preparing for a false flag attack that would be used to accuse the Syrian government of using chemical weapons against its people.

This is the latest warning from the Russian military on what it says is a chemical "provocation" in the making. On Wednesday, it said the White Helmets group has shot videos intended to be used in framing the Syrian government. Earlier, the MoD said toxic chemicals had been delivered Idlib and accused the White Helmets of carrying out the delivery.

The US and its allies have so far dismissed the Russian warnings, but said that the government in Damascus might instead be preparing chemical attacks against civilians. Moscow has suggested that the attack might be prepared with the support of Washington, which wants to justify further air strikes against Syria. Those planned strikes are said to be much larger in scale than those launched against the Syrian military by the US, the UK and France in April.

Two dozen migrant and anti-racist groups have penned a letter demanding that German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer change his stance on migration or leave office following his comments in the wake of protests in Chemnitz.

"An interior minister for everyone should not divide the society any further but instead clearly take a stand for the core values of our country," read an open letter titled "Not our interior minister." It was signed by more than 20 groups, including several associations of Turkish, Polish and Serbian communities, as well as pro-migration, pro-diversity and anti-fascist groups.

The document called on Seehofer to change his behavior and "finally take the right-wing threat seriously." It also said that the signatories are "extremely concerned" by the fact that far-right extremists are dominating the news and shouting: "Foreigners, get out!"

"We are concerned that out children cannot safely and freely move everywhere because of their appearance, name or beliefs," the signatories said, adding that the interior minister should make "sure that we do not need to be concerned about the wellbeing of our children."

The letter then claimed that Seehofer 'did nothing about that,' suggesting that he should alter his stance or "resign and leave office."

Syrian Army air defenses have intercepted several "Israeli missiles" over Damascus International Airport, state news agency SANA reported, citing a military source. "Our air defense systems thwarted an Israeli missile aggression," the source said. A SANA reporter meanwhile reported sounds of explosions in the vicinity of the airport.

An Israeli military spokeswoman declined to comment on the reported incident, when approached by Reuters, saying "we don't comment on foreign reports."

Texas State Board of Education votes to cut Hillary Clinton's name from student curriculum

Students in Texas will not be obliged to learn about Hillary Clinton in their history class, but will discuss the impact of Moses on the nation's founding documents, following a vote by the State Board of Education.

The move, which is so far preliminary, is an effort to streamline the curriculum, according to the Dallas Morning News. Teachers told the outlet that students have too many figures to learn about, turning their studies into a mere memory exercise. So, a volunteer group of teachers has been appointed by the board to grade the significance of various people. Clinton scored five on the 20-point scale.

The former Democratic Party candidate - the first woman to run for president - was not the only historic figure to be earmarked for erasure from the state curriculum in the traditionally Republican state.

Helen Keller, the first blind and deaf person to become a college graduate, may also be removed from the mandatory list of historic figures taught at Texas schools if the proposal is approved at a final vote in November after a designated period of public response expires.

The move has been touted by the board as a time-saving measure. The removal of Clinton is estimated to save teachers some 30 minutes, while Keller's exit from the curriculum will allow them to save another 40 minutes. The amendments to the statewide curriculum are bound to affect some 5.4 million public school students, if adopted.

Comment: Paying the price of irrelevance due to incompetence, criminality and evil nature, Clinton is deemed not worth 30 minutes of study.
