Macron is committing to nuclear energy while Britain dithers

The French are falling back in love with nuclear energy, and so is their president. In 2019, only 34 per cent of people polled expressed a positive view of France's nuclear programme, a figure that had increased to 51 per cent two years later. The most recent survey revealed it to be 60 per cent.

If Emmanuel Macron had been polled he would have given nuclear energy the thumbs up, a reversal of his position when he was first elected president in 2017. He came to office promising to reduce the share of nuclear power in the energy mix to 50 per cent by 2025.

The next year he delighted Germany by announcing that France would shut down 14 nuclear reactors by 2035, six of which would be closed by 2030.

Trump team petitions Meta to end ban and starts drafting return tweet: Report

trump tweets
Former President Donald Trump's campaign wrote a letter to Facebook's parent company Meta, petitioning company officials to reinstate his account on the social media platform two years after it was suspended.

"We believe that the ban on President Trump's account on Facebook has dramatically distorted and inhibited the public discourse," Trump's campaign wrote, according to the letter obtained by NBC News.

The letter didn't threaten a lawsuit against the tech company despite previous reports that Trump might be considering one. Rather, the letter emphasized the importance of free speech and requested a "meeting to discuss President Trump's prompt reinstatement to the platform."

House Republicans demand access to VISITOR LOGS from Biden's Delaware home to determine who may have had access to classified documents

A Secret Service spokesperson has since said visitor logs aren't even kept for Biden's personal home.
House Republicans have demanded access to visitor logs for Joe Biden's Delaware home to determine both who would have had access to classified documents found in the president's garage as well as how they got there.

The White House on Saturday said it had discovered five additional pages of classified documents at his home on Thursday, the same day a special counsel was appointed to review the matter.

The demands made by the newly empowered Republicans were spearheaded by Kentucky Representative James Comer, who said: 'We have a lot of questions.'

Ukraine: Is the Hammer About to Fall?

Putin
"Here's something you must understand. We were not given any opportunity to act differently." Vladimir Putin
The plan to engage Russia militarily is a tacit admission that the United States can no longer maintain its global dominance through economic or political means alone. After exhaustive analysis and debate, western elites have settled on a course of action aimed at dividing the world into warring blocs in order to prosecute a war on Russia and China. The ultimate strategic objective of the current policy, is to tighten the grip of western elites on the levers of global power and to prevent the dissolution of the "rules-based international order." But after 11 months of nonstop warfare in Ukraine, the US-backed western coalition finds itself in a worse position than when it began. Aside from the fact that the economic sanctions have severely impacted Washington's closest European allies, the West's control of Ukraine has plunged the economy into a protracted slump, destroyed much of the country's critical infrastructure and annihilated a sizable portion of the Ukrainian Army. More importantly, Ukrainian forces are now suffering unsustainable casualties on the battlefield which is laying the groundwork for the inevitable splintering of the state. Whatever the outcome of the conflict may be, one thing is certain: Ukraine will no longer exist as a viable, independent, contiguous state.

CIA chief warns Zelensky of assassination (...by the CIA)

William Burns
© REUTERS/POOL New
So CIA boss William Burns made a secret trip to Kiev in January last year to warn Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky that his life was in danger from assassination. The clandestine meeting occurred only weeks before Russia launched its military operation in Ukraine.

A new book that appears to have plenty of insider help from U.S. intelligence sources claims that Burns was sent on President Joe Biden's orders to deliver a "reality check" to Zelensky.

Western news media are gullibly spinning the claim that Burns warned Zelensky that the Russians were plotting to kill him. The impact of the top secret briefing was said to have had a "sobering effect" on the man in Kiev. In less polite terms, he crapped in his pants.

Some questions arise, however, which the Western media as usual do not ask. Why was it deemed necessary for Burns to make a long and secret flight to Kiev to tell Zelensky of a purported Russian assassination threat? Why couldn't the CIA director have briefed the Ukrainian leader about the danger in a phone call with a secure line? That Burns had to meet Zelensky in person suggests that the American spymaster wanted to convey another, unreported message, a message that only Zelensky would hear and one that could not be taped at any cost.

If the Russians wanted to kill Zelensky surely they would have done it by now during nearly 11 months of bloody conflict and given the evident capability of Russian missiles to hit anywhere in Ukraine?

Incongruously, the Ukrainian politician seems to be at ease in traveling around the country. Only last month he visited the frontline at Bakhmut where he obtained a battle flag from his troops that he then took a day later to Washington for a made-for-television presentation to Congress.

Are they the movements of a man who is really under threat of Russian assassination?

Democrats fear Biden's classified documents will be his 'Hillary emails moment'

JOe Biden
© GettyDemocrats are worried Joe Biden's 2024 reelection campaign could be in the hole after a third batch of documents were found in his possession.

Comment: But at higher levels, it's probably the whole point. Grandpa Earpiece has served his purpose and, along with his crack-addict son, is fast becoming a liability. The rest is just bloviating.

Democrats are worried the controversy surrounding the classified documents found in Joe Biden's home and office could damage a 2024 reelection bid, as Bill Clinton's former advisor said this is 'very, very big deal' for the president.

The president's attorneys announced on Saturday that five additional documents were found in the room adjacent to the garage - where the first set was found - at his Wilmington, Delaware, home. This is the third set found in Biden's possession and a total of 16 overall.

While Republican lawmakers celebrate it as another chink in Biden's armor, Democrats are said to be secretly worried this will ruin his 2024 campaign and morph into the Hillary Clinton's email scandal.

Her husband's former advisor David Gergen also think it could harm Biden's bid, telling Anderson Cooper: 'It's very, very big. Not legally but politically, it's a very, very big deal.

Comment: The difference between Trump and Biden, is that at no time does a vice president have the power to declassify documents, thus any classified material found in Biden's possession dating from his previous time in office constitute a felony. The sloppy handling of the documents only adds insult to injury.

Arestovych resigns from the post of advisor to Ukraine's presidential office

Oleksiy Arestovych, a freelance adviser to the Office of the President of Ukraine, said he had written a letter of resignation.

"I have written a letter of resignation. I want to show an example of civilized behavior: a fundamental mistake, so I resign," Arestovych wrote on his Facebook page.

Arestovych also wrote below the comments of users on the decision: "Last time I resigned, a month and a half later the war broke out. Let's see what happens this time."

There has been no reaction from the President's Office on this issue so far.

Comment: Some more astute commentators have the opinion that Arestovich has seen the writing on the wall, and will soon be getting out of Dodge. He does seem to be having a (tiny) crisis of conscience:

We couldn't ignore what was happening in Ukraine - Putin

Russia could not stand idly by when Kiev started eliminating people just for associating themselves with Russian culture, language and traditions, President Vladimir Putin said on Wednesday as he explained the reasoning behind Moscow's ongoing military operation in Ukraine.

Speaking at an event dedicated to the 80th anniversary of the breakthrough of the blockade of Leningrad, Putin noted that the Donetsk and Lugansk regions were "historical territories" of Russia and that he ultimately made the decision to launch the military operation in order to end the eight-year-long war in Donbass and to protect its people.

Arab League defied Washington on photo op - Lavrov

Sergei Lavrov

The US government pressured other nations to diplomatically isolate Russia, but many pushed back, sometimes directly defying instructions from Washington, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said.

Moscow's top diplomat shared a story from his visit to Egypt last July to speak before the Arab League. The US and its allies unsuccessfully attempted to prevent his appearance, or stage a concerted condemnation of Russia by member states over the conflict in Ukraine, Lavrov claimed, citing Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the secretary general of the organization.

When the lobbying effort failed, Western nations asked Arab delegates "to at least not to take pictures with Lavrov - and I am not joking," he said.

"For the record, after my speech, which took over an hour, each of the envoys asked me to pose for a picture," Lavrov concluded.

EU member Bulgaria 'secretly' supplied Kiev with arms & fuel - media

Bulgaria was running a secret arms and fuel supply scheme for Ukraine throughout the spring and summer of 2022, Germany's Die Welt daily reported on Wednesday, citing Ukrainian and former Bulgarian officials. The country is regarded as one of the few NATO members that, along with Hungary, has publicly opposed supplying Ukraine with weapons amid Kiev's ongoing conflict with Moscow.

According to Die Welt, the scheme was largely devised by just two men: the former Bulgarian prime minister, Kiril Petkov, and the ex-finance minister, Asen Vasilev. The co-founders of the 'We Continue the Change' political movement, both Petkov and Vasilev are Harvard University graduates.

Faced with strong opposition to arms deliveries to Ukraine both in the government coalition and among the public, Petkov and Vasilev opted for a covert delivery scheme while making no official announcements, Die Welt reported.
