The heavy rains, which lasted for about an hour and half, flooded homes of the residents and destroyed many properties.

Hundreds of residents in Bilpela and Kalariga, suburbs of Tamale have been left homeless and cut off from the rest of Tamale after torrential rains swept through the Northern Region capital.

Residents have attributed the latest floods to an abandoned road project, even though this is not the first time the communities have been flooded

Some residents told Joy News the flood could have been prevented had the abandoned road project - which has an accompanying drainage system - been completed.

Floods damage homes and schools following 7 days of rain in Honduras

Heavy rain has caused flooding in several departments of Honduras over the last few days, according to the country's civil defence agency, Copeco. Heavy rain has also affected several other countries in Central America, including Panama and Guatemala.

Damage to homes, schools and roads has been reported around the capital, Tegucigalpa, and in the surrounding department of Francisco Morazán. The wall of a supermarket collapsed as result of the heavy rain. No injuries were reported. The heavy rain has also caused several landslides, and caused damage to the storm water drainage system in La Cabaña areas of Tegucigalpa.

River levels are also high, in particular the San José, Guacerique and Sabacuante, according to Copeco.

The authorities have issued three flood warnings over the last 7 days. Yesterday Copeco issued a green (low) level weather warning for the next 48 hours for the nine departments of Copan, Ocotepeque, Lempira, Santa Barbara, Comayagua, La Paz, Francisco Morazan, Valle and Choluteca.

3000 houses, farmlands submerged as flood displaces scores in Benue, Nigeria

No fewer than 3000 houses and farmlands have submerged in Makurdi and other riverine communities in Benue State following the overflow of the River Benue.

The flood has displaced scores of persons in the agrarian communities, just as it has damaged property worth millions of naira, including cars and food items.

Water from the River Benue has run over the coast and has completely covered the houses saturated in the area.

Flash floods wreak havoc in Bodrum, Turkey

A massive amount of rain late on Tuesday caused flash floods in Turkey's tourist resort town of Bodrum, inundating the area with so much water that cars were floating in the streets.

The three-hour downpour was so intense that flash floods quickly enveloped many streets in Bodrum, an Aegean resort town in Muğla province, causing significant physical damage as the tourist season comes to a close.

The damage was mostly visible in Şakir and Dere streets, where at least 20 cars were dragged away by flash floods.

Access to streets was also blocked due to the floods.

Heavy downpour floods roads in Dover, UK

Chaos has erupted this morning as some of the roads in Dover, Deal and Sandwich have become flooded due to heavy rain.

The downpour has been constant since before 6am, leaving country roads such as the Alkham Valley a difficulty to drive through.

The Met Office issued a weather warning for rain at about 7am and the deluge is not expected to ease until 3pm.

Surface water has forced motorists to slow down, especially in busy parts such as Dover's London Road and in Walmer, Lord Warden Avenue took the brunt, as pictured here in Angela Barron's pictures.

Floods kill four in Nghe An, Vietnam

Floods caused by torrential rains over the past few days killed four people in the central province of Nghe An as of September 21, the provincial Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search-and-Rescue reported.

Flooding also wrecked nine houses, swamped nearly 2,500 hectares of rice and food crops, and damaged 14 irrigation works and 40 kilometres of roads, with property losses amounting to 191 billion VND (8.4 million USD).

Although the rain has eased, Nghe An is facing a high risk of landslides at mountains and river banks.

The committee, together with People's Committees of Nghe An city and towns and districts, is working around the clock to update information about flooding and promptly take countermeasures.

Floods submerge over 2,000 houses in Kaduna, Nigeria

At least 2,000 houses in some parts of Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria, have been submerged by flood as a result of a heavy rainfall.

The flood was said to have been caused by an unusual heavy downpour that lasted for over 48 hours.

The rainfall which started on Saturday night till Monday morning, caused massive floods at Abubakar Kigo road new extension, Barnawa, Ungwar-Rimi, Gonin-Gora, Karatudu, Kachia, Romi among others.

Pemberton area hardest hit, heavy rains more damaging than normal after a dry, hot summer

Heavy weekend rains, flooding and landslides have emergency responders attending to multiple locations in the Pemberton and Squamish areas.

Ryan Wainwright, Emergency Program Manager for the Squamish Lillooet Regional District, is asking those still affected by the storm to be patient.

"Understand that recovery takes a lot longer than the disaster itself," he said.

Twenty-four people have been stranded in the back country in the upper Squamish Valley, and another 20 are stuck near Pemberton due to the washout of the Lillooet Forest Service Road.

Severe flooding after a month of rain falls in a day in Gisborne, New Zealand

Parts of north-eastern New Zealand are experiencing severe flooding after one month of rain fell in one day.

During the last 24 hours, 97.2 mm of rain was recorded at Gisborne Aerodrome, according to WMO figures. Typical monthly averages for the whole of September stand at around 75 mm.

Flooding has been reported in Gisborne city, closing several roads in the area. Gisborne Civil Defence officials report that State Highway 2 north of Ormond is closed and anyone unable to return to their homes outside of Gisborne would need to find alternative accommodation.

Many rural areas of the East Coast have also seen severe flooding, in particular the small settlement of Te Karaka, where at one point during the day the Waipaoa River was rising at 0.8 metre an hour. Earlier today, civil defence authorities said that evacuation is being considered for Te Karaka residents as further rainfall of around 50 to 70 mm was expected during the evening.

Flash flood warnings in Hong Kong after more than 90mm of rain falls in just two hours

Flooding hit parts of the New Territories today after more than 90 millimeters of rain fell in just two hours in some places - almost double Hong Kong's total monthly rainfall for September.

Hong Kong Observatory issued an amber rainstorm warning at 6.15am and warned residents of the chance of flash flooding in some places.

Pat Heung, Kam Tin and Sheung Shui in the northern New Territories were particularly badly hit after about 90 millimetres of rain fell in just two hours.

In Yuen Long rainfall exceeded 40 millimeters, while many other parts of the New Territories recorded 20 millimeters.

Comment: All around the world flooding, in particular flash flooding following torrential rainfall, is becoming more common and intense with new records being broken.
