Dramatic footage shows major flood barrel through a Tyrol town
Heavy thunderstorms in Tyrol caused mudflow and floods causing dramatic scenes as streams overflowed their banks and barreled through towns and villages.

Terrifying online footage recorded the terror felt by a woman whose house was surrounded by the powerful flooding.

The woman can be heard reacting with horror as gallons of water shoot down the road in front of her eyes. The woman can be heard saying: "Oh my God."

Pettneu am Arlberg, near the border with Liechtenstein, and the fraction of Schnann were the most affected areas.



Reconnaissance flights were carried out on Thursday to asses the situation, with cleaning efforts kicking off in the early hours of the morning.

Deputy district Captain Sigmund Geiger told Kleine Zeitung that "fortunately nobody was seriously injured in this event."

The State of Tyrol said that nearly 180 firefighters were deployed to help local and tourists throughout the night, with Governor Gunther Platter saying: "The rapid and courageous deployment of the emergency services fills me with great respect.

"I would like to thank each and every one of them on behalf of the country."

Austria President Sebastian Kurz said in a Facebook post the central Government would help residents affected by the flooding with funds from the disaster fund.

The storms began in the afternoon of Friday releasing 60mm of rain, nearly a month's worth of water, according to the Central Institute of Meteorology and Geodynamics.

Trees were reportedly uprooted as strong gusts of winds battered the Western Austria region while basements were flooded when rivers overflowed their beds.

Near the river Rhine, a boat captain was forced to call the emergency services after force 8 winds tampered with his motorboat's engine, pushing it into a sandbank.
