El Paso, Texas: A million aggressive Africanized bees threaten an entire neighborhood

An aggressive colony of bees invaded a far east El Paso neighborhood.

An extractor went out to the home where the bees have been for several years to relocate them, but the aggressive bees wouldn't allow it.

Our sister-station, CBS4, reported about the homeowner's problem with these bees on Monday. Reporter Ashley Claster got a look at the beehive Monday in the Mission Estates community, and the bees were everywhere around her.

The bee specialist estimates there are almost 1 million Africanized bees living in the walls and the roof of the house. An older couple currently lives in the home and they said the beehive has been in their walls for three years. But now the bees are getting mean and the homeowners are worried about the neighbors, their pets and their children, who walk right past this house every day after school.

UK: Devon village rising 2cm a year, London suburb sinking, and scientists have no idea why

But the small parish of Willand in Devon is not enjoying an unexpected economic boom, but rather a strange geological upsurge.

Scientists have discovered the village is rising by 0.7 inches (2cm) a year, and are utterly baffled about the reason.

The curious elevation was spotted by researchers from the University of Nottingham's spin-off company Geomatic Ventures Limited (GML) who have been compiling satellite images between 2015 and 2017 to create the first country-wide map of land motion in Britain.

"We generally see this sort of uplift where there has been mining works and the pumps have been switched off, allowing the water to gradually seep back into the ground," said Dr Andy Sowter, Chief Technical Officer at GVL.

Comment: Mainstream scientists probably have no idea why because they're lost in a specialised bubble and are not paying attention to what's going on all over the planet: Also check out SOTT's monthly documentary: SOTT Earth Changes Summary - March 2018: Extreme Weather, Planetary Upheaval, Meteor Fireballs

Four Nor'easters hit the East coast of the US and Canada this March, bringing arctic conditions and meters of snow, leaving millions without power, disrupting traffic and destroying crops. Interestingly enough, the fourth Nor'easter arrived just hours after the Spring equinox. Storms in Texas and Alabama dumped enormous hailstones that caused widespread destruction over many counties. Meanwhile, California suffered one of its worst floods in decades, and record snowfall hit elsewhere in the US West.

On the other side of the Atlantic, the UK continued to suffer the ravages of the 'Beast from the East' that joined forces with Storm Emma, plummeting temperatures and breaking March snowfall records. The rest of Europe also had its share of unseasonable extreme cold, with rare snowfalls in Italy, Spain, Portugal and Romania. Meanwhile, frozen canals in Amsterdam stunned locals.

Saudi Arabia was battered once and again in March by (formerly rare) snowfall, hail, and flooding. Kenya suffered one of their its heaviest rainy seasons, with record flooding, landslides and a 3 km crack in the earth that disrupted traffic and baffled locals. Meanwhile Algeria was blanketed with a rare snowfall that damaged crops and disrupted transport.

Australia continued to suffer from heavy rains, hail and flooding during March, not least from tropical cyclone Marcus, which smashed into Darwin and left widespread destruction.

The animal kingdom is apparently also telling us that something is not quite right with the environment: March also saw another series of enraged animals, stranded whales and dolphins, and mass animal deaths. Recent news that our planet's ocean currents are undergoing dramatic change just adds to the rather frigid global outlook.

Is the Gulf Stream about to collapse and is the new ice age coming sooner than scientists think?

Big ben ice age
Two new studies published in the scientific journal Nature have brought a new threat to the world's attention: the shutdown of the Atlantic Ocean currents including the Gulf Stream.

Barely a day goes by without new research emerging warning humanity of its impending doom, but the collapse of the Gulf Stream is an event with particularly ominous connotations.

Scientists have previously linked disruptions to Atlantic currents with everything from heatwaves in Europe to rising sea levels in coastal US cities.

Comment: Famous last words above. Why is it that when 'experts' make "likely" statements about the linear progression of large scale environmental systems, they generally turn out to be completely wrong?

Rare video of aurora phenomenon "Steve" - formally discovered in 2017

steve april 10 2018
On April 10th, a G1-class geomagnetic storm was brewing over Canada as a stream of solar wind buffeted Earth's magnetic field. Matthew Wheeler of Robson Valley, British Columbia, stepped outside to see what was up--and STEVE appeared. "My dog barked at it for the entire hour it was visible," says Wheeler. "It was flowing like a river at astonishing speed."

STEVE may look like an aurora, but it is not. For one thing, it is soft purple, not green like typical auroras. And it has its own special form--tightly collimated into a narrow ribbon that can bisect the entire sky.

Researchers are only beginning to understand the phenomenon--aided by a chance encounter between STEVE and a European satellite a few years ago. In situ measurements revealed that STEVE is a hot (3000 degrees C) ribbon of ionized gas slicing through Earth's upper atmosphere some 300 km above the ground. It appears unpredictably during some, but not all, geomagnetic storms.

Comment: He may have noticed it in the 1980's but it has only officially been recognised since around 2017, and was a surprise to many veteran aurora guides - and interestingly, sightings of Steve are on the increase:

More snowfall could negatively impact farmers in Wisconsin

crops
The cold weather and snow could impact when local farmers start to harvest their crops.

SkyWarn 13 Chief Meteorologist Darren Maier says the snow probably won't be leaving anytime soon.

"Until this pattern breaks to where we can get temperatures consistently back to normal or above, that possibility of seeing additional snow I'd say is likely still in the forecast," says Maier.

Agriculture Agent, Mark Hagedorn, at UW-Extension in Eau Claire says this time of year, the snow is usually gone and farmers are getting ready to do field work.

Another dolphin has washed ashore in Algoa Bay, the second such stranding since last week.

The adult common dolphin was found dead in a tidal pool on the beach at Cape Recife Nature Reserve this morning.

This brings the total number of dead dolphins found on the Bay shores to 11 in less than two weeks.

Bayworld staff rushed out to the reserve where the adult female common dolphin was found.
