Small eruption occurs on uninhabited island south of Japan

A small eruption has been confirmed on an uninhabited island in the Pacific around 1,000 kilometers south of Tokyo, the weather agency said Thursday.

A Japan Coast Guard aircraft observed brown smoke coming out of a crater on Nishinoshima around 12:24 p.m., according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

The island emerged in an eruption in 2013 but volcanic activity has slowed since August last year, prompting the agency to lower the alert level it issued for areas near the crater.

Given that land surface temperatures have remained steady, the agency believes the latest eruption did not lead to the release of lava.

A leopard has been shot dead in India after 21 people were mauled to death over the last three years.

The wild cat was killed by forest officials in Haridwar's Rajaji National Park near Delhi.

"This is the 21st incident and this is happening since 2014," the director of Rajaji Sanatan Sonkar, Director, Rajaji Park told Indian newspaper Business Standard.

"We have either tranquillized or shifted five leopards from here.

"We had found human DNAs in two of them. We were neither able to capture this leopard in cage or by some other means. The last option with us was to shoot the leopard."

This comes after footage emerged showing the moment a leopard jumped out of a house in India as officials tried to catch it in March.

Growing, deforming, shaking: Iceland's largest volcano Öræfajökull showing clear signs of unrest for last 18 months

Öræfajökull volcano in southeastern Iceland, the largest active volcano and the highest peak in Iceland, is showing clear signs of unrest with an inflation phase for at least a year and a half. The last eruptive episode of this volcano started in August 1727 and ended in May 1728.

The inflation is ongoing and is reflected by increased seismicity and characteristic deformation pattern, Icelandic Department of Civil Protection said July 13, after a series of meeting with scientists from The Icelandic Meteorological Office, The University of Iceland and Iceland Geosurvey.

There are no signs of a decrease in the inflation rate or the seismicity and the state of unrest persists despite a decrease in geothermal activity since last December.

The source causing the inflation is most likely injection of new magma, scientists said. The volume change since the start of the unrest is of the order of magnitude of 10 million m3 (about 0.2 m3/sec) comparable to the intrusion activity in Eyjafjallajökull some years before the eruption in 2010.

Comment: The eruption in 2010 grounded flights throughout Europe for nearly a week.

Comment: The uptick in volcanic and seismic activity all around the world point to much greater changes occurring:

Adapt 2030 Ice Age Report: Earth's global dust storm expanding & atmospheric compression events in Japan

People wait to be rescued on the roof of a house in Kurashiki, Okayama prefecture.
With galactic cosmic rays now influencing our atmosphere, it seems cloud cells on Earth and well as global wind patterns have shifted and are becoming more unstable. As examples the dust storm from Africa, now encircles 3/4 of our planet at the equator, atmospheric compression events in Japan dumping half a years worth of rain in ten days leaving part of the country under water. Arizona dust storms, lines of water spouts off of Italy, something surely has changed.

Torrential rain causes flooding in Bhaktapur, Nepal - Death toll across the country reaches 53 (Update)

Flood Bhaktapur
Normal life has been thrown out of gear in Bhaktapur after many areas including Madhyapur Thimi have been inundated due to the flooding caused by swollen Hanumante River following torrential rains on Wednesday night.

Settlements including the temporary camp sheltering the earthquake victims at local Jagati and Barahisthan have been inundated. Similarly, settlements at Radhe Radhe and the Kamerotar land pooling project in Madhyapur Thimi have also become waterlogged. Local residents have not been able to come out of their houses as hundreds of houses have been inundated since midnight on Wednesday.

Comment: Update: The Sydney Morning Herald on July 13th reported:
Residents have had to be rushed to safety as water levels continue to surge near Kathmandu, with the death toll from landslides and floods brought on by monsoons this week rising to 53 across Nepal.

Three members of a family became the latest fatalities after they were buried alive on Thursday when a landslide struck their makeshift home in a village of Bhaktapur district, officials said.

"Hundreds of security personnel have been deployed in the sites," said chief district officer Narayan Prasad Bhatta.

"A large part of the district was inundated after floodwaters from the Hanumante River entered the settlements."

The Home Ministry earlier put the death toll at 50.

"In some areas, water levels had risen up to 1.2 metres from the ground. Hundreds of people have been stranded," Bhatta said adding that schools and businesses were shut.

The extreme weather has affected 36 of Nepal's 77 districts, with 20 people injured and nine missing.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology say further heavy rains were expected in next few days in the country's central, western and eastern regions.

At least 15 people died in floods and landslides in the country yesterday, officials said, pushing the death toll from the annual monsoon rains pounding the country closer to 200.

Landslides swept at least nine people to their deaths in Manipur in the remote and hilly northeast, said the state's Chief Minister Nongthombam Biren.

"I am deeply saddened to know that nine precious life were lost due to landslide at three places in Tamenglong headquarter," he wrote on Twitter.

Eight of the victims were children, including several from one family, local media reported.

Separately, six people were killed in floods and landslides in Uttarakhand, officials there said yesterday.

Four members of one family were swept away by a landslide and two others drowned in a river swollen by heavy rain, state emergency department official Piyush Kumar said.

Willow Bunch Golf Club's groundskeeper thought it might be time to aerate the green, but nature did it for them.

Hail rained down on Willow Bunch and the golf club late Monday afternoon, as big as baseballs in some areas. Willow Bunch is about 115 kilometres south of Moose Jaw.

The warnings from Environment Canada began around 4:30 p.m. CST.

"The sky got really dark out and it was incredibly hot and humid," said Sharleine Eger, a volunteer at the Willow Bunch Golf Club.

Sinkhole hole opens under bus full of school children in Swineshead, UK

sinkhole Swineshead
The road began to collapse around the bus in Swineshead
A bus carrying schoolchildren began to sink in to the ground as a huge hole opened up and road underneath it.

The Brylaine bus was transporting children home from Boston Grammar School and the town's High School at around 4.30pm on Wednesday, July 11.

As the bus pulled in to drop a student off in High Green Road, Swineshead, its back end began to sink as the road began to collapse.

Brylaine operations director Malcolm Wheatley said the only thing stopping the bus from falling further into the deep 6ft hole was the vehicle's frame.

Comment: Sinkholes are often blamed on excess rainfall, broken pipes, local mining tunnels or recent roadworks and yes, according to the article this road has been repaired multiple times, but all that tells us is that the ground underneath it is highly unstable. Also, the UK has seen over 50 days without rain and which has led to unprecedented wildfires. So what's causing this massive increase in sinkholes around the world?
