Melting down our history, one statue at a time

In their ongoing efforts to "transform" America, progressive activists have work to obliterate our history and traditional American culture. They are succeeding in many ways: One is the elimination of Civil War monuments in Southern states.

The removal of Confederate statues is now standard operating procedure. The statue of Gen. Robert E. Lee in Charlottesville, Virginia is a case in point. Once the center of protests and counterprotests that turned deadly, the statue is no more. It has been quietly melted down into ingots at a foundry, the location of which was not disclosed. The owner of the foundry mentioned how proud he was to do it: He said, "...when you are approached with such an honor, especially to destroy hate, you have to do it..." His sentiments were echoed by the activists who were invited to witness it.

Progressives have a tendency to be "Presentists"; that is, they judge people of the past by today's standards. Viewed in this manner, the leaders of the Confederate States of America (and many Founding Fathers) can only be seen as pure evil. Presentists should realize that we have little choice but to be products of our time. Further, they should know that there are lessons to be learned from the past. Obliterating symbols of earlier eras, even repugnant ones, may not be the wisest course of action.

Comment: Melt the hate, not the statue!

Anti-lockdown goes mainstream

citystreet

It's a shift worth marking. New York Magazine is featuring an article called "COVID Lockdowns Were a Giant Experiment. It Was a Failure." The authors are two excellent journalists, Joe Nocera and Bethany McLean, who have also written a new book called The Big Fail, which I have not read but intend to. The ascent of the book and thesis is hugely important, if only to further blunt the impact of Michael Lewis's The Premonition, which came out in 2021 with the purpose of valorizing the absolute worst of the lockdowners.

The worry at the time was that Lewis's book, like The Big Short, would become a major movie that would codify lockdowns as the right way to deal with infectious disease. That does not seem to be happening, and the cleverly titled book by Nocera and McLean seems to assure that this will never happen. Thank goodness. This is progress. Be grateful when we see it. It is also a tremendous credit to all those who have been pushing the Nocera/McLean thesis since the spring of 2020.

Lockdowns were always an impossible means of pandemic management. We knew that from a century ago. It was not even controversial. The orthodoxy in public health survived even up to a few weeks before the lockdowns began.

Out of nowhere, settled wisdom was completely upended. Suddenly, as if straight from Orwell, lockdowns became "common sense mitigation measures." Meanwhile this country and most other countries around the world were being utterly tortured by a crazed bureaucracy determined to master the microbial kingdom by bullying people and wrecking their businesses, schools, churches, and lives.

If nothing else, this era proves for this generation the astonishing capacity of the human mind to undertake utterly insane policy experiments on a grand scale without the slightest evidence that they could ever succeed, even while they trample on all established norms of rights and liberties.

North Korea is supplying munitions to Russia for use in its war against Ukraine in return for satellite technology, South Korea has said.

Pyongyang has supplied Moscow with more than one million artillery shells since early August, Seoul's National Intelligence Service (NIS) reported on Wednesday. In return, Russia is assumed to be providing technology and know-how to North Korea, which is making a third effort to launch a satellite following two failures.

Comment: It's likely that Russia is working with North Korea on a lot more than just that: American military build-up fueling tensions in Asia, Russia-N Korea relations have reached 'strategic level' - Lavrov

A Conservative MP has been sacked from his government job after breaking ranks to publicly urge Rishi Sunak to back a permanent ceasefire in Gaza.

Paul Bristow was dismissed as a ministerial aide at the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology on Monday after writing to the prime minister to call for an end to hostilities between Israel and Hamas to save lives.

Last week Sunak urged a pause in fighting in Gaza to allow more humanitarian aid to safely reach those without food, water or medicine but has stopped short of pushing for a full ceasefire.

The Houthi government in Sanaa said on Tuesday that it has launched drones and missiles against Israel in support of the Palestinian cause and will continue doing so. At least one missile flew over Saudi Arabia, putting the kingdom's air defenses on alert.

"Our Armed Forces launched a large batch of ballistic and cruise missiles and a large number of drones at various targets of the Israeli enemy in the occupied territories," said Brigadier General Yahya Saree, the spokesman for the Yemeni Armed Forces.

Tuesday's launch was "the third operation in support of our oppressed brethren in Palestine," Saree said, adding that the Houthi military "will continue to carry out more qualitative strikes with missiles and drones until the Israeli aggression stops."

Yemen undertook the campaign "out of a sense of religious, moral, humanitarian and national responsibility, and in response to the demands of our Yemeni people and the demands of free peoples, and to provide relief to our oppressed people in Gaza," according to the spokesman.

The SpaceX CEO reiterated in a podcast with Joe Rogan that the Hungarian billionaire "fundamentally hates humanity".

Prominent US Democratic Party donor George Soros is effectively trying to dismantle society, SpaceX owner Elon Musk claimed during a podcast with Joe Rogan on Tuesday. Musk slammed the liberal Hungarian billionaire for effectively "changing laws" by making sure they are not enforced.

"He's doing things that erode the fabric of civilization," Musk said, explaining that the current lawlessness plaguing American cities like San Francisco and Los Angeles is the result of Soros backing progressive District Attorneys who "refuse to prosecute crime." Musk noted that the billionaire was also "pushing these things in other countries too."

Gabriel Kanter-Webber, the rabbi of Brighton and Hove Progressive Synagogue, said in a blog explaining his decision to sign the letter that as far as he knew, "this is the first time that mainstream British Jewish figures have publicly used 'the A-word' in relation to Israel".

Other British rabbis who are listed in support of the document include Rabbi Kanter-Webber's predecessor, Rabbi Elli Tikvah Sarah: Leo Baeck College lecturer Rabbi Colin Eimer; Rabbi Rebecca Birk of Finchley Progressive Synagogue; and Rabbi Lev Taylor of South-West Essex Reform Synagogue.

US Air Force reports failed test of the Minuteman III ballistic missile due to 'anomaly'

Minuteman III ballistic missile
The United States has reported an 02.11.2023 The United States has experienced a failure in the testing of the intercontinental ballistic missile Minuteman III. This information comes from the official website of the U.S. Air Force Space Base at Vandenberg.

It is stated that during the test, the rocket was destroyed due to the detection of an anomaly after launch. Additionally, the U.S. Air Force command confirmed the safe destruction of the Minuteman III intercontinental ballistic missile without its warhead.

It is noted that an anomaly can be defined as "any unexpected event during testing." The exact cause of this anomaly will be determined through a thorough analysis, as stated in the report.

It is known that the maximum range of the Minuteman III missile is up to 13,000 kilometers. Similar tests have been conducted more than 300 times.

Comment: It's likely that this 'anomaly' is actually just due to incompetence, however, there's also the possibility of some kind of sabotage, as seems to be the case with other failed tests and missions by other countries.

At least one benefit borne of the corruption overwhelming the US, is how it's paralysing its own military and is leagues behind the emerging multipolar world in terms of combat readiness and weapons technologies:

Best of the Web: Panama Canal to further reduce traffic in coming months due to unprecedented drought, delays push cost of shipping, US LNG to record highs

Panama Canal
August 2023: The large vessels, thought to be carrying millions of dollars worth of goods, are locked in a traffic jam with some waiting for weeks to cross
The Panama Canal, one of the world's main maritime trade routes, will further reduce daily ship crossings in the coming months due to a severe drought, the authorities managing the canal said late on Monday, increasing shipping costs.

Booking slots will be cut to 25 per day starting Nov. 3 from an already reduced 31 per day, the Panama Canal Authority (ACP) said in a client advisory, and will be gradually reduced further over the next three months to 18 slots from Feb. 1.

In recent months, the ACP has imposed various passage restrictions to conserve scarce water, including cutting vessel draft and daily passage authorizations.

Comment: This issue has been known about since August, but, rather than find a solution, the West is instead spending its time and money fomenting another, albeit even more ominous, conflict in the Middle East

Lest we forget that Europe, for its part in sabotaging the Nord Stream pipeline, has already cut itself off from one major source of gas, making itself even more reliant on the already exhorbitant and unreliable US LNG; and which will likely become even more expensive with the Panama Canal operating a reduced service.

Moreover, if a major conflict breaks out in the Middle East, as is looking likely, disruption at the Suez Canal will mean yet another major trade route suffering restricted services. And, it's unlikely that Russia, nor the majority of Arab nations - and Qatar is major LNG supplier - will be eager to supply the West with gas if they are responsible for a serious outbreak of violence in the region.
