Tens of thousands of protesters demand 'end to tyranny' in Australian cities

Protesters thronged the streets of Australian cities on Saturday, demanding an end to what they called the "tyranny" and "oppression" of lockdowns, vaccine mandates, and the proposed expansion of the government's pandemic powers.

In Melbourne, Sky News reporter Sophie Elsworth described "tens of thousands of people streaming through the streets." The march came after a week of smaller protests aimed at Victoria Premier Dan Andrews' controversial pandemic bill, which if approved by the state's legislature would allow Andrews and Health Minister Martin Foley to declare an indefinite state of emergency and issue public health orders by decree - including "any order... that the minister believes is reasonably necessary to protect public health."

Should the bill pass, it would allow Andrews to target certain classes of people with these orders, categorizing them by age, occupation, or vaccination status. Fines for noncompliance would range from up to AU$21,800 for people and AU$109,000 for businesses.

Christian emigration from US to Russia shows Moscow now 'leader of the free world' - Church Patriarch

The head of the Russian Orthodox Church, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow, has argued that his country's independence from negative outside influence is what makes it truly free, in his eyes.

In an interview broadcast on the Rossiya-1 TV channel on Saturday, the religious leader was asked to comment on instances of Orthodox Christians having emigrated from the US to Russia.
"I can imagine the types of reaction to my words from different corners, but I can prove that Russia today is the true leader of the free world. We're free from the most powerful influences from abroad. We're developing in accordance with our own path and, by God's will, our path shall be successful. Russia can serve as an example for others. We have many problems, but these problems are solvable."

BBC reveals whether surge in deaths in mental health units was due to Covid

Almost twice as many people died during the first 12 months of the pandemic while receiving treatment in mental health wards in England compared to usual figures, BBC has reported.

Some 490 people died in England between March 2020 and March 2021 while detained under the Mental Health Act, the broadcaster reported on Saturday, citing data from the latest report by the Care Quality Commission (CQC).

According to BBC, the average annual death toll among psychiatric ward patients between 2012 and 2019 amounted to 273 people, which means the figure released by the CQC was almost twice as high. The care services regulator also said that only 166 of those deaths were caused by Covid-19, while another 324 patients died because of "non-Covid" reasons.

Sweden has had 'negative' excess mortality since the start of 2020

Sweden scene

We all remember what happened last year when Sweden's unflappable state epidemiologist Anders Tegnell announced there wouldn't be a lockdown. His "trust-based" approach was roundly denounced - not only in the media, but also by some 'experts'.

As Johan Anderberg notes, Sweden's pandemic strategy was variously described as "deadly folly" (Guardian), "a disaster" (Time magazine) and "the world's cautionary tale" (New York Times).

Since the end of the first wave, however, Sweden has been gradually creeping down the list of countries by official Covid death rate. As of 16th October, it was ranked 52nd - well below the European average.

Yet this actually understates how well Sweden has done. As I and others have consistently argued, number of Covid deaths per million is not the best measure of the pandemic's impact on mortality. Far better is age-adjusted excess mortality.

Best of the Web: HUGE protests erupt across Europe, Australia, against lockdowns & vaccine passports

austria protests 20 november
As cases rise again, a number of European governments have started to reimpose limits on activity, ranging from Austria's full lockdown to a partial lockdown in the Netherlands and restrictions on the unvaccinated in parts of Germany, the Czech Republic and Slovakia.
  • Austria is to reimpose full lockdown from Monday. Country will also mandate vaccines for everyone from February 1
  • Partial lockdown introduced in The Netherlands on November 13, with limits on home visitors, working from home encouraged, and public events scrapped
  • German ministers say they can't rule out full lockdown, with decision to be determined by hospitalisation rates
  • Restrictions imposed on the unvaccinated in Germany, Czech Republic and Slovakia
  • Unvaccinated banned from restaurants in Germany
  • Belgium ICU coordinator says there is an increasing risk country will have to resort to triage as cases mount
  • France's Emmanuel Macron says he thinks high levels of vaccines will be enough to avoid future lockdowns
  • Britain, with higher infection numbers than most European countries, is rolling out booster jabs

Comment: It's fairly clear by now that the shots don't work, so the question remains, why are governments hellbent on jabbing everyone? And check out SOTT radio's: NewsReal: Covid Cases Among the Vaxxed Explode... So Govts Lockdown the Unvaxxed!

A large fire has broken out in a building on boulevard des Capucines, near the Place de L'Opéra in central Paris, sending clouds of smoke rising into the air. People were told to avoid the area, which is popular with tourists, as fire crews tackled the blaze on Saturday.

"Firemen are intervening," the préfecture de Police said in a statement on Twitter.

It was not immediately clear what had caused the fire. There were no reports of any injuries.

Myocarditis after covid vaccine is so rare that UK HSA has warned children who have had covid to wait 3 months before getting vaccinated

Children who have had Covid should wait three months to be vaccinated, health chiefs have said, despite concerns that the change in advice could cause public confusion.

The UK Health Security Agency said the new guidance for children aged 12 to 15 had been taken as precautionary measure to reduce the risks of a rare type of heart inflammation.

Until now, parents have only been advised to wait a month for children who suffer a Covid infection to be vaccinated.

Comment: So let us get this straight:
  • "More than half of children of secondary school age are estimated to have been infected with Covid since the start of September." [So they are naturally immune]
  • "Natural immunity lasts three months" [arguably it lasts longer]
  • Kids should still get the vaccine because the risk of complications increases with age [Yes, when they are 80+ years old ?!]
They can pay lip service to being honest all they want, but if they really wanted to be honest they would expose this mass experiment for what it is.

Citizens fatigued and frustrated as China moves into second year of strict, zero-Covid strategy

Nearly two years into a pandemic that has seen China pursue some of the world's most stringent coronavirus measures, some grumbling has started to emerge over the strategy, particularly as other nations learn to live with the virus.

Comment: Citizens the world over are groaning under the weight of the "new normal". China is no exception.

The zero-Covid approach is unrelenting — with border closures, targeted lockdowns and mass testing triggered sometimes by just one case.

The cost and pain of the strategy have been felt especially acutely by the 210,000 residents of Ruili, a Chinese city on the border with Myanmar that has endured three major lockdowns and frequent mass testing — leaving many businesses on the brink of collapse.

Election results may be canceled in Berlin

Some voters in Germany's capital, Berlin, may have to re-cast their ballots after the country's federal election czar filed an official complaint over irregularities in a parliamentary vote held two months ago.

The election - which saw Berliners decide the makeup of the German parliament, the Bundestag, as well as select city representatives - was marred by irregularities at numerous polling stations, according to the official, Georg Thiel.

Among the most common problems were ballot shortages and long lines, with waiting times of up to two hours. In some cases, voters were also seen casting their ballots past a 6pm cutoff - the time when all polling stations were supposed to have closed. Thiel, who was tasked with overseeing elections at federal level, saw all of the above as reason enough to raise an objection in the German capital, local media reported on Friday.

The Independent, a leading UK newspaper, caused outrage when it claimed in a sub-headline that Kyle Rittenhouse "shot three black men." All three men shot by Rittenhouse were, in fact, white.

Shortly after a jury in Kenosha, Wisconsin found Rittenhouse not guilty of murder, attempted murder and reckless endangerment, The Independent updated its front-page live coverage of the trial with the sub-headline: Full story: Teenager who shot three black men with rifle found not guilty on all charges.
