Hungary responds to Zelensky's appeal for support

"Hungary is on Hungary's side," its prime minister, Viktor Orban, said in a statement on Saturday, in response to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's calls for Budapest to quit sitting on the fence in the conflict between Kiev and Moscow.

Orban said that, while his country could not "be indifferent" to the "Russo-Ukrainian war going on in our neighborhood," Hungary would look after its own interests first, and maintain a "Hungarian point of view." He went on to stress that Budapest "want[ed] to stay out of this war," but that this did not preclude it from helping "those in need."

The statement came in response to Zelensky having urged Orban to choose a side in the conflict. Speaking to EU leaders via video link on Friday, the Ukrainian president thanked the Baltic states, Poland, France, and Germany for their support, but noted that Hungary was still declining to take a stand. He called on Budapest to "decide for yourself who you are with." Addressing Orban directly, Zelensky asked him if he knew "what's going on in Mariupol," referring to the besieged southern port city, which has seen heavy fighting in recent days.

Zelensky reiterated his request that his country's application to join the EU be swiftly considered, and once again appealed to Hungary in particular not to block the bid.

Ukranian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been in talks with the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences to make a video appearance during Sunday's broadcast of the Academy Awards, The Post has learned.

Academy officials still are debating on whether Zelensky will indeed appear briefly on the show, sources said. It's also not clear if he would appear live or in a taped message. Sources said the debate centers on whether the Oscars should remain apolitical as the Russian invasion of Ukraine rages on.

The Academy declined to comment to The Post.

Anatoly Chubais jumps ship as purge of fifth columnists approaches

Anatoly Chubais

In recent years, many people have become accustomed to thinking about the term "deep state" as something that only applies to the United States. While it is certainly clear that a fifth column has become increasingly embedded across all levels of America's military, intelligence, bureaucratic, corporate, media and academic influence- very few westerners have any clear idea how this same structure has expressed itself in the nations of Eurasia.

Most relevant for the topic of this present report, we can take as an example the vast western-leaning hive of vipers, oligarchs and liberal technocrats which rose to power under the direction of the CIA during the dark years of shock therapy of the 1990s. Of course, since taking over from Yeltsin in 1999, President Vladimir Putin has gone far to purging many of those treacherous agencies that looted Russia during Perestroika, regaining control of vital institutions, bringing Russia's military, scientific and intelligence powers back into national hands.

Speaking of this battle on December 9, 2021 at the Council for Civil Society and Human Rights, Putin stated:
In the early 2000s, I've cleaned all of them out, but in mid-1990s, we had Central Intelligence Agency employees as advisors and even official employees of the government of the Russian Federation, as we learned later... There were American specialists sitting at our nuclear weapons complex sites, they went to work there, from morning to late night - they had a table and an American flag. They lived there and worked there. They did not need any fine instruments to interfere in our life, because they had control over everything already.
Putin went on to describe the new CIA-run strategy of asymmetrical warfare utilizing foreign NGOs and rabble-rousing proxies (see: Navalny) within the vast "civil society" apparatus embedded within his nation:
As soon as Russia started claiming its interests, started to raise its sovereignty, economy and armed forces' capability, new instruments of influence on our internal political life became needed, including rather fine instruments via various organizations, funded from abroad.
Of course while these operations have lit many weaker nations on fire in earlier days, the color revolutionary techniques used by the CIA-funded NED, or Open Society Foundations have resulted in very limited successes in Russia where saner heads have cut off many of these operations of funding while illegalizing Soros' entire organization in 2015 declaring them to be "threats to state security". Although Russia was 25 years behind schedule on this matter, banning Soros put them into the special club of nations that got their acts together led by China who had the wits to ban Soros in 1989, illegalizing his Open Society operations and arresting its agents (including CPC General Secretary and Soros agent extraordinaire Zhao Ziyang).

The West's sanctions on Moscow are destroying its own economic order while bringing Russians together, according to Dmitry Medvedev

Though relations between Russia and the West are at their worst since the Cold War, the unipolar world dominated by the US and its allies is now over, former Russian president and current head of the National Security Council Dmitry Medvedev told RT and RIA Novosti in an interview on Thursday. He added that Russians are uniting in the face of Western sanctions and threats, and will forever remember the current campaign of hate against everything Russian.

Russia is European but also transcends Europe

Q: Twelve years ago you gave an interview to The Wall Street Journal, a very reputable newspaper, and you said that you considered Russia a European country. Do you still feel that way?

A: Well, geographically we're the same country. Without a doubt, Russia has been and will continue to be a European country - just as it is an Asian country.

In terms of its geography and history, Russia is a European country. Also, we're European in terms of our cultural identity, because a good part of our population represents the European civilization, which is closely linked to the Christian civilization. But we also have a lot of people that belong to the Muslim faith, as well as to Russia's other major religions: Buddhism and Judaism.

FM Lavrov: West waging 'total, hybrid war' on Russia

Moscow's top diplomat said Western nations are seeking to 'strangle' and 'destroy' the Russian economy with sanctions

Russia's Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has accused the West of launching a "total, hybrid war" against his country, saying that a recent wave of sanctions aim to "exterminate" its economy.

The comments came during a meeting of the Gorchakov Public Diplomacy Fund in Moscow on Friday, where Lavrov said Western retaliation to Russia's attack on Ukraine last month amounted to a form of "war."

Comment: The war has been going on since the fall of the Soviet Union. It's just being brought out of the shadows now.

Mateusz Morawiecki claims Germany, Austria, and Hungary are acting as 'brakes' for new sanctions amid the Ukraine conflict

Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki named three European countries on Friday that oppose blocking trade relations with Russia, and have acted as "brakes" with regard to further sanctions in retaliation to its offensive in Ukraine.

"Poland strongly emphasized the need to limit the trade in hydrocarbons. Unfortunately, large countries, such as Germany, but also small ones, such as Austria and Hungary, are more restrained. They refrain from stopping trade with Russia here and now," the prime minister said ahead of NATO talks in Brussels, adding that he hopes to convince them to share Poland's point of view.

Putin hits back at attempts to 'cancel' Russia

vladimir putin

The moves to "erase" Russian culture in response to Ukraine conflict are akin to Nazi book burnings, the president said.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has compared efforts by the elites in the West to weaponize "cancel culture" against famous Russian composers and writers - in response to the country's military offensive in Ukraine - to Nazi book burnings.

"Today, they are trying to cancel the whole of our thousand-year-old country, our people," Putin said on Friday at a virtual meeting with recipients of presidential awards for achievements in fine arts and literature. The president blasted what he called "growing discrimination of everything connected to Russia" in some Western countries. He added that the process was "tolerated and sometimes encouraged by the ruling elites."

Comment: Anyone thinking they're making any difference at all by banning Russian culture or institutions is probably too stupid to be speaking in public and should have their permits revoked.

A volunteer brigade with self-proclaimed Nazis fighting alongside government troops against Russian-backed separatists is proving to be a mixed blessing to its cause.

Though the 900-member Azov Brigade adds needed manpower to repulse the rebels, members who say they are Nazis are sparking controversy, and complaints of abuses against civilians have turned some residents against them.

A drill sergeant who would identify himself only as Alex wore a patch depicting Thor's Hammer, an ancient Norse symbol appropriated by neo-Nazis, according to the Anti-Defamation League.

In an interview with USA TODAY, he admitted he is a Nazi and said with a laugh that no more than half his comrades are fellow Nazis. He said he supports strong leadership for Ukraine, like Germany during World War II, but opposes the Nazis' genocide against Jews. Minorities should be tolerated as long as they are peaceful and don't demand special privileges, he said, and the property of wealthy oligarchs should be taken away and nationalized.

North Korea likely tested a new type of intercontinental ballistic missile on Thursday, Japan's government said, prompting international outcry at a time when global attention is focused on Russia's war with Ukraine.

It is the first suspected launch of an ICBM by the nuclear-armed country since November 2017 and represents a major escalation of tensions over North Korea's weapons program.

The U.S., South Korea and Japan have all condemned the test.

Speaking to reporters, Japan's Deputy Defense Minister Makoto Oniki said Thursday's missile launch may be a new model of ICBM because it flew much further than the previous test-fire.

Comment: In response, South Korea launched missiles from the ground, sea and the air.
