In recent years, and especially after the start of the COVID pandemic in 2020, major health organizations across the world have changed several definitions of medical terms, which in turn have a significant impact on everyday life. In fact, were it not for the World Health Organization changing its definition of "pandemic" back in 2009, we wouldn't even be in this mess.

Like the swine flu before it, SARS-CoV-2 would not have qualified as a pandemic were it not for the WHO erasing a few key words from the definition. Pre-2009, the official definition of a pandemic was:
"... when a new influenza virus appears against which the human population has no immunity, resulting in several, simultaneous epidemics worldwide with enormous numbers of deaths and illness."
Then, in 2009, the WHO removed the severity and high mortality criteria ("enormous numbers of deaths and illness"), leaving the definition of a pandemic as "a worldwide epidemic of a disease."

To evaluate the risk/benefit of a vaccine for treating a virus, such as covid-19, we can compare the all-cause mortality rate of vaccinated against unvaccinated people on a periodic basis. If the mortality rate for those vaccinated is consistently lower than that for unvaccinated then we might conclude the vaccine must be beneficial.

An Argentinian woman has become the second-ever HIV-infected person whose immune system helped defeat the virus without requiring additional medical treatment. She was first diagnosed with the AIDS-causing infection in 2013.

Scientists have dubbed the 30-year-old mother the "Esperanza patient," after her hometown. The word 'esperanza' translates to 'hope' in English. Publishing their findings in the Annals of Internal Medicine journal on Monday, the researchers said the discovery boosts hope for a "sterilizing cure" for the estimated 38 million people with the life-long infection.

Comment: RT reported earlier on research being done with people who possess 'elite controller' immune systems:
Extraordinary breakthrough research has indicated that a small group of HIV-infected people, dubbed "elite controllers," have the power to rid themselves of the virus without any medical help.

Numerous previous studies, carried out over the course of several years, had found that a very small number of the 38 million people infected with the dreaded virus were able to suppress it without any treatment.

The remarkable new finding has found that an even smaller subset of "elite controllers" appear to be able to eliminate HIV from their bodies entirely without taking medicine at all.

The discovery is astonishing because HIV is a lifelong condition for which there is no medical cure. In the vast majority of cases, sufferers require daily antiretroviral therapy (ART) to control the virus and stop the development of acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS).

"What happens with these individuals, whom we call elite controllers, may shed light on a HIV-1 cure and also help us understand how a person with HIV might control virus and avoid HIV-associated comorbidities," explained veteran HIV researcher, Keith Hoots, who is the director of the Division of Blood Diseases and Resources at the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute.

In the new study, experts from Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard and Massachusetts Institute of Technology studied more than 1,500 elite controllers. Their research discovered that these people achieved virus elimination results which had previously only been seen following years of intensive medical treatment.

The authors say that elite controllers are the closest thing to a possible "natural cure" for the virus, which has claimed more than 33 million lives since the epidemic emerged in the early 1980s.

The Daily Sceptic has for some time been reporting on the apparent negative vaccine effectiveness visible in raw U.K. health data. Despite some age ranges now showing that the vaccinated are more than twice as likely to get Covid as the unvaccinated, this is routinely adjusted out, leading UKHSA to un-intuitively claim that the vaccines are still highly effective even against symptomatic disease. A recent post by new contributor Amaneunsis explains the Test Negative Case Control approach (TNCC) used by authorities and researchers to adjust the data, and demonstrates that while a theoretically powerful way to remove some possible confounders, it rests on an initially reasonable-sounding assumption that vaccines don't make your susceptibility to infection worse:
"A situation where this assumption may be violated is the presence of viral interference, where vaccinated individuals may be more likely to be infected by alternative pathogens."

Amanuensis then compares results between the two different statistical approaches in a Qatari study to explore whether violation of this assumption is a realistic possibility and concludes that the multi-variate logistic regression found in their appendix supports the idea that viral interference can start happening a few months after initial vaccination.

What other angles can we explore this idea through? One way is to read the literature on prior epidemics.

Last month pharmaceutical giant Merck has submitted their new drug Molnupiravir to the FDA for emergency approval 'because Covid'. Most people thought this would be an ivermectin knock-off that would get approved and get all the glory ivermectin should have been getting all along. But it's not that. It's worse. Much worse.

Far from being a simple anti-viral like its predecessors, Molnupiravir works by incorporating itself into the genetic material of viruses, and then causing a huge number of mutations as the virus replicates, effectively killing it. That's all well and good, but how do they keep the drug from doing the same thing to human cells?

The early news on the drug shows that they don't - at least not effectively. In some lab tests, the drug has also shown the ability to integrate into the genetic material of mammalian cells, causing mutations as those cells replicate. This means the drug could cause cancer and birth defects.

A document prepared for the FDA Advisory Committee meeting, in which members voted seventeen to zero in favour of giving emergency use authorization for the administration of the Pfizer Covid-19 injection to children aged 5 to 11, confirms that Pfizer have modified the formulation of their injection for children to include an ingredient that reduces the acidity of blood and is used to stabilise people who have suffered a heart attack.

The FDA Briefing Document titled 'EUA amendment request for Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for use in children 5 though 11 years of age' states the following on page 14 -
"Authorization is being requested for a modified formulation of the Pfizer‑BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine. Each dose of this formulation contains 10 μg of a nucleoside-modified messenger RNA (mRNA) encoding the viral spike (S) glycoprotein of SARS-CoV-2 that is formulated in lipid particles and supplied as a frozen suspension in multiple dose vials."

"To provide a vaccine with an improved stability profile, the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccine for use in children 5-11 years of age uses tromethamine (Tris) buffer instead of the phosphatebuffered saline (PBS) as used in the previous formulation and excludes sodium chloride and potassium chloride".

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has quietly acknowledged that far more people have natural immunity than was earlier reported. The CDC quietly acknowledged that a staggering 146.6 million people have been infected by the Sars-CoV-2 virus and have survived it.

The CDC updated its May figures in October after declining to update the numbers for five months.

The CDC estimates that 124 million of the 146.6 million infections resulted in "symptomatic illnesses," although it is unclear why only one in four infections sought out medical treatment. The CDC further estimated that there were 7.5 million hospitalizations, although 'hospitalizations' may include routine treatment that happened to turn up a positive Covid-19 test, greatly inflating the figures.

Most inflated of all are the 921,000 "estimated total deaths."

Health Canada adds autoimmune disorder warning to AstraZeneca, J&J COVID-19 vaccines

Health Canada is updating the labels for the AstraZeneca and Johnson & Johnson COVID-19 vaccines to add immune thrombocytopenia (ITP), an autoimmune condition, as a potential side effect.

In a statement on Tuesday, the agency said very rare cases of ITP have been reported internationally after receiving the Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) and Janssen (J&J) COVID-19 vaccines.

ITP is a disorder that can cause easy or excessive bruising and bleeding, which results from unusually low blood platelet levels.

The Moderna COVID-19 vaccine is being tested on infants across the country, even as medical experts question the wisdom of moving so fast on novel vaccine development in a population with such low risk from COVID.

Seventy-nine locations in 31 states are listed as participating in the so-called KidCOVE study, which started with children ages 6 to "less than 12," followed by ages 2 to less than 6, and finally 6 months to less than 2 years.

The infant trials have received sporadic media attention. CBS Miami and WCNC Charlotte ran features on local infant participants a month ago, followed by features last week for Colorado's KDVR and Oklahoma's Fox 23.

New attention came Monday when the University of Wisconsin medical school announced that "dozens" of children under age 6 were participating in its trial at American Family Children's Hospital.
