Brazilian Ministry of Health suffers cyberattack and COVID-19 vaccination data vanishes

Websites under Brazil's Ministry of Health (MoH) have suffered a major ransomware attack that resulted in the unavailability of COVID-19 vaccination data of millions of citizens.

Following that attack that took place at around 1 am today, all of MoH's websites, including ConecteSUS, which tracks the trajectory of citizens in the public healthcare system, became unavailable. This includes the COVID-19 digital vaccination certificate, which is available via the ConecteSUS app.

According to a message left by the Lapsus$ Group, which has claimed responsibility for the attack, some 50TB worth of data has been extracted from the MoH's systems and subsequently deleted. "Contact us if you want the data returned", the message said, alongside contact details for the authors of the attack.

Just before 7 am, the images with the message left by the hackers were removed, but the websites remained unavailable.

Brazil's Ministry of Health has suffered a second cyberattack in less than a week, which has compromised various internal systems, including the platform that holds COVID-19 vaccination data.

According to Queiroga, the department is working to recover the systems as soon as possible. However, he said the second attack means ConecteSUS, the platform that issues COVID-19 vaccine certificates, would not be back online today (14) as originally planned.

Queiroga noted the attack had been unsuccessful and that no data had been compromised, but this second event "caused turmoil" and "got in the way" of bringing systems back online. The minister did not provide an estimate of when the impacted systems would be reestablished.

The ministerial confirmation of the second cyberattack was preceded by a statement released by the Ministry of Health saying that Datasus, the department's IT function, carried out a preventive systems maintenance exercise on Monday, meaning systems would be temporarily unavailable.

The second attack meant civil servants had to be sent home on Monday since it was not possible to access the health ministry's core systems, such as the platforms that generate reports relating to the COVID-19 pandemic.

At this point, it's not shocking to hear that tech billionaires have pioneered the next dystopian surveillance product. Just last week, Tesla's Elon Musk announced that his microchips will be ready for human brain implantation in 2022, and in October, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg revealed his ploy to expand into the digital metaverse, where users can exist virtually in an interactive environment.

In case that wasn't enough, Amazon's Jeff Bezos' has announced his own nightmarish endeavour: a doorbell which can identify you by your scent, skin texture, fingerprints, eyes, voice, walk, and more.

While Amazon acquired the doorbell camera company Ring in 2018 - which originally functioned as a standard doorbell and security camera - it has recently registered 17 new patents for the service. Based on the patents, the service may soon be able to identify "suspicious" people by recognising numerous details about them using biometric-recognition softwares - which is mentioned in all but one of the filings.

Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon has reportedly rolled out a new 'restorative justice' initiative that will enable teenagers who commit such crimes as sexual battery and arson to escape prosecution.

A leaked memo obtained by Fox News reporter Bill Melugin shows that Gascon is expanding a diversion program for juvenile offenders to include more serious crimes. The prosecutor, who was elected last year after getting more than $2.5 million in campaign funding from billionaire George Soros, cited such "qualifying felonies" as burglary, assault and robbery.

Comment: Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascon is fulfilling his obligations to his patron George Soros, who apparently is bent on creating societal chaos in pursuit of his dreams of transforming it into an 'Open Society'.

In an unannounced executive order regarding enhanced monitoring of COVID-19 metrics, Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey banned public employers from requiring a COVID-19 vaccination as a condition of employment.

The order, signed Wednesday, primarily reactivates the state's "enhanced surveillance advisory," which requires most hospitals to provide consistent updates on ventilators, ICU beds, inpatient beds, ED beds, number of patients pending transfer out of hospitalization, as well as more detailed COVID-19 patient data.

One line stands out:
"No person shall be required by this state, or any city, town or county, to obtain a COVID-19 vaccine but a health care institution licensed pursuant to A.R.S. Title 36, Chapter 4 may require the institution's employees to be vaccinated."
The governor's office was not available for comment on the addition Thursday afternoon.

Californians are ignoring Gov. Gavin Newsom's statewide mask mandate, which went into effect Wednesday for most indoor spaces, and is meant to prevent a winter surge of coronavirus cases associated with the new Omicron variant of coronavirus.

As Breitbart News reported earlier this week, Newsom exempted San Francisco — where he used to be mayor of the city — and the surrounding counties, because of the high vaccination rate in the region. But others are just ignoring the mandate.

The Sacramento Bee reported that no one can figure out who is responsible for enforcing the mask mandate.
When asked about the lack of enforcement mechanism for the mandate, which went into effect Wednesday, Gov. Gavin Newsom said he "has faith" in Californians to follow it, but didn't provide specifics on what would happen if they didn't.

"I have more faith than you do in the capacity of people to do the right thing. That's the response," Newsom told a reporter during a press conference in Los Angeles on Wednesday. "I think people are more capable once they're given the 'why' and the 'what' to apply themselves...and I think a lot of people will self-enforce and do the right thing."

Local government officials say the state hasn't given any guidance on enforcement, and some local authorities say they won't enforce the state's order at all.

Former Covington Catholic student Nicholas Sandmann said Friday that he has reached a settlement in his defamation lawsuit against NBCUniversal.

"At this time I would like to release that NBC and I have reached a settlement. The terms are confidential," tweeted Mr. Sandmann.

In May 2019, he sued NBCUniversal for $275 million, alleging that the media company "unleashed its vast corporate wealth, influence, and power against Nicholas to falsely attack him despite the fact that at the time, he was a 16-year-old high school student."

Parents of swimmers at the University of Pennsylvania are demanding the NCAA address the dominance of transgender swimmer Lia Thomas breaking records in women's competitions.

A group of parents of 10 swimmers argued Thomas has an unfair advantage over female swimmers, according to a letter sent to the NCAA last week obtained by the Daily Mail.

"At stake here is the integrity of women's sports. The precedent being set — one in which women do not have a protected and equitable space to compete," the letter said. "It is the responsibility of the NCAA to address the matter with an official statement."

Health ministers from the world's seven richest democracies agreed Thursday that the Omicron coronavirus variant that is surging across Europe and other parts of the world is the "biggest threat to global public health."

Working together and sharing information will be "crucial" in responding to the rapidly growing Omicron wave, G7 health ministers agreed in the final meeting of the U.K.'s G7 presidency.

The U.K. recorded more than 88,000 new coronavirus infections on Thursday, with Omicron cases driving the surge. The country has now registered more than 49,000 cases of Omicron total, while in Denmark, a country with a population of around 6 million and another Omicron hotspot, more than 9,000 Omicron cases have now been recorded.

Comment: They are lying to our faces. A former Biden COVID-19 adviser is saying a 'viral blizzard' about to hit the US; while Biden himself is predicting a 'winter of death' for unvaxxed. Yet from this article on CNN about 900 Covid cases at Cornell University:
"Virtually every case of the Omicron variant to date has been found in fully vaccinated students, a portion of whom had also received a booster shot," said Vice President for University Relations Joel Malina in a statement.
But don't let that stop you from getting on the infinite booster treadmill.
