Ecuador has declared a countrywide state of emergency for 60 days the morning after presidential candidate Fernando Villavicencio was gunned down at a campaign rally in the capital, Quito.

Video of the assassination is widely circulating, showing an assassin firing multiple shots at close range while Villavicencio entered his vehicle on a crowded streets. He had just spoken at a high school before an audience of young supporters.

A member of Villavicencio's campaign team said of the candidate:
"When he stepped outside the door, he was met with gunfire. There was nothing to be done, because they were shots to the head."
Villavicencio, a legislator in the National Assembly, has been tireless in speaking out against organized crime, drug trafficking, and government corruption. Among his talking points on the campaign trail has been that Ecuador is a "narco state" being led by the "political mafia".

This is why in the aftermath of his killing, it's being widely blamed on those very criminal elements. He was by far the most vocal candidate against the drug traffickers and corrupt dealings with the state. He was also a former investigative journalist, having years ago exposed government corruption and bribery deals related to the oil industry.

GOP says several FBI offices contributed to anti-Catholic memo, refuting Wray's testimony

GOP lawmakers say the subpoenaed document details how FBI Portland and Los Angeles field offices contributed to the Richmond anti-Catholic memo

House Republicans say FBI documents they've obtained prove that several field offices contributed to a memo that targeted traditionalist Catholics as "potential terrorists," conflicting with recent sworn testimony from FBI Director Christopher Wray.

Republican leadership on the House Judiciary Committee revealed in a letter sent to Wray on Wednesday that said the document they subpoenaed from the agency details how "both FBI Portland and FBI Los Angeles field offices were involved in or contributed to the creation of FBI's assessment of traditional Catholics as potential domestic terrorists."

"This new information suggests that the FBI's use of its law enforcement capabilities to intrude on American's First Amendment rights is more widespread than initially suspected," Chairman Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, and co-chair Rep. Mike Johnson, R-La., wrote in the letter.

The information also contradicts Wray's congressional testimony that the FBI's anti-Catholic initiative was "a single product by a single field office."

Comment: Once again the FBI has been shown to be promoting the Leftist agenda.

Biden to ask congress for an additional $13 billion for Ukraine - total aid given would soar to $113 billion

President Joe Biden on Thursday will ask Congress to provide more than $13 billion in emergency aid to Ukraine, another massive infusion of cash as the Russian invasion wears on and Ukraine pushes a counteroffensive against the Kremlin's deeply entrenched forces, a person familiar with the matter told The Associated Press.

The last such request from the White House, made in November, was met and then some — Congress approved more than what the Democratic president had requested.

Comment: Back in September 2022, Biden asked for one tranche of $47 billion in funds for Ukraine.

But there's a different dynamic this time. A political divide on the issue has grown, with the Republican-led House facing enormous pressure to demonstrate support for the party's leader, Donald Trump, who has been very skeptical of the war. And American support for the effort has been slowly softening.

The White House also is expected to ask for $12 billion to replenish federal disaster funds, according to the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly about a request that had not yet been made public and spoke to The Associated Press on the condition of anonymity.

Two unmanned aircraft heading toward the Russian capital have been shot down by air defenses.

Two drones were shot down overnight while heading toward the city of Moscow, Mayor Sergey Sobyanin and the Russian Defense Ministry announced on Wednesday morning. According to the officials, the attempted terrorist attack did not result in any casualties or destruction.
"At night, an attempt by the Kiev regime to carry out a terrorist attack by drones was thwarted over Moscow region," the ministry said in a statement.
Both UAVs were destroyed by air defenses. According to Sobyanin, one of them was shot down to the south of the capital, while another was destroyed over the M1 highway, which runs from Moscow to the border with Belarus.

The officials did not provide any further details on the incident, and the type of drone used remains unclear.

At least one person has died and dozens have been injured as a result of the blast, local authorities reported

A powerful explosion has rocked a factory in the town of Sergiyev Posad outside of Moscow, with evacuation efforts underway, local authorities have said.

The incident took place on the territory of the Zagorsk Optical-Mechanical Plant, which according to its website, designs and produces optical and electronic equipment.

Prosecutors have confirmed preliminary data suggesting that the explosion occurred in a pyrotechnics warehouse.

Andrey Vorobyev, Moscow Region's governor, said citing emergency services that 31 people were injured in the blast. Later, he noted that 43 people had been taken to a local hospital, with six of them, who suffered burns and head injuries, being treated in intensive care.

He stated that a total of 52 people sought medical assistance after the blast, adding that five people may still be trapped under the rubble. Later, the local administration confirmed that a female factory employee succumbed to her injuries in a local hospital.

Mass evacuation efforts have been announced from all facilities on factory premises.

Numerous clips shared by local media show a large plume of smoke rising from the factory, towering over nearby buildings.

A source in the emergency services told RIA Novosti that the explosion took place due to a violation of technical procedures

Meanwhile, the Mash Telegram channel shared footage from a nearby security camera that captured the moment of the explosion, showing a fireball and a plume of smoke rising in the distance. It claimed, citing eyewitnesses, that the blast shattered windows in at least ten nearby buildings, with ceilings collapsing in offices close by.

The BAZA Telegram channel said that the emergency services had arrived on the scene and that traffic near the factory had been closed.
WATCH Ukrainian drone attack on Moscow

Footage obtained by RT shows the moment a disabled aircraft exploded in the financial district on July 30

A blast caused by a downed Ukrainian drone in Moscow's financial district in late July sent people scrambling for safety and shattered the windows in one of the nearby skyscrapers, footage obtained by RT shows.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Moscow came under Ukrainian drone attack on July 30, with a total of three aircraft involved. It said that while one drone was destroyed by air defenses outside the capital, two others were disabled, veered off course, and crashed "on the territory of a non-residential complex in Moscow City [business district]," which is home to numerous companies and government organizations.

Security footage from cameras inside and near the Federation tower shows the moment one of the drones exploded. The 21-second clip from outside the building shows a powerful explosion smashing windows, with a man standing at the entrance scrambling to huddle against the walls.

Another 11-second video, filmed on the ground floor inside the tower, shows a security post, and a guard talking to a woman. After a powerful explosion, both can be seen running deeper into the building.

Moscow Mayor Sergey Sobyanin said the attack caused minor damage to the facades of two office buildings, adding that there were no casualties or injuries.

In recent weeks, Ukraine has ramped up its attempts to target Moscow with drone strikes, which have been mostly unsuccessful. On Wednesday, the Russian Defense Ministry said that Moscow's air defenses had thwarted another "terrorist attack" involving two Ukrainian drones which were shot down on their way to the Russian capital.

In late July, commenting on the recurring Ukrainian drone raids on Moscow, Kremlin press secretary Dmitry Peskov said that they looked like "acts of desperation" that he claimed were motivated by Kiev's failure to breach Russian lines during its much-hyped counteroffensive. According to the Russian Defense Ministry, Ukraine has lost more than 43,000 service members and almost 5,000 pieces of military equipment since the start of the push in early June

The American surveillance state - when will Big Brother fall?

tech eye
Definitions: "impunity, noun, the exemption from punishment or freedom from the injurious consequences of an action."

In 2013, Edward Snowden leaked information from the U.S. National Security Agency (NSA) about massive surveillance being carried out on individuals, companies, and governments on a global scale. Snowden released to the media millions of documents and kept essential files to prove his allegations that U.S. agencies, especially the NSA, operate with impunity, spying on anyone in the agency's sights. Even though Edward Snowden's whistleblowing unveiled heinous operations by the NSA in close cooperation with three of its four Five Eyes partners: Australia's ASD, the U.K.'s GCHQ, and Canada's CSEC, no heads rolled.

NSA boss and retired U.S. Air Force Lt. General James Clapper, who lied to Congress about NSA wiretapping and other strategies, did not even receive a slap on his wrist. Then, President Obama wrote a memo saying he had "full faith in Director Clapper's leadership of the intelligence community." Clapper resigned effective the day Barack Obama stepped down as president. He is now an expert commentator at CNN.

Only Edward Snowden paid the price for unimaginable wrongdoing by individuals and agencies of power. He alone is a hunted man. And worse still, the whole affair was a test of the general public's will to resist tyranny. It seems clear now that then-President Barack Obama and a laundry list of Western leaders in politics and business knew about the deep surveillance of individuals, companies, and even charities without legal authority. In one instance, the NSA, the CIA, and GCHQ went so far as to spy on users of Second Life, Xbox Live, and World of Warcraft and attempted to recruit would-be informants from the sites. All this and much more were revealed to journalist Glenn Greenwald at The Guardian newspaper.

Pelosi on second Trump term: 'We will not be the United States of America'

Nancy Pelosi
Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) warned of the dangers of former President Trump winning a second term in office in an interview published Monday.

"Don't even think of that," said Pelosi, the former Speaker, when asked about the potential for another Trump administration term, in an interview with New York Magazine.

"Don't think of the world being on fire. It cannot happen, or we will not be the United States of America," Pelosi said.

Comment: Pelosi probably does think of another Trump presidency as an existential threat to America, but the America she's defending is a rotten cesspool of corruption she's been benefiting from for decades. In the end, she's only worried about her own self-interest.

House Republicans say the president's son Hunter sold favors and have published receipts.

The House Oversight Committee on Wednesday published receipts showing Hunter Biden, the son of current US President Joe Biden, receiving money from Russia, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan by trading on the family name.

The committee says it has identified $20 million in payments from foreign sources to Hunter Biden's company, which they describe as a front to sell access to the "Biden network" while his father was Barack Obama's vice-president (2009-2017).

A French lawmaker has warned the nation's interior ministry about the security threat posed by right-wing militants who left to fight for Kiev, but may eventually return home.

In a written question to Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin published on the parliament's website on Tuesday, Frederic Mathieu, a member of the left-wing La France Insoumise party, sounded the alarm about the presence of French fighters in the Ukrainian international legion.

According to Mathieu, among the 400 French people who have left for Ukraine, "there are around a hundred combatants, most of whom have been clearly identified as part of the ultra-right movement." Some of them already had military experience before their deployment, the MP added.
