Sinkholes
A burst water main on Homington Road left bitumen collapsing in front of one family's eyes.
"The road actually lifted up and then just collapsed back into the ground," resident Chris Orange said.
"We were slowly watching bits of bitumen just break off from the sides, and it slowly got bigger and bigger."
Water was cut off in the area while crews worked hard to repair the road.
Giant cracks are opening all around the world. While terrifying landslide and fissures are perforating the ground in Peru, another large and unexplained geological event split the Earth in two over at least 200 meters in desertic Saudi Arabia.
The deep crack is still growing. It was discovered on February 27, 2018, in Al-Majma'a Governorate, north of Riyadh.
Comment: Saudi Arabia has seen some bizarre weather from hailstones to flooding in the famously scorching hot region:
But it's not just Saudi Arabia seeing extreme weather events:

Over the past 10 days, more than 30 hectares of earth moved as the ground was torn apart in the district of Llusco in the south of country.
Shocking footage shows deep chasms and crumbled buildings as stunned residents look on.
The government has since declared a state of emergency that is expected to last 60 days as authorities bring aid to the displaced.

From 2018:We're seeing some incredible movement on Earth of late:
The cracks and ground movement have already started in 2012 in the region, however, in recent weeks, the situation has become too dangerous, with villagers evacuating homes and seeking refuge in other settlements far away.
On March 2, 2018, a new landslide occurred around 3 am and caused the collapse of 37 homes, the health center of the city, a stretch of 300 meters of road and threatens to destroy a primary and secondary school. There are now at least 53 large cracks - due to earthquakes and heavy rains - destabilizing the ground in the region.

It happened near Herington Park. Brown Street is closed now, and will remain closed between 11th Street and 12th Street.
Davenport Public Works is not sure what caused the collapse, but they it could take between one to two weeks to repair.
According to firefighters, the hole was reported at around 10:31 p.m. on Thursday by a person who saw smoke coming out of it.
A rupture in a concrete sewer pipe was the cause, firefighters said.
There have been no reports of injuries or traffic accidents caused by the hole.
But the hole caused traffic jams and safety concerns.

A large sinkhole, at least 11 feet wide and eight feet deep, is the result of recent flooding and an aging drainage structure beneath the roadway, and has prompted the closure of a section of rural roadway on North Cochran Road, officials said.
"It is not going to be a quick process, measured in hours or days," Ballou said. "I think it will be measured in weeks. We have to replace the whole structure."
Ballou said the Wright-Parlee Maxson Drain runs underneath the roadway. The drainage structure at the sinkhole is a combination of corrugated pipes and remnants of an old concrete bridge that was put in place in the 1950s, he said.
Wood Trail South of Drahner closed due to the sinkhole, which is causing flooding for some of the residents.
Crews are currently using a pump to bypass the broken section to prevent water damage to homes.
At this point, it's not clear when the road is expected to reopen to traffic.

LAKE POOPÓ The dry, salt-crusted Bolivian lake bed unfurls into the distance. Boats are stranded; the fish and waterfowl are gone. Fishermen who depended on the lake are moving else - where. It’s a diaspora born of drought.
Tire tracks stretched across the flat lake bed to the horizon. We followed them in a Suzuki 4x4, looking for clues about what's happened to Poopó, once Bolivia's second largest lake, which has vanished into the thin air of the Andean highlands.
We were driving on the lake bottom, yet we were more than 12,000 feet above sea level. The spring air was lip-chapping dry. Many of the fishing villages that have relied on Lake Poopó for thousands of years have emptied too, and we drove past clusters of abandoned adobe homes. Dust devils danced around them, spinning in warm winds. In the distance we spotted several small aluminum boats that seemed to be floating on water. As we drove closer, the mirage receded, and we found the boats sitting abandoned in the silt. I stepped out of the vehicle. My shoes cracked the salty crust that had formed jagged lumps, like ice cream in a freezer that has melted and recrystallized.

A south Marion County woman was surprised early Thursday morning by sinkholes opening up near her home.
The house is at 17092 SE 79th McLawren Terrace in The Villages, Emergency Management Director Preston Bowlin said.
That home and a neighboring one affected by the sinkholes were condemned, he said. Two other homes have been evacuated as a safety precaution. Seven people have been displaced.
Bowlin said there were six sinkholes.
