Houthi missile sets British oil tanker ablaze, ship was abandoned by US & France warships, cargo was fuel for Israeli jet fighters

tanker
A British oil tanker, which was targeted by the Yemeni army on Friday night, was carrying fuel for Israeli jet fighters, Lebanese media have reported.

Beirut-based Al Mayadeen news network, citing informed sources, reported on Saturday that the British ship targeted by the Yemeni Navy in the Red Sea was headed for the occupied Palestinian territories, not Greece.

The sources told Al Mayadeen that two American and British ships were escorting the targeted vessel, but they ran away and left the British vessel carrying gasoline alone as Yemeni forces approached and clashes broke out.

The Trump-Carroll case is blatantly the greatest miscarriage of justice in modern American history

trump carroll
The awarding of nearly $90 million to the second-rate advice columnist E. Jean Carroll will doubtless be remembered for generations as the greatest miscarriage of justice in contemporary American history. Jean Carroll's case was not just ludicrous on the face of it, but between the judge, the "experts" who testified, and the mechanisms by which the case even came to be, it's impossible for any ordinary person in the West to see this as anything more than the continuation of a series of hoaxes perpetrated on former President Donald J. Trump with the desire to keep him from re-entering the Oval Office in January 2025.

THE 'RAPE'.

During the latest episode of this trial, Carroll admitted she wasn't doing very well financially and needed to find a way to sell more books. The testimony appears to be the basis for the very first claim she ever made, in New York magazine's The Cut, in the summer of 2019.

Comment: That this woman is taken seriously is further evidence of the clown world level things have gotten to (as if we needed any more). When blatant partisanism can influence a court of law to this extent, the Republic has truly fallen. What an absolute travesty of justice.

Ukrainian military comments on Belgorod plane attack

Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky

Ukraine has used "measures of destruction" against Russian transport aircraft in Belgorod Region and will continue to do so, the General Staff in Kiev said on Wednesday after an IL-76 carrying Ukrainian prisoners was shot down.

The transport crashed at 11:15am local time in the Korochansky district, about 90 km (55 miles) from the border. Initial reports in Ukrainian media, since deleted, claimed that Ukrainian forces had shot it down because it had been carrying S-300 missiles.

In a Facebook post on Wednesday evening, the Ukrainian General Staff accused Russia of "terror" attacks on Kharkov and said the "recorded intensity of shelling is directly related to the increase in the number of military transport aircraft that have been heading to Belgorod airport in recent times."

"We must determine all the hard facts - as much as possible, given that the plane crashed on Russian territory," Zelensky said in a video published on his website.

He added that the Ukrainian authorities are investigating the incident and working to "determine the fate of all POWs."

"Our country will be insisting on an international investigation," the president said, accusing Moscow of "playing with the lives of Ukrainian POWs." He did not name a culprit in the destruction of the transport plane, however.

Russia requested an urgent meeting of the UN Security Council to discuss the incident. Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters that "Ukrainian propaganda" has been frantically "trying to concoct other explanations" since the information about the passengers of the doomed flight was revealed. France, which chairs the council this month, said it could call for a session on Thursday afternoon.

Putin said that material seized from the crash site suggests that an American or French air-defense missile was used to bring down the plane, and that exactly how the aircraft was shot down "will become clear in a couple of days."

"The results of the investigation into the IL-76 case will be published so that the Ukrainian people know" what happened to their soldiers, he stated.

Mercenaries and neo-Nazis: Why French citizens keep dying senseless deaths for Ukraine
Just this week, Russia's Defence Ministry said it had hit a nest of 60 foreign fighters in Kharkov — most of whom, it claims, were French. If true - although the French government denies that's the case - it would raise a lot of questions, like why are French nationals fighting Russia in Ukraine? Who are these people, exactly? Why the Gallic shrug from Paris over their presence in an armed conflict zone when the ubiquity of Western intelligence in Ukraine suggests that France should be well aware of what's happening?
The US?
At least 400 US citizens have been killed during the conflict in Ukraine, Col. (Ret.) Douglas Macgregor, a former adviser to the defense secretary in the administration of former US President Donald Trump, has said.

"We know that at least 400 Americans have died whether they are contractors or in uniform. Our administration won't say this," he wrote on the X social network.

Israel accuses the ICJ of (you guessed it) antisemitism

israeli flag
The International Court of Justice rejected Israel's request to dismiss the genocide case brought against it by South Africa on Friday, ruling by a massive majority that the case shall proceed and instructing Israel to refrain from killing and harming Palestinians in the interim.

Many Palestine supporters have expressed dismay that the ICJ did not explicitly order a ceasefire, while many others (including South African officials) argue that the ruling is very positive and tantamount to a ceasefire order because it demands the end of harm to members of the protected group.

Imperial media are aggressively emphasising the absence of a ceasefire order in their headlines and many Israel apologists are framing that absence as a victory for their favorite ethnostate, but such performative chest-thumping is severely undercut by the way high-level Israeli officials are currently accusing the ICJ of antisemitism and saying Israel should ignore its rulings.

UN Court orders Israel to 'prevent genocide'

ICJcourt
© Remko ce Waal/ANP/AFPICJ President Joan Donoghue (C) and ICJ judges arrive at the International Court of Justice (ICJ) prior to the verdict announcement in the genocide case against Israel, brought by South Africa, in The Hague on January 26, 2024
The ICJ also demanded that humanitarian assistance be allowed into Gaza...

The International Court of Justice (ICJ) issued its first ruling on South Africa's case against Israel on Friday, ordering the Jewish state to take all necessary actions to prevent genocide in Gaza. The court did not, however, order Israel to cease its military operation against Hamas.

A panel of 17 judges agreed that the court, based in The Hague, has jurisdiction to hear South Africa's case, and passed seven "emergency measures" requested by Pretoria. In addition to demanding that Israel refrain from committing genocide, the judges ordered the Jewish state to punish members of its military who commit genocidal acts, as well as officials who publicly call for the genocide of the Palestinians. Israel must also preserve evidence of any genocidal acts already committed, the ruling stated.

The judges also ruled that Israel "shall take immediate and effective measures to address adverse conditions to life in the Gaza Strip." West Jerusalem was further ordered to report back to the court in a month with an update on what it is doing to comply with these measures.

The ruling falls short of South Africa's full list of demands, which included a measure ordering Israel to "immediately suspend its military operations in and against Gaza."

Tomorrow the International Court of Justice will give its decision on the South African interim request for provisional measures to prevent genocide in Gaza. Many are holding their breath for something that will help. How will this go?

You can read my views on some of the arguments in play in my article for Middle East Eye. There is no comment section on MEE, so feel free to discuss that article here.

You will recall that my observation of the demeanour of the judges at the Hague left me not too hopeful. They definitely appeared very uncomfortable to be taking a case which effectively puts the actions of the entire western political establishment on trial, not just Israel. Yet it was impossible to say that South Africa had not presented a strong prima facie case of genocide, including plentiful evidence of intent, which at this stage was all South Africa needed to do.

As I reported the judges got most visibly interested by the procedural arguments that South Africa could not bring the case because it was not in a dispute with Israel at the time of filing. But I don't think that will stand. Firstly, it doesn't pass the commonsense test; there is no doubt there is a dispute between South Africa and Israel over whether Israel is committing genocide. While the procedural problem does not in fact arise from the text of the Genocide Convention, but merely from previous jurisprudence from the court that indicates parties should aim to achieve a resolution before going to the court.

None of that previous jurisprudence relates to genocide. In any case of alleged genocide, there is obvious urgency. If Israel's procedural argument is accepted, then any country committing genocide would only need not to respond to correspondence on the subject and nobody could take them to court for it, until after a "reasonable period" to reply, during which the genocide could continue. What is a "reasonable period" where scores of children are being killed every day? I don't think the court is going to fall for that one, much as they visibly gasped to be let off the hook.

Judges are of course themselves highly privileged members of the ruling elite. The extent to which that elite is bought up by the Zionist cause has never been clearer to the world. But I retain some hope still because the ICJ has a truly strong record. If tomorrow we learn it has failed, we will know the notion of international law has been finally abandoned.

Hunter and the hunted: How Joe Biden is being linked to corruption, terror attacks, and political assassinations in Ukraine

Bidens: Hunter and Joe
Recent statements by a Ukrainian dissident have revealed worrying ties between the US president's family and certain elements in Kiev...

Ahead of the 2024 US presidential election, there's been much talk about the family of US President Joe Biden and alleged corruption schemes connected with Ukraine. The story itself isn't new, but facts have recently come to light which make it clear why the American leader and his fellow Democrats remain intransigent on the Ukraine issue.

In the footsteps of assassins and those who hire them

Andrey Derkach, a former Ukrainian parliamentarian who became widely known for publishing recordings of conversations between ex-Ukrainian President Pyotr Poroshenko and high-ranking foreign officials, including Biden (who was then US vice president), gave an extensive interview earlier this month to journalist Simona Mangiante. During this conversation, he disclosed sensational new details about the "special ties" between the Biden family and the Ukrainian authorities.

Comment: Author brings missing pieces, connections and new information regarding the depth and breadth of the Biden family corruption in Ukraine. Incredible.

25 states with Republican governors sign letter supporting Texas in border control fight: What to know

barrier

Through the border security initiative Operation Lone Star, Texas has implemented physical barriers barring both immigrants and federal agents from accessing the border, raising legal disputes.

Almost all of the U.S. Republican governors have signed on a statement backing Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in his bitter fight against the federal government over border control.

The statement released Thursday on the Republican Governors Association website criticized the Biden Administration and said the state of Texas has the constitutional right to defend itself. This week, Texas officials and the Department of Homeland Security sparred over barbed wire along the Rio Grande. The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that federal agents can cut through the razor wire the state installed to deter people from crossing.

The letter, signed by 25 Republican governors:
"We stand in solidarity with our fellow Governor, Greg Abbott, and the State of Texas in utilizing every tool and strategy, including razor wire fences, to secure the border. Because the Biden Administration has abdicated its constitutional compact duties to the states, Texas has every legal justification to protect the sovereignty of our states and our nation."

Biden reportedly jams brakes on massive energy projects over climate impacts

Day one
© Fox News/KJN
'Such an action would shock the global energy market,' major energy developer tells Fox News Digital...

The White House has intervened in the permitting process for 17 large natural gas projects, ordering additional climate impact analyses after activists called on the administration to nix the projects, The New York Times reported.

In a move environmentalists have demanded in recent months, the White House is ordering the Department of Energy (DOE) to consider the impact proposed liquefied natural gas (LNG) export terminal projects would have on climate change, three individuals with knowledge of internal deliberations told the Times. The DOE has never before rejected a gas export application on climate grounds.

Shaylyn Hynes, a spokesperson for energy developer Venture Global, said in a statement:
"It appears that individuals within the White House are trying to force policymaking through leaks to the media. This continues to create uncertainty about whether our allies can rely on US LNG for their energy security. If this leaked report from anonymous White House sources is true, it appears the Administration may be putting a moratorium on the entire U.S. LNG industry.

"Such an action would shock the global energy market, having the impact of an economic sanction, and send a devastating signal to our allies that they can no longer rely on the United States.

"The true irony is this policy would hurt the climate and lead to increased emissions as it would force the world to pivot to coal."
The White House declined to comment on the report and the DOE didn't respond to a request for comment.

Comment: You can have heat...or Biden.
The Biden administration is delaying a key decision on liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facilities, potentially waiting until after the upcoming presidential election to make a final determination, according to The New York Times.

The changes to evaluation criteria for LNG export terminals reportedly under consideration could derail the construction of key facilities like CP2, according to the NYT.

Several key players in the administration's climate agenda reportedly met earlier in January to discuss what to do about the criteria for approving natural gas export facilities. The environmental lobby is pushing the administration to scrap CP2 and other LNG export terminals, but American LNG has also been instrumental in helping Europe meet demand after the start of the Ukraine war, according to Fortune.

American LNG exports have been on a steady rise since July 2020, reaching a record high in October 2023, the most recent month on record with the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

While pressure from allies may be strong, young voters and environmental activists are poised to be key constituencies for Biden and fellow Democrats as the 2024 election draws closer on the calendar. A decision to green light CP2 and other similar projects is likely to draw the ire of green voters and activists, an outcome which could possibly deliver a major blow to President Joe Biden's reelection chances given the bevy of unfavorable polls currently swirling around him.

Former President Barack Obama and his team ultimately waited to kill the Keystone XL pipeline until 2015, well after they had secured a second term and would not have to seek re-election again.

Neither the White House nor the DOE responded immediately to requests for comment.

Feds used 'fake intelligence' to frame Freedom Convoy as 'violent extremists'

Another scandal brews in the aftermath of the Emergencies Act ruling as intelligence agencies reportedly fabricated information to indict supporters of the Freedom Convoy.

From the onset of the 2022 Freedom Convoy that January, the Trudeau Liberals did not recognize their right to legitimate protest. They falsely accused the anti-lockdown convoy of being part of the 'far-right,' and began repressing them with the help of allied media, Public revealed.

The Public investigation reads:
"Central to Trudeau's invocation of the Act was the alleged threat of right-wing extremism and violence, but new documents that podcaster Jeremy Mackenzie obtained through Canada's freedom of information law show that this drastic measure was based on fabricated intelligence."
Government-approved media pushed that narrative soon after Trudeau accused Conservatives of supporting a "fringe group" with "unacceptable" views. They effectively branded the protesters as radicals.

Comment: Canada: Another country with a destructive placeholder at the top of its government.
