Remember, Earth's 'sky-watchers' don't see most of these fly-bys... until they're flying by!
The only thing to fear is one's denial.

Don't worry, it'll probably happen when we've killed each other off anyway.
@another1:
Nothing can be done about it with present technology.
@another1:
Who said anything about worrying about it? We're interested in the phenomenon because of its increase in frequency.
"Lucky for the Dinos it was quick since they didn't have a world wide 24/7 news cycle screaming "the sky is falling" in advance of "the big one"."
And neither does humanity. The media isn't paying attention to what's happening 'out there'.
"Humanity will probably detect "doom" then merchandise the crap out of the panic into the last seconds of our existence (joking)."
Quite possible actually. Or they won't detect anything at all. Remember the 2013 Chelyabinsk event? It contained a spectacular irony: they WERE tracking something else, a previously-detected and named small asteroid. Just as they watched it fly by (like, within hours), this other one 'came out of nowhere' and exploded above southern Russia.
"People like Niall, Joe, and others will be smugly hunkered down somewhere convinced that their ultimate prepping skills will exempt them from the kill shot and that by some divine miracle they'll come out of the doomsday scenario victorious and win accolades from some daddy figure in the sky for being so much more intelligent than those dead idiots who didn't spend their last days on planet earth worrying about worst case scenarios every moment of their existence."
We're all going to die, another1, whether it's from old age or 'a kill shot'. We don't expect to survive death any more than the next person. There is no 'God'. There is only what we choose to do with the time that is left.
Shock asteroid warning: Earth faces 100 years of killer strikes beginning in 2017 - or maybe even earlier?
Comment: In light of readers' feedback regarding the following article, a few comments: The 'science' in this article isn't really defensible. It's the 'newsworthiness' of the story that stands...I wonder what this really means for pigs in general and humanity as a whole does it mean that one of those flying pigs could actually land ( some of them are pretty big and hefty).
Some say it would be a really good barbecue, a time for celebration. Well maybe but it's the clean up job I am really concerned about. Who has the where with all of cleaning up the mess.

Now, if only the asteroid had landed on the first Trump-Clinton debate location, it would have massively extinguished this horrible election farce, and, as a bonus, a number of media personalities as well. Even if it WAS only the size of a school bus.
It certainly would not have extinguished all life on earth - those who survived could have breathed a great sigh of relief at their lives being spared, and being spared any more media coverage of the global elites' Election Kabuki Theater they have organized for the bamboozlement of us sheeple. The asteroid would probably have knocked the election coverage off the news headlines, thank God, at least for 3 days, if not longer.
Perhaps the next one will be better aimed, and better timed.
One can only hope.
Humans, we want to bite the worm dangling on the hook.... every time
Is not the size of the asteroid, but the fact that it was not detected.
Airliners on transatlantic flights fly usually at 6-7 miles above the surface of the earth, maybe we should start shooting them down.
No, it doesn't. In any event, don't get too hung up on their estimation of it its size, which is probably underestimated. Remember, they didn't see the rock coming until it was here!
"It usually burns up in the atmosphere."
Sure, after exploding at least once and sending shockwaves (followed by meteorites) in all directions. Read up on the Chelyabinsk event: [Link]
Well, I guess we should built a super strong plastic canopy to envelope planet Earth into, but apart from the practical impossibility, the monetary cost would be enormous. Kidding. Well, safety and security are both relative on this planet, proven time and again.
Really, that's relatively small, and slow. Not really much of a drama. But thanks for trying to panic us all.
As a contrary example, the so-called 'dinosaur-killer' some 65 million years ago, has been estimated as being a good ten miles long... landed in the Mexican Gulf while the tail end was still largely above the decent part of the Earth's hard atmosphere (twice as high as where international passenger jets fly).
The real problem is NEO's (Near Earth Asteroids) that are between Earth and the Sun. We know next to nothing about those.
And really, even if we did detect the next 'dinosaur-killer', there is about fuck-all we could do about it, even if it was years away. We just don't have the technology, whatever the self-aggrandizing NASA might claim..Bend over and kiss this goodbye.
Of course that's far-fetched but could it be a possibility ?
PS I heard on C2CAM a few evenings back that the "Annunaki" were piggy backing onboard the planets of the Nemesis/Nibiru system and they are going to have a good ole fashioned BBQ with most of us as the main course. Damn aliens!
Note that corporate-gov-capture looks for and nurture new revenue and mind spinners by which to generate budgets and privileges to the 'saviours'.
That does not mean there are no potential dangers from Outer Space or that there may not be technologies that could be leveraged to influence outcomes in some circumstances. But there are actual and ongoing dangers of the undermining of our integrity of accountability and communication in corp-gov-captures that in my opinion outweigh the feared or imagined outcomes of asteroid or similar interactions - the worst of which I do not see us as being able to do anything about - short of building modern day arks.
So a kind of mind-click baiting propagation of fear driven agenda that undermines credibility of 'news'... or the staple 'news' diet for the captured bot-net that feeds 'the war'.
Watch Brian O's Vimeo series "The Book of Man Enigma" (10 parts). He agrees that multiple asteroids killed dinosaurs and were launched from space, but was done by "Humans". I must agree with slight fear mongering here, this would hardly have been an extinction level event even if it had come "straight" in, althought I do give credit to the idea of possible multiple comet/asteroid bombardments in a short span of time doing great damage.
Peace!
An asteroid does not have to collide with the earth to cause destruction.
