16 killed in lightning strikes, thunderstorm in Bihar, India

Sixteen people were killed in lightning strikes and thunderstorms across Bihar on Tuesday, as per an official statement.

Four people died in East Champaran district, three people each were killed in Bhojpur and Saran, two people each in West Champaran and Araraia, and one person each in Banka and Muzaffarpur, it said.

Expressing grief over the deaths, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh for the families of each victim.

In the statement, he also appealed to the people to take precautions during inclement weather and follow the directions issued by the Disaster Management Department.

"Stay at home and stay safe in bad weather," he said.

On June 20, 17 people died in lightning strikes across the state.

Lightning kills six people across Nepal

Six people have lost their lives due to lightning across the country.

Police said those deceased were from Kailali, Kanchanpur, Rupandehi and Nawalparasi (West).

Puna Ram Chaudhari, 48 of Krishnapur Municipality-5, Kanchanpur was killed on Tuesday morning due to lightning in the course of planting paddy.

Similarly, Suga Pankhi Devi Chaudhary, 56, a resident of Kailari Rural Municipality-1, Kailali, was struck by lighting and killed. She was injured during the paddy plantation nearby her house and breathed her last on the way to the Seti Provincial Hospital, Dhangadhi.

A tornado left a trail of destruction in and around the Dutch city of Zierikzee this afternoon. According to the Zeeland Safety Region nine people were injured and one person died.

The tornado tore roof tiles from a church, damaged trampolines and uprooted trees. At least four homes had their roof blown off and a facade of at least one home collapsed. Ten to twenty houses became temporarily uninhabitable.

Buildings destroyed as storm hits Baoding, China

High winds hit Baoding in Hebei, China on June 23rd 2022.

Buildings were destroyed, as roofs were torn off. Trees were uprooted, blocking roads.

Power shortages were reported as electricity supplies were affected.

Residents were advised to remain indoors for the duration of the storm.

Following the storm, debris filled the streets, causing further disruption.

As monsoonal moisture moved through Southern California Wednesday more than 50,000 lightning strikes were detected, starting wildfires and killing a woman and her two dogs who were walking in Pico Rivera.

Chris Vagasky, @COweatherman, tweeted that a total of 54,329 strikes were recorded across California on Wednesday UTC time.

Multiple fires suspected of being started by lightning occurred in Southern California, with most of them being suppressed while very small. The cause of the Thunder Fire east of Interstate 5 near the Grapevine north of Frazier Park is under investigation, but the suspected cause is lightning, said Captain Andrew Freeborn of the Kern County Fire Department. At 6:45 a.m. Thursday the Department reported it had burned approximately 2,300 acres and was being staffed by 250 personnel.

A woman and her two dogs were killed in a lightning strike in the Los Angeles area Wednesday morning as thunderstorms rolled through Southern California, officials said.

Antonia Mendoza Chavez, 52, was struck by lightning around 8:50 a.m. in Pico Rivera, Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department spokesman Deputy Miguel Meza said.

There were no witnesses, but paramedics called to the scene determined that her injuries were caused by lightning, he said. The two dogs also did not survive.

A low off the coast of California was bringing monsoonal rain and thunderstorms to Los Angeles and Ventura counties Wednesday, the National Weather Service said in a forecast discussion.

Floodwaters engulfed homes, fields and roads in southern China as the region was battered by the heaviest rainfall recorded in the area in 61 years.

At least five people died in a village in Guangxi province on June 18, 2022, after their homes were washed away, state media reported.

Authorities have evacuated nearly 150,000 residents from the region so far.

On June 20 a task force from Beijing was sent to Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region and Guangdong province to lead rescue and evacuation efforts.

Lightning strike kills two persons in Odisha, India

Two persons were killed in a lightning strike at Santrapur village under Ghatagaon police limits in Keonjhar district on Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Hiramani Munda (65) and Binati Munda (35).

According to reports, Hiramani and Binita had taken goats to the nearby forest for grazing. When they were inside the forest, it rained heavily.

To protect themselves from rain they had taken shelter in a cave when lightning struck them. The two collapsed after lightning struck them.

Locals rushed them to the Community Health Centre (CHC) at Ghatagaon. However, they were declared dead by the attending doctors at the CHC.

Ivory Coast - Deadly floods and landslides in Abidjan again after 6 inches of rain in 12 hours

Heavy rain has once again caused flooding and landslides in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), where authorities say at least 6 people have died. This is the second spate of flooding to hit the city in the last 7 days.

Heavy rainfall overnight from 20 to 21 June 2022 triggered flash flooding and landslides in parts of Abidjan. According to data from the Ivory Coast meteorological agency, parts of Yopougon recorded 161 mm of rain and Cocody 158 mm in 12 hours to early 21 June.

As of 21 June, the Civil Protection Agency reported 6 people had died including 4 children aged 4 to 15, all from the same family, who lost their lives in the village of Angorankoi in the commune of Bingerville, after part of their house collapsed due to rising waters.
