Lightning strikes kill 11 in Madhya Pradesh, India as monsoon approaches peak

Many cities in Madhya Pradesh received showers on Wednesday, including the Gwalior-Chambal region, where lightning fell at many places amidst the heat, humidity and then rain.

Due to this, 8 people died and 4 people were seriously injured. Most of the deaths occurred in Sheopur. In Chhatarpur also three including a mother and son duo lost their lives, reported Dainik Bhaskar.

Meanwhile, rain is likely to happen in Indore, Ujjain, and Bhopal, throughout the day.

Lightning also struck six friends who were having a picnic in the forest near Ajnoi village in the Sheopur district. Three friends (Rambharat Adivasi, Dilip Adivasi and Mukesh Adivasi) died on the spot. Three friends (Dayaram Adivasi, Satish Adivasi and Somdev Adivasi) were seriously injured, and have been referred to Gwalior.

Spain has been hit by a number of storms with rivers of hail, strong winds and torrential rain tearing through cities and farmlands destroying property and crops.

The storms come as parts of Spain, Italy and other areas in Europe suffer drought conditions destroying crops and emptying dams.

Wildfires are breaking out across Yukon as lightning pummels the territory and a heat wave wears on, a fire information officer says.

Mike Fancie of Yukon Wildland Fire Management says about 20 fires a day have been sparked beginning on the long weekend, bringing the total this year to 155 wildfires that have burned 45,000 hectares.

Fancie described the proportion of fires caused by lightning as "stupendously high" at 97 per cent, compared with about 70 per cent in a typical year with the remainder being caused by humans.


On Monday alone, there were more than 3,000 lightning strikes, 484 of which were positive strikes that carry with them increased fire danger, he said.

Disaster officials in Ecuador reported heavy rain caused the overflow of 10 rivers in various locations in the country from 03 to 05 July 2022. At least 3 people have died and dozens displaced.

Heavy rain, floods and landslides have caused at least 3 fatalities according to disaster officials and local media reports. One person died after being swept away by floods in Azogues in the province of Cañar. Another person died when a house collapsed in Azuay. A third fatality was reported after floods in the canton of Guamote in the province of Chimborazo.

Floods have hit Australia's largest city Sydney for the third time this year prompting evacuation warnings to 50,000 people.

Parts of Sydney have received about eight months of rain in four days.

Roads have been cut off, some houses are under water and thousands have been left without power.

Widespread flooding across Australia - driven by a La Niña weather pattern - has killed more than 20 people this year, many in New South Wales.

At least 3 people have died after flash floods in Baling District in the state of Kedah, Malaysia.

Flooding struck after heavy rain from 04 July 2022. Levels of the Ketil River at Kuala Pegang jumped to 36.05 metres, which is 50 cm above the alert level.

Flooding swamped at least 9 villages in the district. Malaysia's disaster management agency reported 1,424 people evacuated their homes and moved to emergency accommodation as of 05 July.

Kedah Fire and Rescue Department said the bodies of 3 family members who were reported missing were found during the morning of 05 July 2022.

Flood water reached up to roof height. Over 70 houses were severely damaged and at least 6 completely destroyed by the force of the flooding. Local media reported some victims swept away by the floods managed to survive by holding on to trees and branches. Bridges and roads were also destroyed.

A tropical storm was moving slowly eastward toward the western and central parts of the Japanese archipelago Tuesday, bringing torrential rain and causing flooding as well as landslides.

Tropical Storm Aere, which made landfall on Kyushu before weakening into an extratropical low-pressure system, is expected to destabilize weather conditions nationwide through Wednesday, according to the Meteorological Agency.

The storm made landfall close to Sasebo, Nagasaki Prefecture, shortly before 6 a.m. It was reduced to an extratropical low-pressure system at 9 a.m. and had an atmospheric pressure of 1,002 hectopascals at its center, the agency said.

Lightning strike kills 2 in Nepal

Two persons died after being shit by a lightning strike at Bijulikot, Airawati rural municipality-6 of the Pyuthan district in Lumbini.

Nine others are injured in similar incidents across the district.

The victims are Roman Pariyar (7) and Kiran Pariyar (12), according to DSP Satya Narayan Thapa, the chief of the Pyuthan District Police Office.

Seriously injured in the incident on Monday night, both died during treatment at the District Hospital in Bijuwar, according to police.

Lightning strike kills 2 fishermen in Bangladesh

Two fishermen were killed by a lightning strike in Dharmapasha upazila of Sunamganj on Monday while fishing at Mugrain Haor in Sadar Upazila, UNB reports.

The deceased were identified as Manik Mia, 28, and Miyasha Mia, 30, residents of Janiyarchar of Sadar union in Bari upazila.

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Dharmapasha Police Station, the two were struck by lightning while they were fishing in Haor in the early hours of Monday.
