Two dead as strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake jolts Chile

A strong 6.7-magnitude earthquake hit north-central Chile on Saturday, the US Geological Survey said, with police reporting the deaths of two people from heart attacks.

The quake struck at a depth of 53 kilometers (33 miles) with an epicenter some 15 km southwest of Coquimbo, USGS said.

An elderly man and an elderly woman from Coquimbo suffered cardiac arrests as a result of the quake, police said, while there were several landslides reported on national highways.

An earthquake measuring 6.0 on the Richter scale jolted 76 km WNW of Isangel, Vanuatu at 13:18:32 GMT on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 45.06 km, was initially determined to be at 19.2079 degrees south latitude and 168.6329 degrees east longitude.

Comment: A magnitude 6.8 quake hit the same region 3 days prior to the above event.

Shallow magnitude-6.0 earthquake registered near Mexican Pacific Coast

The 6.0-magnitude earthquake was registered on Friday near the Mexican Pacific coast, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.

The tremors hit the Northern East Pacific Rise at 16:40 GMT, 1,026 kilometers (about 640 miles) northeast the Mexican city of Acapulco.

The epicenter of the earthquake was located at the depth of 10 kilometers.

There are no reports about any injured, or killed people by the earthquake. No tsunami alert has been declared.

The Mexican Pacific coast is located in the so-called Ring of Fire, a seismically active zone that is often hit by powerful earthquakes.

Magnitude 6 quake jolts Nicobar Islands region

A strong earthquake of magnitude 6 hit the seismologically prone Andaman and Nicobar Islands Thursday, National Centre for Seismology (NCS) said.

There was no tsunami alert issued as sea levels around the Andaman Nicobar archipelago showed no major rise, said SPS Shenoi, Director INCOIS.

The earthquake hit the region at 8.43 am and its epicentre was Nicobar Islands region.

There were no immediate reports of loss of life or damage to property, officials said.

The earthquake, recorded at 8:07 a.m. Hawaii time, had a registered depth of 29 miles.

Based on all available data, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center in Honolulu said a destructive Pacific-wide tsunami is not expected and there is no threat of tsunami to Hawaii.

The seismic activity in the Canary Islands is increasing dramatically since 3 years, passing from 330 in 2016 to 1100 in 2017 and 1527 in 2018. Although new seismometers have been placed in strategic active spots (like the volcano Mount Tiede), it cannot be the only cause behind this spike. Is something brewing in this Spanish archipelago located in the Atlantic Ocean?

Comment: USGS records show that earthquakes worldwide have increased 2,000% since the 1900's and, in just the last year, Alaska, Yellowstone and Iceland are just some of the locations that have shown a startling increase in swarm events. But it's not just earthquakes we have to worry about, there are a variety of other related phenomena including volcanic activity, sinkholes, landslides and fissures.

Something is happening to our planet. The mainstream media is not talking much about this, and the experts assure us that everything is going to be just fine, but the truth is that we have been witnessing an unusual amount of seismic activity all over the world. Up until just recently, most of the shaking has been elsewhere on the globe, and so it has been easy for most Americans to ignore. But now North America is rattling, and that isn't going to be so easy to brush aside. In fact, 2019 has barely even gotten started and the state of Alaska has already been hit by 81 significant earthquakes...
Alaska notoriously experiences a lot of seismic activity, and in the first nine days of 2019 has been shaken by 81 earthquakes of a magnitude 2.5 or higher according to the United States Geological Survey. Of these, five have been magnitude 4.5 or higher, with one reaching magnitude 6.1. This huge quake took place 54km south-southwest of Tanaga Volcano on January 5.
Is this normal?

No, of course it is not normal. And the heightened seismic activity that has been taking place all along the Ring of Fire is not normal either. Just ask the people that were devastated by the massive tsunami that just hit Indonesia.

A 6.4 magnitude earthquake stuck off south Japan on Tuesday, the U.S. Geological Survey said. There were no immediate reports of damage or casualties.

The quake was 39 km (24 miles) deep and centered 116 km south southeast of Kagoshima.

Earthquakes are common in Japan, one of the world's most seismically active areas. Japan accounts for about 20 percent of the world's earthquakes of magnitude 6 or greater.
