US: McDonald's salads contaminated with fecal matter poisons 163 people in 10 states

mcdonalds
The number of people sickened by tainted McDonald's salads has jumped to 163 in 10 states. Three of the victims have been hospitalized.

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration said the problem is caused by the Cyclospora parasite that is transmitted in foods contaminated with fecal matter.

Last week, the number of cases was 61 people in seven states - 29 in Illinois, 16 in Iowa, seven in Missouri, three in Minnesota and two each in Nebraska, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

An updated state-by-state breakdown wasn't immediately available.

McDonald's voluntarily stopped selling salads last week at about 3,000 restaurants in 14 states -- Illinois, Iowa, Indiana, Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio, Minnesota, Nebraska, South Dakota, Montana, North Dakota, Kentucky, West Virginia and Missouri -- until they were able to switch to another lettuce-mix supplier.

Comment: Just last year branches of McDonalds, KFC and Burger King in the UK were all exposed as having fecal bacteria in their ice. More recently a major UK frozen vegetable supplier had to recall their products due to a listeria outbreak. While it's been known for a long time that the major fast food outlets produce food that is nutritionally empty and even dangerous, it seems these outbreaks are on the rise in all areas of mass food production:

Accused fraudster Bill Browder accuses GOP Congressman Rohrabacher of being on Russia's payroll

Financier Bill Browder, wanted in Russia on tax evasion charges, has accused Republican Senator Dana Rohrabacher of being a Moscow stooge, alleging that he was paid by the Kremlin to lobby for the repeal of the Magnitsky Act.

Browder made his bold statement about Rohrabacher, who is the Chairman of the Subcommittee on Europe, Eurasia and Emerging Threats in the US Congress, as he was speaking at a panel at the Aspen Security Forum on Friday.

The self-styled "largest Putin's critic" was accusing Moscow of bribing foreign officials to promote its interests abroad, when he went on a personal offensive against Rohrabacher.

"There is one member of the US Congress, who, I believe, is on the payroll of Russia. He is a Republican congressman from Orange County, Dana Rohrabacher, who is running around trying to overturn the Magnitsky Act on behalf of [Russian lawyer] Natalia Veselnitskaya, who is the person who went to Trump Tower," Browder said.

Pressed by a bewildered moderator to back up his claims that Rohrabacher is effectively an agent of the Kremlin with some facts, he toned down his initial remark.

"I did not say he's an agent of the Russian government, I believe he is under some type of the influence by the Russian government," Browder said.

Comment: You can't really trust anything that comes out of Browder's mouth regarding Russia. He's got an axe to grind and he knows he'll be in prison for his crimes should those 'pesky Ruskies' get their hands on him. See also:

Research firm finds Amazon accounts for 49% of all online retail sales

amazon
Amazon will account for accounts for 49.1% of all online retail sales, up from 43% the year before, if they clear an expected $258 billion in sales this year.

The stunning figure provided by research firm eMarketer is tempered by the fact that Amazon's near-majority share of online sales accounts for just 5% of all retail sales. Amazon is set to rake in $258.22 billion in US retail sales in 2018, while annual growth has jumped 29.2% year-over-year, reports Tech Crunch.

Fueling Amazon's rise is a robust network of third-party sellers and a rapidly expanding range of goods from groceries to fashion - made all the more attractive for subscribers of their Prime services.
Now, it is fast approaching a tipping point where more people will be spending money online with Amazon, than with all other retailers - combined. Amazon's next-closest competitor, eBay, a very, very distant second at 6.6 percent, and Apple in third at 3.9 percent. Walmart, the world's biggest retailer when counting physical stores, has yet to really hit the right note in e-commerce and comes in behind Apple with 3.7 percent of online sales in the US. -TC

A vegan group has been slammed for peddling "homophobic views" and inciting hatred against the LGBT+ community after claiming on social media that chemical pollutants make people gay and transgender.

The Pembrokeshire Vegan Organic group said in a Facebook post, which has since been deleted, that there is "nothing natural or healthy about wanting to be the opposite from what we were born."

"The promotion of gay and trans is the promotion of sexual development disorders, caused by environmental pollutants and media and educational manipulation," the post, originally seen by the Independent, read.

Some 500 refugees are now stranded in a public garden in Nantes, France, where they are living in tents after being expelled from an abandoned house nearby. As doctors warn of epidemics, locals voice unease over their presence.

An estimated 500 refugees, mostly from Sudan and Eritrea, have settled in numerous tents in the heart of Nantes, western France, after authorities forced them to leave an abandoned building nearby. RT's Charlotte Dubenskij came to the spot and talked to one of the refugees. "We're lost, hopeless. There's a problem with finding somewhere to live, and food. We don't sleep well, it's tiresome," said a man identified as Mohammed.

Sanitation became a big issue in the makeshift camp as there is only one toilet and just a single water tank to service 500 people. Meanwhile, locals say they are concerned over the refugees' presence in the area. "It's very negative for Nantes, just like for every city where they settled," a local woman told RT. "It's a very bad sign for locals and tourists."

Comment: It's the policies of the Western governments that has led to situations like this. If Western imperial behaior force people to leave their country then they wouldn't be immigrating en masse to Europe. If the locals of Nantes want to blame someone, they blame their European leaders for allowing this to happen.

Snowflake liberals remove Rudyard Kipling's renowned 'If' poem from college student union wall over his 'racist' beliefs

A poem by renowned 19th century writer Rudyard Kipling has been scrubbed off the walls of a university student union amid claims his literature "dehumanised people of colour" and that he was an apologist for British colonialism.

Students, who claimed the poem went against what their union stood for, replaced Kipling's 'If' with US civil rights activist Maya Angelou's 'Still I Rise' at Manchester University's student union.

Kipling's poem was put up as part of the union's refurbishment, but Sara Khan, the liberation and access officer, said students should have been consulted beforehand.

"We, as an exec team, believe that Kipling stands for the opposite of liberation, empowerment, and human rights - the things that we, as an SU [student union], stand for," Khan wrote in a Facebook post.

Olympic bronze medal-winning figure skater Denis Ten has died in Kazakhstan after being stabbed in an incident involving two robbers.

The Kazakh skater, 25, who won Olympic bronze in 2014, lost three liters of blood in the attack and died in hospital on Thursday, despite resuscitation procedures by doctors, TASS reports.

The tragic incident took place in the city of Almaty, when the skater became involved in an argument with two unknown men who had attempted to steal mirrors from his car.

Comment: Many of Ten's fellow skaters have posted their emotional reaction to hearing of his tragic death. Russian Olympic silver medalist Evgenia Medvedeva was understandably shocked:
"This was only two years ago. Denis seemed to be the most cheerful, unusual and one of the most creative people in figure skating," Medvedeva wrote on Instagram, posting a picture of herself and Ten. "I can't believe it. I don't want to and I can't believe it. My condolences to Denis' family. I will never forget his laughter."
US skater Ashley Wagner wrote:
"Sweet, sweet Denis. You were such a light in this world. Talented beyond description and an incredible joy to have ever known. Your passion for this sport and the creativity that you brought into your every day life will be so overwhelmingly missed. Rest in peace my friend"
US skater Adam Rippon who competed together with Ten at the 2018 Olympics in South Korea wrote:
"My skating friend, @tenis_den, passed away today. He was so kind to everyone and a huge inspiration to me and so many other people. Murdered in the streets of Kazakhstan. Denis, thank you for showing us how to be a champion. Your time with us was way too short. Love you forever"
Russian figure skater Alexei Yagudin couldn't hold back the tears as he addressed the death of his former colleague
"Unfortunately, today a tragedy occurred, which should never have happened," said Yagudin, as tears flowed down his cheeks. "It is something that we never expected to happen. This is my video address to all the mass media, because I can't answer the phone calls [to comment on Ten's death] any more. I also want to address f***g idiots who are writing bul***t about Ten on social media.

"We have been crying the whole day because today not just a great figure skater, but a great person passed away. Yury and Oksana [Denis Ten's parents] we can't even imagine what you are feeling right now.

Indian authorities have arrested a Muslim cleric who came to blows with a local rights activist amid a heated televised debate over how Sharia law governs divorce and women's rights.

An Indian Muslim cleric, identified as Mufti Ejaz Arshad Qasmi, has been put under arrest following a complaint by broadcaster Zee Hindustan. Earlier this week, the cleric was filmed slapping Farah Faiz, a women's rights advocate, during a live show aired by the TV channel.

Things went out of control when the two clashed over the talaq - a buzzword which makes an Islamic marriage null and void if pronounced three times by a man. Faiz, who campaigns against the triple talaq, said this is not the form of divorce that exists in the Quran, triggering a violent reaction from the Mufti.

Strong wind from a landing helicopter has caused a tent structure to collapse at Fort Hunter Liggett in California, injuring at least 22 people. No fatalities have been reported.

A US Army UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter's rotor wash blew a tent over around 9:30pm on Wednesday. The incident occurred during an annual reserve drill - Combat Support Training Exercise (CSTX) - according to the military.

"First responders on site report there are 22 injuries. The majority of injuries are minor and are being treated on site," the base said on its official Facebook page. Four of the victims were sent to hospitals, and two of them were evacuated by air.

The base said that it is "not currently authorized" to release data on the condition of the injured soldiers. It also has not identified the victims.

Fort Hunter Liggett is the largest United States Army Reserve command post, covering 167,000 acres (around 676 square kilometers). Last year, a civilian contractor was killed after being hit by a Humvee at the base.

'It is an attack on our people': South African farmer wants to move to Russia, change name to Ivan

Married couple
Half a million white South Africans have left the country in the past three decades, but most didn't choose Russia as their new home, unlike Johannes du Toit, who is intent on settling here as Ivan Vahrushev.

"The hostility, the injustice I'm living through, it is to do with the South African government. It is an attack on our people. They don't want us to feel comfortable in our own country. They want us all to leave," du Toit explains in his still somewhat rough but comprehensible Russian.

Ironically, it is du Toit's inability to leave his country for good that led RT Russian crew to contact him in Paris and take a telephone interview.

Du Toit's is not a simple story. His family is descended from French Huguenots, who settled in the Western Cape in the 17th century.

"We were religious refugees, not colonizers," he insists, saying he prides himself on his South African heritage.

But for all acknowledgements of the white-led unfairness of apartheid, he says that the black majority rule means that he can barely consider the place he grew up a home.
