Amid a pandemic that left law enforcement agencies stretched thin and forced shutdowns that left young men with little to do, California registered a devastating surge in homicides in 2020 that hit especially hard in Black and Latino communities.

The number of homicide victims in California jumped 27% from 2019 to 2020, to about 2,300, marking the largest year-over-year increase in three decades, according to preliminary death certificate data from the California Department of Public Health.

There were 5.8 homicides per 100,000 residents in 2020, the highest rate in California since 2008.

Similar increases were seen nationwide. The number of homicides in a sampling of large cities grew 32% from 2019 to 2020, according to preliminary FBI data. The data encompasses over 200 cities with more than 100,000 people but does not include some big cities, like New York, Chicago and Philadelphia, that did not report.

The California death certificate data reveals striking disparities in who fell victim to homicide in 2020.

The number of homicides that took the lives of Black Californians rose 36% from 2019 to 2020, while homicides that took Hispanic lives rose 30%. By comparison, the number of white homicide victims rose 15% and the number of Asian victims rose 10%.

How America went from mom-and-pop capitalism to techno-feudalism

The crisis of 2020 has created the greatest wealth gap in history. The middle class, capitalism and democracy are all under threat. What went wrong and what can be done?

In a matter of decades, the United States has gone from a largely benign form of capitalism to a neo-feudal form that has created an ever-widening gap in wealth and power. In his 2013 bestseller Capital in the 21st Century, French economist Thomas Piketty declared that "the level of inequality in the US is probably higher than in any other society at any time in the past anywhere in the world." In a 2014 podcast about the book, Bill Moyers commented:

The number of young people in Canada who attempted suicide increased by 100 to 200% during the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent restrictions, according to charities and hospitals, which are warning of a youth crisis.

Children First Canada - a charity that advocates for the wellbeing of youth - warned via its Code Pink campaign that there had been "devastating effects on the mental and physical health of kids."

The charity claimed that a combination of school closures, lack of sports and other physical entertainment, and isolation from friends and family had created a full-blown crisis among Canada's youth, including a 200% increase in substance abuse, a 100% increase in child abuse cases, and a 100% increase in youth suicide attempts - which could actually be as high as 200%, according to McMaster Children's Hospital.

Toying with identity? Lego unveils 'LGBTQIA+' rainbow-themed set designed to 'celebrate everyone'

Lego has joined the growing roster of woke toy companies with a new buildable display model designed to symbolize "inclusivity," prompting some to dismiss the construction set as a cynical marketing scheme.

On Thursday, the Danish toymaker unveiled its 'Everyone is Awesome' set, which features a rainbow-flag-inspired backdrop and 11 monochrome figurines, each with their own hairstyle and color.

The model is designed to "celebrate the diversity of our fans and the world around us," and serves as a "symbol of love and acceptance by the LGBTQIA+ community," the company explained in a press release.

According to activist group OutRight Action International, LGBTQIA stands for "Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, and Asexual and/or Ally."

SOTT Focus: Vaccine Virtue Signaling And The Totalitarian Cult of Woke

'We got the shot! Won't you join us?...'
All tyrannical systems need a large contingent of cheerleaders in order to survive and thrive; a group of exploitable and devout acolytes that will carry the torch and evangelize the masses with the ideology of control. Without this aggressive percentage of the population, totalitarians cannot remain in power. In the US and most of the west, leftist ideologues have filled this role nicely. They claim they are fighting for the rights of the downtrodden but their actions speak much louder than their words.

They have supported and viciously defended nearly every draconian measure that governments and corporate elites have enacted in the past few years. They supported mass censorship of conservatives and moderates by Big Tech companies. They supported national lockdowns which destroyed hundreds of thousands of small businesses and violated the constitutional rights of millions of Americans. They continue to support unscientific mask rules which have been proven to achieve nothing tangible in terms of preventing viral spread. They support the use of "vaccine passports" which would effectively cut non-vaccinated people out of the normal economy and normal society and drive them into poverty. And, now they are all over the web trying to propagandize for the jab.

We know these unhinged creatures by many names, including social justice warriors, snowflakes, puritans, leftists, Marxists, communists, globalists, collectivists, narcissists, etc. Basically, they are some of the worst people on the planet, and while they usually drone on about "institutional racism" that doesn't exist, or a rape culture that doesn't exist, or a patriarchy that doesn't exist (though I'm starting to wonder if maybe we should start one), they have now found a new love in the covid "crisis".

Comment: Given the pathological level of group-think that's on display, it is no wonder that many other astute observers of the drive to "vaccinate, vaccinate, vaccinate!" have also described this multi-pronged phenomenon as cultish:

The madness of radical trans activism: Shops sell knitted penises for girls of 3 to wear in their pants so they can look like boys

Transsexuals like me look on in horror as a whole industry springs up to provide paraphernalia for children 'identifying' as the opposite sex. In what sort of world does a parent buy a fake penis for their preschool-age daughter?

Referrals of children to gender identity clinics have surged in recent years. The impact on teenage girls is well documented, but there is no lower age limit.

Last week, parents Matthew and Klara announced on British TV that their daughter came out as transgender aged two, apparently telling the family, "I'm not a girl, I think I am a boy".

They are not alone. In 2018- 2019, the Gender Identity Development Service - NHS England's national service aimed at under 18s - reported 31 referrals of children aged five and under.

What must go through the minds of parents who diagnose their children as transsexual and set in motion the ball of cross-sex identification, with potential mutilation and sterilisation down the line?

Ex-officers face charges in arrest of woman with dementia

A police officer who pushed a 73-year-old Colorado woman with dementia to the ground after she left a store without paying for items worth about $14 is facing charges of using excessive force, while a second officer is accused of failing to stop or report his actions, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Austin Hopp is facing charges of second-degree assault, attempting to influence a public servant and official misconduct in last year's arrest of Karen Garner in Loveland, a city about 50 miles (80 kilometers) north of Denver. Daria Jalali, who arrived after Garner was handcuffed, is facing charges of failing to report use of force, failing to intervene and official misconduct.

A person who answered the phone at the law firm representing Hopp said the office would not comment on the case. Court records did not list a lawyer for Jalali, and a telephone number listed for her did not work.

They were among three officers who resigned last month after a federal lawsuit filed by the woman's family and police video released by their lawyer triggered anger in the community and two independent investigations. The June 2020 arrest was captured on Hopp's body-worn camera, and the three officers also were shown talking about the arrest, laughing and joking in police station surveillance video.

US state-run RFE/RL backtracks on dubious claim West was honest with Russia re: NATO expansion on its borders after online outcry

Headlines RFE/RL

America's foreign propaganda service has sparked ire online with its version of the history of relations between Russia and NATO. But, as all good historians know, the past can be subject to change, and it has since had a rewrite.

The article, by Mike Eckel, a senior correspondent for the state-run RFERL, drew criticism in Russia-watching circles after it was published on Wednesday. It set out to look at whether the US and its allies had given assurances to Moscow that the NATO military bloc would not expand eastwards, in an effort to avoid escalation and maintain stability in Europe.

Initially, the headline asked if Russia had been "deceived" by these promises, and thereby had a legitimate grievance when NATO signed up the former Soviet republics of Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania as members. "No," it boldly concluded, caveating, "(but it's complicated)."

Quite how complicated the question really was would soon come back to bite RFERL, which quickly faced accusations it was glossing over a thorny issue to arrive at politically convenient conclusions.

Comment: RFERL is a US/Western mouthpiece, dutifully fulfilling its purpose to shape perception by shaping the news.

Fauci: Americans 'misinterpreting' CDC guidance on masks: It's 'not' removal of a mask mandate

Fauci

"I think people are misinterpreting, thinking that this is a removal of a mask mandate for everyone. It's not," Fauci said during an Axios virtual event. Rather, Fauci described the CDC guidance as "an assurance to those who are vaccinated that they can feel safe, be they outdoors or indoors."
"It's not their fault. People either read them quickly, or listen and hear half of it. They are feeling that we're saying: 'You don't need the mask anymore.' That's not what the CDC said.

"They said: If you are vaccinated, you can feel safe — that you will not get infected either outdoors or indoors. It did not explicitly say that unvaccinated people should abandon their masks."

Comment: COVID CONFUSION-19 brought to you once again by Dr. Fauci. Businesses cannot, and should not, be privy to who has had the vaccine and who hasn't.

More bad news for the Biden family.

Film producers Phelim McAleer and Ann McElhinney have announced that they are releasing a film exposing Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, for his "wildlife and dodgy business dealings."

The film, which is titled My Son Hunter, and will feature Hunter Biden's alleged drug abuse, alcohol abuse, and corrupt business dealings. McAleer confronted Hunter Biden at his Los Angeles residence about being a bagman for Joe Biden, who was referred to in emails from Hunter Biden as "The Big Guy."

Hunter Biden ran from the journalists and slammed the door on them when confronted about his international pay-to-play scheme and Burisma corruption. "Hunter came down to answer the door but he ran when he saw it was journalists asking questions," the reporter said.
