'European virus': Cuomo goes all-in on Covid-19 language gymnastics in standoff with Trump

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo called Covid-19 the "European virus," to zero pushback from the press that gave President Donald Trump no end of trouble back when he called it a "Chinese virus."

Outlining a plan to reopen some parts of the state for business - while keeping New York City and its environs under strict lockdown - at a press conference on Monday, Cuomo argued that the virus came to New York from Europe, not China, and even referred to it as the "European virus" multiple times.

At the same press conference, Cuomo argued that the virus came from Europe in January and "no one knew" about it, appearing to blame the federal government and US intelligence for the fact that New York came to account for about a quarter of all US Covid-19 cases and deaths.

"With all the sophistication, with all the public health organizations, with that whole alphabet soup of agencies, nobody knew the virus was coming from Europe," the governor said.

Comment: More political word games catering to the media and hysterical Leftists' desire to see bigots and racists everywhere.

Best of the Web: The political battleground of the virus has been drawn

protestors
U.S. professor of history at John Hopkins University, Mike Vlahos, in a series of short interviews with John Batchelor, tells us how Coronavirus has become a fiery pivot, pushing different leaders in the U.S. to take existential stands on how to deal with this virus. With various separate American states insisting to pursue directly polarised paths: Mandated 'sheltering' (the U.S. term for distancing) versus economic opening; States versus the Federal government; Blue versus Red; Dems versus GOP; 'authoritarianism' versus Laissez Faire and traditional American liberties - and now, internal state, Blue-Red conflicts (i.e. Ventura County versus California's Governor, on the burning issue of open or closed beaches); and even, counties versus states.

Vlahos notes the point is that that the battleground, thanks to the virus, has turned existential. No more is Blue/Red just a crafted rhetorical flourish - It is embodied; it is of biological flesh; it cuts into flesh - even as the virus' future is unknown. In fact, the unknown deepens fears. The choice: 'food on the table' in a re-opened the economy (even at the real risk of those 'doctors of death' returning), or to play safe, passively, with distancing. The collective psyche is split; passions are raised; weapons are flourished, and militia parade. This is not theatre: Its fervour is suffused into daily life: masks or not; socialise or not; work or not.

Greenmail: Trudeau makes Covid-19 aid intended to 'save Canadian jobs' conditional on meeting 'climate change goals'

Comment: "Force through all agendas while we've got 'em over a table" seems to be the order coming down from on high...

Adding insult to the injury of Covid-19 closures, Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has announced that businesses seeking emergency payroll funding will have to demonstrate their compliance with 'climate change' guidelines.

Citing the need to protect "Canadian middle-class jobs and safeguard our economy," Trudeau on Monday rolled out the expansion of the Large Employer Emergency Financing Facility (LEEFF), intended to provide bridge liquidity to companies unable to meet their payroll due to the shutdown.

Comment: It seems Trudeau isn't above holding people and companies hostage to force through his misguided agenda. There's really no level to which he won't stoop to utilize crisis after crisis to increase the reach of the nanny state.

Best of the Web: "Nazi-like measures" - Kansas City orders churches to turn over membership lists 'because Covid-19'

Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas
Mayor Quinton Lucas
Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas, a Democrat, has ordered pastors to turn over the names, address and phone numbers of anyone who enters church houses.

(This is something I predicted would happen in my new book, "Culture Jihad: How to Stop the Left From Killing a Nation." Click here for that book.)

"Never in our wildest dreams could we have imagined Nazi-like measures designed to surveil, track and spy upon what was once a FREE American people," Liberty Counsel founder Mat Staver said. "Yet that is exactly what Kansas City's misguided government officials are now demanding."

Liberty Counsel, a law firm that handles religious liberty cases, tells the Todd Starnes Radio Show that they are representing several churches that allege their constitutional rights are being violated.

Comment: Several weeks into the lockdown (and the amount of good information that is available on the virus) and we are still gobsmacked at the high levels of ignorance, authoritarianism, irrationality and downright pathology on display by so many Mayors and Governors around the the US. Add in a complicit media and a cowed, fearful and hystericized portion of society into the mix - and you've got an extraordinary amount of crazy-making being inflicted upon millions of Americans who are reasonably questioning why their lives are being totally upended. These conditions do not bode well for the overall health of the country, and appear to be worsening by the day. Take heed.

After the lockdowns: The Chinese system comes to America

china mass surveillance cctv
The plan: use the "pandemic" as the rationale for "re-imagining" the guts of society โ€” education, the workplace, medical care, transportation, public events, social relationships, the family...

Thus installing a new culture.

That desiccated dusty vampire, NY Governor Cuomo, and the cosmically psychopathic Howdy Doody, Bill Gates, are in the process of re-imagining education in NY State. Naturally, it's all about more computers, and remote learning.

I guess the dinosaur called BOOKS won't work, because there's no glowing screen, and the ability to read is a prerequisite.

In other news, the Chinese social credit system is coming to corporate America. (The Wall St. Journal has a relevant podcast, "Welcome Back to the Office, Your Every Move Will Be Watched.") Huge companies are scrambling to put together packages to sell to other huge companies:

Social distancing in offices, automatically monitored in real time; a caste system for employees based on health indicators; a credit score for each worker at the end of the day showing up on his cell phone; wall-to-wall surveillance...

Not just for now. For the new "re-imagined" America after the lockdowns are relaxed.

Unconstitutional, you say? Yes, there will be legal cases. This is called at-will employment. A corporation tells an employee: "You don't want to submit to an antibody test? Or a vaccine? You don't want to carry your cell around with you at work, so we can accomplish minute-to-minute contact tracing? You don't want to wear a wrist band that measures social distancing? Fine. We understand. This is a free country. But you can't work here anymore..."

How could this happen?

Says his own narrative lacks proof

Bill Browder's complaint against Der Spiegel for questioning the story he used to push for anti-Russian sanctions has backfired, with Germany's Press Council concluding his own position is far from being an "indisputable fact."

"We cannot agree with your analysis, in which you criticize the allegations made by the author," the German Press Council - a monitoring organization formed by major German publishers and journalistic associations - said in its response to Browder's team, as it rejected the complaint against one of Germany's major news media outlets.

The papers detailing the council's decision were published on Twitter by Der Spiegel reporter Benjamin Bidder, who authored an investigative bombshell picking apart Browder's story about his auditor Sergey Magnitsky's death back in November 2019.

Comment: Slimy vulture capitalist Browder has been exposed multiple times, but the stories aren't allowed to gain traction in the MSM. Browder is a washed-up, mid-tier financial bandit who managed to get himself cast as a humanitarian crusader. Having played his part in inflicting economic damage on Russia, is he now being hung out to dry?

'Obamagate': Trump accuses Obama of committing the 'biggest political crime' in US history

Fresh revelations show former U.S President Barack Hussein Obama was directly involved in an abuse-of-power plot, and may have committed prosecutable crimes. These appear to show a relation to allegations that Obama was involved in an 'impeachment scam' against U.S President Trump. For his part, Trump has officially stepped into the ensuing media battle over last week's disclosure of notes surrounding the debunked 'Russiagate' narrative, leading up to what is now purported as a 'leaked call' showing that Obama was connected to sowing discord for Trump surrounding his coronavirus response.

100 years ago the annexation of Palestine began in San Remo

One hundred years ago, representatives from a few powerful countries convened at San Remo, a sleepy town on the Italian Riviera. Together, they sealed the fate of the massive territories confiscated from the Ottoman Empire following its defeat in World War I.

It was on April 25, 1920, that the San Remo Conference Resolution was passed by the post-World War I Allied Supreme Council. Western Mandates were established over Palestine, Syria and "Mesopotamia" - Iraq. The latter two were theoretically designated for provisional independence, while Palestine was granted to the Zionist movement to establish a Jewish homeland there.

The Resolution read:
"The Mandatory will be responsible for putting into effect the (Balfour) declaration originally made on November 8, 1917, by the British Government, and adopted by the other Allied Powers, in favor of the establishment in Palestine of a national home for the Jewish people."
The Resolution gave greater international recognition to Britain's unilateral decision, three years earlier, to grant Palestine to the Zionist Federation for the purpose of establishing a Jewish homeland, in exchange for Zionist support of Britain during the Great War.

Through chaos and threats, China forges ahead

Beijing is turbocharging its Belt and Road and other game-changing plans despite Covid-19 and US hybrid warfare. Amid the deepest economic contraction in nearly a century, President Xi Jinping had already made it very clear, last month, that China should be ready for unprecedented, relentless foreign challenges. He was not referring only to the possible decoupling of global supply chains and the non-stop demonization of every project related to the New Silk Roads, or Belt and Road Initiative.

An allegedly leaked internal document, secret and invisible inside China, but nonetheless obtained by some obscure Western-connected source, even stated, essentially, that the blame game against China over the virus is like the backlash over Tiananmen all over again.

According to the secret, invisible document, China would have to "prepare for armed confrontation between the two global powers" - a reference to the US. It's as if this was an aggressive strategy deployed by the Chinese state in the first place, and not in response to the massive escalation of hybrid warfare 2.0 by the United States government. For all practical purposes, the hysterical demonization of China across the Beltway has now overtaken the previous hysterics, the demonization of Russia.

Old white male plutocrat! Democrats bash Trump for exactly what Biden personifies

Do the Democratic Party's leadership and its many allied mainstream media outlets have no shame? They are determined to run Joe Biden, a presidential candidate who embodies many of the evils for which they condemn Donald Trump.

Corporate Joe

Democrats rightly charge the reputed billionaire Donald Trump with serving the wealthy few. Yes, but what about Joe? His corporatist and pro-Wall Street record in Congress included votes to rollback bankruptcy protections for college graduates (1978) and vocational school graduates (1984) with federal student loans.

He worked with Republicans to pass the Bankruptcy Abuse Prevention and Consumer Protection Act, which put "clean slate" Chapter-7 bankruptcy out of reach for millions of ordinary Americans (2005).

Biden voted against a bill that would have compelled credit card companies to warn customers of the costs of only making minimum payments. He honored campaign cash from Coca-Cola by cosponsoring a bill that permitted soft-drink producers to skirt antitrust laws (1979).

Comment: The American Ideal of free elections - where candidates mimic the traits of liberty and justice for all - is just window dressing for 'The Deal'. It is up to us to remove the curtain, discover the looking glass and whose reflection it holds. (It is US. We are it.)
