Russian FM laments Biden's refusal to debate Putin, places blame for poor state of US-Russia relations on Washington

The US missed an opportunity to end the deadlock in relations between Washington and Moscow by refusing Russian President Vladimir Putin's offer of a live-streamed discussion between himself and his US counterpart, Joe Biden.

That's according to a statement from Russia's Foreign Ministry after the White House rejected a suggestion by Putin for an online chat about a wide range of issues important for the bilateral relationship, such as Covid-19 and regional conflict resolution.
"We regret to state that the United States did not support the proposal to hold a conversation on either March 19 or 22, in the format of an open-ended video conference. Another opportunity has been missed to find a way out of the impasse in US-Russian relations caused by Washington."
It concluded by firmly placing the blame for a breakdown in bilateral relations on the Americans.

Comment: One brief conversation (or its facsimile) seems to be all that's necessary to allay Biden's diplomatic concerns. (And, he can check 'insulting Russia's Head of State' off his short list. Done!)

Former President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing to launch his own social media platform in the next couple of months after hosting numerous meetings with companies at Mar-a-Lago.

An adviser to Trump made the revelation on Sunday during an interview on Fox News's "MediaBuzz" with host Howard Kurtz. Jason Miller claimed:
"The fact the president's been off of social media for a while because his press releases, his statements have actually been getting almost more play than he ever did on Twitter before. I'm not sure if that's because the length of them are a bit longer. [We] even had one reporter say that she thought it was much more elegant, the way that the president was able to communicate his thoughts and very much looked more presidential in that longer form.

"But I do think that we're going to see President Trump returning to social media in probably about two or three months here with his own platform. And this is something that I think will be the the hottest ticket in social media. It's going to completely redefine the game and everybody is going to be waiting and watching to see what exactly President Trump does. But it will be his own platform."
Miller said Trump has had "a lot of high-powered meetings" at Mar-a-Lago with "numerous companies" about creating a platform that he hopes will bring in "tens of millions of people."

Israel revokes permit of Palestinian foreign minister

Israel on Sunday revoked the VIP permit of the Palestinian foreign minister after he returned to the West Bank from a trip to the International Criminal Court in the Hague, Israeli and Palestinian officials confirmed. The move appeared to be Israeli retaliation for Palestinian support for the ICC's war crimes investigation against Israel.

A Palestinian official said Foreign Minister Riad Malki was stopped Sunday as he entered the West Bank from Jordan through the Israeli-controlled crossing. Malki's VIP card was seized, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity because he was discussing a sensitive diplomatic issue. Losing the VIP status makes it harder for him to move through Israeli military checkpoints in the West Bank, and traveling abroad will require Israeli permission.

Israeli officials, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to discuss the matter, confirmed the incident, but directed questions to the Shin Bet security agency, which declined comment. Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office declined comment.

The ICC's chief prosecutor, Fatou Bensouda announced earlier this month that she was opening an investigation into possible war crimes by Israel committed in the occupied West Bank and blockaded Gaza Strip.

Comment: The actions taken against Malki may be only the beginning of Israel's pathocratic fight against investigation. Israel likely sees it as a process of 'elimination'.

Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas on Sunday insisted the Biden administration has "closed" the border with Mexico to migrant families — yet said they will not turn back unaccompanied children.

Mayorkas said on NBC News' Meet the Press.​
"​Our message has been straightforward and simple. And it's tru​e, the border is closed. We are expelling families. We are expelling single adults. And we've made a decision that we will not expel young, vulnerable children. I think we are executing on our plans."
But he was pressed by host Chuck Todd who questioned whether parents in Mexico and Central America are looking at that policy and thinking their children have a better chance of getting in the US if they try to cross the border alone. The secretary said:
"We have a short-term plan, a medium-term plan and a long-term plan, and the president and I have spoken to this repeatedly. Please remember something: That ​[former] ​President ​[Donald] ​Trump dismantled the orderly, humane and efficient way of allowing children to make their claims under United States law in their home countries​."
Mayorkas said the administration is trying to rebuild those policies.

Comment: The success of the Trump policies at the border was epic, once all the mechanisms were in place. Biden could have ridden on his coattails and not reengaged this ballooning problem. Instead it chose to vilify what was working in order to grandstand its politics. Now it appears he is backpedaling by restricting information and access for the media.

Saudi Arabia presented a new peace initiative on Monday to end the war in Yemen, including a nationwide ceasefire and the reopening of air and sea links, but its Houthi enemies said the offer did not appear to go far enough to lift a blockade.

The initiative, announced by Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud, would include reopening Sanaa airport, and allow fuel and food imports through Hodeidah port, both of which are controlled by the Iran-aligned Houthis.

Political negotiations between the Saudi-backed government and the Houthis would be restarted, he told a news conference, It would take effect when the Yemeni sides accepted.

Britain's move to grow its stockpile of warheads by 40% is a violation of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons. That's according to Konstantin Kosachev, the vice chairman of Russia's senate.

Last week, London announced that it would be ending its policy of gradually reducing its number of nuclear missiles. Later, on the BBC's Andrew Marr Show, UK Defense Minister Ben Wallace revealed that 10 Downing Street took the decision in response to Russia investing "strongly in ballistic missile defense," noting that Britain needs to have a credible deterrent.


Comment: Russia also announced it will be spending more on its economy and less on weaponry, but it's unlikely that the ponerized establishment in the UK will be eager to compete with them there: Life expectancy in UK began declining at "breakpoint" year of 2011


"This decision by itself is a clear violation of the non-proliferation treaty and many other agreements that prescribe only the reduction of the number of nuclear warheads," Kosachev wrote on his Facebook page. "The [British] strategy calls for a 40% increase in the country's nuclear capabilities."

Russia and China need to work to further reduce their dependence on the dollar and switch to national currencies for trade in order to alleviate the risks of US sanctions, says Russia's top diplomat.

In an interview with Chinese media, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said that Moscow and Beijing "need to move away from the use of Western-controlled international payment systems."

"We need to reduce sanctions risks by strengthening our technological independence, by switching to payments in national currencies and in world currencies, alternative to the dollar," he added.

China has sharply increased its imports of oil from Iran and Venezuela in a challenge to two Biden administration foreign-policy priorities, according to U.S. officials, undermining key diplomatic leverage Washington needs to restart long-stalled negotiations.

China is expected to import 918,000 barrels a day from Iran in March, which would be the highest volume since a full U.S. oil embargo was imposed against Tehran two years ago, according to commodities-data company Kpler.

That trend is confirmed by other shipping trackers, some of which see those sales at 1 million barrels a day.
