Western media ignore AstraZeneca's call for more data on Covid-19 vaccine safety, cry 'Russian meddling' instead

While breathlessly claiming a PR effort that "could be linked" to Russia, major Western outlets are turning a blind eye to the very real report, authored by AstraZeneca, asking for better standards of data about vaccine safety.

According to the French outlet Numerama, a "mystery agency" named Fazze has reached out to French social media influencers and offered them talking points to "denigrate" the Pfizer vaccine. However, Numerama stops short of accusing Russia of anything, saying merely that a LinkedIn search for Fazze found "only one employee, who claims to have done internships for Russian companies before," and that the campaign "echoes most of the arguments that the official Sputnik V vaccine account shares on Twitter."

The 'Missile Intifada' brings an era crashing down

The acclaimed novel Birdsong tells a story from inside the grueling trench warfare of 1914-18. The trenches - mere mud, and rain-soaked corridors - were separated from the German lines, by the desolate hell of 'no man's land' - an indescribable flat wilderness of mud, mud and more mud, littered with broken bits of what once were men, whose remains no one dared retrieve, and the surreal black art of coiled razor wire twisted out into every imaginable shape and angle.

Across this Hieronymus Bosch landscape, the Germans laid down rolling wave after wave of intense high explosive artillery shells sending plumes of earth high up into the sky. Yet, in counterpoint to this dark and demonic backdrop, Birdsong unfolds a story of human struggle, near death and deep compassion for injured friends. But at the core, it is a story about tunnels - those who dug them; those buried in them, as they fell in; and those who sprung out from them - as earth-worms rising - to surprise and kill the enemy.

Tunnels were the secret weapon of WW1. They were the answer to the merciless aerial bombardment unleashed by the crushing mass of a superior military machine. Battalions would enter the trenches 800 strong, and emerge after the barrage, with a mere 100-200 living men. Yet on they went - volunteers digging tunnels through the mud to rise, like ghosts, upon a sleeping enemy.

Comment: Israel must now face two new realities: Hamas has for a good measure outwitted the Israeli machine and the tide of here-to fore complacency around the world is awakening.

The Manhattan district attorney has convened a grand jury that is expected to weigh any criminal evidence against former President Trump, the Trump Organization and top executives of his company and decide whether to issue indictments, according to The Washington Post.

Manhattan District Attorney Cy Vance Jr.'s office has reportedly been investigating an array of potential financial misconduct, including criminal fraud. News of the grand jury is the latest sign of a quickening investigative pace for Vance's probe, which is unfolding alongside an overlapping inquiry by the New York attorney general. Their offices are now coordinating efforts.

The grand jury is expected to hear several legal matters in addition to potential evidence of questionable financial activity linked to the former president and the Trump Organization, according to The Post, which said the panel will gather three days a week for six months.

It's no surprise the Covid lab leak theory persists in the US, given its history of biological weapons

The suggestion in America that Covid-19 came from a Chinese lab just won't go away. The thought that a state could act malevolently in this way has taken hold for a reason: the US has its own chequered past in biological research.

On Wednesday evening, after new claims surfaced in the Wall Street Journal, President Joe Biden issued an executive order requiring US intelligence to investigate Covid's origins - and the specific consideration that it was a leak from the Wuhan Institute of Virology - giving it 90 days to do so.

The news has come at the same time as the World Health Assembly, where the US has continued to politicize Covid-19 and demand transparency - a stance that is causing irritation in Beijing.

But there are still many questions to be asked. Why are some voices in the US so obsessed with the idea of a lab leak? And where did these claims, besides gaining traction as a talking point for Donald Trump, actually surface? What is their vindication in the American public imagination?

Comment: Biden's EO to investigate Covid origins will prove to be a diversion and cover-up. US intel will assure it.

Rohani urges Iran's Supreme Leader to open elections to more candidates

Outgoing Iranian President Hassan Rohani says he has urged the country's supreme leader to widen the field in next month's presidential election after only seven candidates were approved and several of his high-profile allies were rejected.

Rohani said during a weekly cabinet meeting on May 26 that he wished the Guardians Council would select more candidates to ensure greater "competition" in the June vote.
"The heart of elections is competition. If you take that away, it becomes a corpse. I sent a letter to the supreme leader yesterday on what I had in mind and on whether he can help with this."
The Interior Ministry announced on May 25 that the Guardians Council had approved Ebrahim Raisi, Mohsen Rezai, Saeed Jalili, Amirhossein Ghazizadeh-Hashemi, Abdolnasser Hemmati, Mohsen Mehralizadeh, and Alireza Zakani to run in the June 18 vote. The list -- chosen from some 590 would-be candidates -- was as notable for who wasn't on it as it was for those who were included.

The decision by the Guardians Council, which did not explain why candidates were included or excluded from the list, puts Raisi, a hard-line cleric in charge of Iran's judiciary, in a dominant position for the upcoming election. He's the best known of the seven hopefuls, has close ties to Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and ran against Rohani in the last presidential election in 2017.

Fusion GPS is losing the battle to keep its damning records secret

Glenn Simpson fusion gps
Glenn Simpson, founder of Fusion GPS
There's a fight brewing in a DC federal court over Fusion GPS's internal correspondence and records. And they're losing. What will Fusion's internal e-mails reveal?

Background

In 2017, the owners of Alfa Bank (we'll call them Alfa Bank for the purposes of this article) sued Fusion GPS and Glenn Simpson for their publication of false statements accusing Alfa Bank of "bribery, extortion, and interference in the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election."

Now, the Alfa Bank is on offense. They have filed a motion to compel, asking the Court to require Fusion GPS and Glenn Simpson to produce nearly 500 critically important documents improperly withheld as privileged.

Fusion/Simpson have fought the production of the documents, arguing that they are subject to the "attorney-client privilege" and otherwise privileged and not subject to production.

Comment: Well, well, well. All the principle players in the Russiagate farce, all tied neatly together. Good luck to Alfa Bank in their suit. We hope they do the world a favor and publish every scrap of information they pry out of Fusion GPS. Where ever you find Killary, you find Soros: Firms connected to Fusion GPS, Christopher Steele, were paid $3.8M by Soros-backed group

President Biden is set to propose a budget totaling $6 trillion in the coming days, The New York Times reported early Thursday, about a third higher than pre-pandemic spending levels.

The proposal would contain major investments in infrastructure, education and health care, according to the Times, and bring federal spending levels to their highest sustained level since World War II.

Under the plan, documents for which were obtained by the Times, the federal government would spend $6 trillion in the 2022 fiscal year and spending would increase to $8.2 trillion by the year 2031.

Best of the Web: China asks US for explanation of 2019 respiratory disease outbreak after Biden's new Covid probe: 'Fort Detrick base is full of suspicions'

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lijian Zhao

Beijing has called on the US to provide an explanation for a respiratory disease in northern Virginia and a large-scale outbreak of e-cigarette disease in Wisconsin after Washington launched a new probe into Covid-19's origins.

Speaking on Thursday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Zhao Lijian asked the US to reflect on its own role in the pandemic and not "dump" responsibility on China alone. Citing the 33 million Covid-19 cases in the US and 600,000 deaths, Zhao asked "How safe is your conscience?"

Comment: The New York Post reports on the Biden Administration's about-face :
The Senate has unanimously approved a measure requiring the federal government to declassify intelligence on the origins of COVID-19.

The bill, offered by Sens. Mike Braun (R-Ind.) and Josh Hawley (R-Mo.), was passed late Wednesday evening by unanimous consent, a method which expedites proceedings if no present member of the Senate objects.

The rare moment of bipartisan agreement came one day after President Biden ordered US spy agencies to do a 90-day investigation into whether COVID-19 was released by a Chinese lab.

The White House said Wednesday it isn't ruling out any possibilities, including the deliberate release of the virus.

Should the measure also pass the House and be signed by Biden into law, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence would be given 90 days to declassify "any and all information relating to potential links between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and the origin of the coronavirus disease."

The White House did not immediately respond to The Post's request for comment on the measure's passage in the Senate.

Biden made the abrupt pivot on Tuesday, following weeks of the administration on defense about deferring to the World Health Organization for answers on how the pandemic started.

In a statement, Biden revealed that two theories predominate current US official thinking. Those theories are that the virus emerged naturally from animals or escaped from a lab in Wuhan, China.

"Here is their current position: 'while two elements in the [intelligence community] leans toward the former scenario and one leans more toward the latter - each with low or moderate confidence - the majority of elements do not believe there is sufficient information to assess one to be more likely than the other.'"

Speaking to reporters at a briefing Wednesday, White House Deputy Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre said that no explanation was being ruled out by the president.

"We haven't ruled out anything yet," Jean-Pierre said when asked if the Biden administration had ruled out a "deliberate" release of the virus.

Sen. Hawley said on the Senate floor that, "the American people deserve to know about the origins of COVID-19."AP

The president said in his statement that he had given the intelligence community 90 days to get back to him with more information "that could bring us closer to a definitive conclusion."

"As part of that report, I have asked for areas of further inquiry that may be required, including specific questions for China."

The lab leak theory gained traction more recently, hitting the mainstream media this week after The Wall Street Journal reported that three employees at the Wuhan Institute of Virology fell so ill that they were hospitalized in November 2019.

The article cited "a previously undisclosed U.S. intelligence report."
And from The Duran:
Joe Biden says he wants the origins of COVID-19 to be thoroughly investigated.

Just not by the Trump-appointed team. No, he says, let the World Health Organization conduct it.

He means that World Health Organization... the one that played duck-and-cover for China when the virus first started its rampage in Wuhan, giving enough shade to that country to allow the virus to rapidly escape from China and to become a global pandemic, though thankfully, a far more feeble one than originally feared.

One has to listen carefully to see the strategy. The Trump appointed investigation might actually find the truth. The WHO lied before, and now that it has US support again, it can certainly lie again.

Who benefits?

Joe Biden, of course.

All this is cover for Biden's own very corrupt relationship with China, carried out sometimes through his degenerate crackhead son Hunter.

In the amazingly clumsy political theatre that is the Hologram Administration, it is stunning how even on Fox, most of this news just gets reported without a hiccup. To anyone who half-listens to the news (which is the bet), the notion would at best sound like "Biden is stopping the Trump Administration ordered investigation to bring in real experts."

However, this is exactly the opposite of the real story. The bet is that most Americans will never make the connection.

As with the upcoming summit with President Vladimir Putin in June, it would appear that this man is getting hung out to dry by the short hairs, so to speak, because Joe Biden is so corrupt that all anyone would have to do to control him is to threaten to leak, or openly speak about, how corrupt he is.

This may be the reason why news about the virus' Wuhan lab origins and Dr. Anthony Fauci's connection in supporting and funding the gain-of-function research (that likely resulted in COVID-19's accidental release) is gaining ground rapidly in the American news cycle. Information that the rest of the world suspected - that the US was behind the creation of SARS-CoV-2, not China, is right on the edge of being publicly stated. Tucker Carlson has done all but say it, but the details of this issue are laid out so clearly that it only remains for the reporters to ask the question:

"Why is the United States funding gain-of-function research on weaponized viruses in China??"

The answer to that question could well shake the US government to its foundations, and it would seem that Joe Biden or his handlers are aware of this and are feebly trying to fight it.

A complicit news media is the only means for this effort to succeed, and that complicity seems to be fading as Joe Biden and Kamala Harris do new and different strange things every day.

Armenia & Azerbaijan in fresh standoff over land-mined border, with Armenian soldiers captured & accused of supply route sabotage

Azerbaijan
© Sputnik
Months after a ceasefire ended the bloody Nagorno-Karabakh war, Armenia and Azerbaijan have accused each other of staging incursions beyond their bitterly contested frontiers, after six Armenian soldiers were detained on Thursday.

The Azerbaijani defense ministry issued a statement alleging that "on May 27, at about 03:00, a reconnaissance and sabotage group of the armed forces of Armenia made an attempt to cross the ... state border." Officials allege that the six men captured were attempting to lay mines and disrupt supply routes in what it described as a "terrorist" act.

However, later on Thursday, Armenia's acting prime minister, Nikol Pashinyan, insisted the soldiers had been abducted from within the country's own territory. "Our servicemen carried out work on the arrangement of the border with Azerbaijan [and] ... on mining, with the installation of warning signs. There was no purpose of sabotage," he said.

The Ukrainian energy company that was paying President Biden's son Hunter $1 million a year cut his monthly compensation in half two months after his father ceased to be vice president.

From May 2014, Burisma Holdings Ltd. was paying Hunter $83,333 a month to sit on its board, invoices on his abandoned laptop show.

But in an email on March 19, 2017, Burisma executive Vadym Pozharskyi asked Hunter to sign a new director's agreement and informed him "the only thing that was amended is the compensation rate."
