Summer is ending and it is not surprising that the lowest temperature in Russia today is in the coldest Republic of Russia - Yakutia. In the village of Eyik, Oleneksky district of Yakutia, the temperature dropped to -8°C, the lowest temperature in Russia. The temperature dropped below freezing in the southern half of the Republic as well. Negative values ​​were also noted in Yakutsk.

The fall season arrived in the Republic earlier this year.

Parts of Australia have seen a rare covering of snow after Antarctic winds reached the nation's southeast coast.

Snowfall was recorded across New South Wales (NSW), Victoria, the Australia Capital Territory and the island state of Tasmania as locals ventured out to make the most of the spring weather.

"We've seen light snow make it to Canberra today, and yes even heard a few rogue flakes landed on Parliament House," in the nation's capital, the Bureau of Meteorology said in a Twitter post.

The bureau added that more than one metre (3.3 feet) of snow had fallen in a number of alpine regions, and the cold weather would likely remain for several days.

"It's awesome," Raj Kumar told the Seven Network after he had travelled from Sydney with his family to see the weather phenomenon in the town of Oberon in NSW's Blue Mountains.

Cities in Rio Grande do Sul state in Brazil recorded snow and frozen rain early on Thursday afternoon, August 20th.

According to SOMAR Meteorology, in the Rio Grande do Sul mountain range, there were snow and freezing rain simultaneously.

Frost in Moscow region ... Even though it's still summer.

In the morning of August 21, in the east of the Moscow region, in Cherusty, in the grass, the air temperature dropped to -1 degree. These are the first frosts of the upcoming season.

Snowstorms and frosts in the high areas of the Argentine Patagonia Rio Negro province could cause the death of 70% of the flock, according to estimates from the provincial Livestock Secretariat, Tabaré Bassi.

Together with technicians from the Agriculture Technology Institute, INTA, officials made a first estimate of losses in the snow covered highlands next to the cordillera, but will have to wait until October to have a more exact estimate. "Any how we are talking of at least 100,000 sheep and 5,000 cattle".

Bassi called for prudence in assessing the dimension of the losses, but did admit that the victims of the intense snow fall followed by frosts are mostly small farmers, with flocks no larger than 250 head, "which makes it a serious survival challenge".

Ski areas in Australia have reported more than 60cm (two feet) of snowfall over the past three days.

A super storm has been dumping on the country's ski slopes since Wednesday, with increasing intensity in terms of the amount of snow falling every 24 hours.

With the coronavirus pandemic locking down the state of Victoria and the ski areas there, most of the resorts open are in New South Wales. They include Perisher, and Thredbo (pictured today) which both reported 25cm of snowfall in the last 24 hours having reported 10cm and 15cm, on earlier days.

From summertime flooding, to a dangerous derecho sweeping across the Midwest, this week has been a busy week of weather. But what weather events have been happening around the world?

We start our trip on the largest island in the Mediterranean, Sicily. A waterspout whipped up sand and debris and sent beach-goers running as it pushed on shore. Thankfully, no one was injured.

Our week was full of waterspouts and tornadoes, and Canada was no different. We head to the province of Manitoba where a deadly tornado ripped through the countryside. Canadian officials rated this tornado an EF-2.

Our final tornado this week comes from the Inner Mongolia region of China. This storm ripped through a tourist site injuring at least 33 people and destroying 150 yurts.

The month of August continues to surprise mainly for those who like very cold, as it registered frosts in negative temperatures every day of this month.

In South Brazil High Mountains (Serra Catarinense) registers historical cold (record cold) with three consecutive days at the -8º mark.

In Bom Jardim da Serra the Keizer stations network scored -8.8°C.
