A testimony of resistance during the covid pandemic

The Art of Richard Miklenic
© Richard Miklenic
There were many times when the dark and immediate days of the Covid madness in New Zealand seemed like an enveloping and impenetrable miasma. I remember, in an attempt to relieve myself from that feeling of suffocation, watching an old Italian movie — Il Sorpasso, directed by Dino Risi — over and over, as if summoning to myself a world that could never be again, a world of people, of raillery, comedy and togetherness, gathering at beaches and in restaurants and playing off one another for good and ill. It was a summoning of life.

During that time I was able to post various musings about the battle we faced, not knowing how they might be received and by whom, but following my own sense that doing so meant engaging against the enemy that sought to sequester us and split us apart and forcibly impose their evils.

Just recently I received the following email from a stranger from another far corner of the world. Its eloquence and message affected me powerfully and I have decided — with the author's permission — to share this missive with my readers.

Please take the remarkable and cogent testimony of Richard Miklenic to heart. I am both grateful and privileged to have had a role to play in this brave man's life.

Orwellian nightmare: UK confirmed to have "A Secretive Thought Police" towards a totalitarian government

Police State
© Unknown/KJNPolice State
Nearly 80 years after George Orwell wrote "1984", Western media still use it to describe totalitarian governments and societies, particularly if they're non-Western.
The general premise used by the mainstream propaganda machine is that Orwell was writing about others and that his works could never be used to describe "democratic" countries of the political West. And yet, it seems not even he could have ever dreamed about the levels of dictatorial control his own homeland would be subjected to. Namely, the extent to which the United Kingdom has descended into darkness is not exactly easy to put into words. The level of control exerted by the British government is beyond the worst of Orwell's nightmares and now includes what can only be described as "thought police".

In a typically bureaucratic manner, the secretive police unit engaged in sanctioning these "thought crimes" is called the Research, Information and Communications Unit (RICU). It has come under the spotlight in recent days and weeks after a string of crimes across the UK, with the government responding not to the actual crimes, but to those calling for the perpetrators to be held accountable. RICU has been caught advising police to portray everyone protesting the rise in crime as "raging racists". Worse yet, police are now arresting "the worst offenders" (i.e., regular people who voiced their concerns online or in public). Any criticism of the British government and its decades-long failed migration policies is presented as "right-wing extremism".

The brutal crackdown on protesters comes amid protests after a migrant attacked Stephen Ogilvie in Belfast.

Dominion Voting Systems, now under new ownership as Liberty Vote Holdings, is dropping all of its claims of defamation against MyPilllow magnate Mike Lindell, whose comments about a possibly stolen election and vote fraud during the 2020 presidential race count infuriated the former owners.

A report at Law & Crime confirmed the parties in the action brought by Dominion have agreed to the "dismissal of all claims and causes of action ... with prejudice."

Each side is to pay its own legal costs but the complaints cannot be raised again in another legal action.

"Each party shall bear its own attorneys' fees, expenses, and costs," a court filing confirmed.

JPMorgan executive identified and fired in trash can viral video

© @WorldLatinHoney/XAngie Báez was promoted to executive director of community and industry engagement for card and connected commerce at JPMorgan Chase more than a year ago, according to her LinkedIn profile.
The viral video of a woman stealing a trash can and dumping its contents after the Knicks' victory has led to her termination. Angie Baez, 40, was the "Executive Director of Community and Industry Engagement for Card and Connected Commerce" for JPMorgan Chase. She was shown in a video dumping trash on the ground to steal a Knicks-colored trash can after the NBA Finals. JPMorgan apparently concluded that this was neither the publicity nor the type of Community Engagement they are seeking.

The videotape of the incident shocked many by Baez's cavalier attitude, not just in stealing the trash can but in dumping out the garbage.

The New York Post later reported that the woman had been identified as Angie Baez. She previously served as "Executive Director of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion" at The Infatuation, a website that reviews restaurants and neighborhood activities.

After weeks of daily protests, Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama is digging in to defend two luxury resort projects backed by Jared Kushner's investment company that have resulted in thousands of people protesting in the streets of the capital Tirana and on the southern coast, where one of the resorts is slated to be built.

The opposition has dubbed itself the "Flamingo Revolution" due to the impact on a protected wetland home to flamingoes, seals, and sea turtle nesting sites - with protesters hoisting inflatable pink birds and signs opposing the projects. The demonstrations began late last month as site preparations began on the Zuvernec peninsula - while Kushner's wife, Ivanka Trump, went on a podcast and discussed plans to develop the island of Sazan.

UK tests long-range missile for Ukraine

Ukrainian Attack Drone
The UK tested a missile with a range of 300 miles, with plans to send the munitions to Ukraine. The platform will allow Ukraine to deliver 500-pound warheads to Moscow.

The missiles tested by the UK military last week were developed under Project Brakestop. The goal of the project is to design a long-range weapon that can be produced for under half a million dollars and within 20 months.

UK Armed Forces Minister Louise Sandher-Jones said the new missiles will "complement" the Storm Shadow cruise missiles London sends to Kiev.
"The UK stands shoulder-to-shoulder with Ukraine, and we will continue to provide the support it needs to defend itself against Russian aggression. Project Brakestop shows what happens when we combine that commitment with the talent and ingenuity of British industry."
The range of the missiles will allow Ukraine to target the Russian capital.

So Spain, how's that mass illegal immigrant amnesty working out?

SpainPMPedroSanchez
© euronews.comSpain PM Pedro Sanchez
Half a million.

That's the number that made headlines in April when Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez's Socialist government approved plans to grant legal status to 500,000 illegal migrants.

But a leaked police report warned that the true number could be much higher, estimating that between 750,000 and 1 million illegal migrants living in Spain could apply for amnesty, in addition to 250,000 to 350,000 asylum seekers. The report described the amnesty plan's "very intense media impact, especially in Latin America" and warned of a "highly relevant pull factor," which we will return to in a moment.

The conservative Popular Party (PP) also disputed the government's estimates, saying the true number could be double and calling the plan an "outrage." Sánchez, whom The Economist has called the leader of Europe's anti-Trump resistance, anticipating such criticism, wrote in a New York Times op-ed in January that "MAGA-style leaders may say that our country can't handle taking in so many migrants — that this is a suicidal move, the desperate act of a collapsing country."

Comment: Other than the snide swipe at Sanchez' support for Palestine, which may or may not be opportunistic, the article is correct. Spain is letting itself in for more trouble than it already has, and all the keep him in power. Poor Spain.

German swimming pool bans visitors who can't speak German, cites safety concerns

A public swimming pool in Germany has introduced strict new admission rules barring entry to anyone who cannot speak German, with management insisting the policy is essential to guarantee the safety of guests.

The Heidebad natural swimming pool in Halle, Saxony-Anhalt, now requires visitors to demonstrate German language skills before being allowed in. Managing Director Mathias Nobel defended the rule publicly, explaining that he is responsible for the safety of thousands of swimmers and will not compromise when it comes to protecting children and families.

The facility says that emergency alerts, water-depth warnings, and direct verbal instructions from lifeguards have repeatedly been ignored or misunderstood because of language barriers. In one recent emergency, Nobel, while acting as a lifeguard, had to pull a young child out of deep water due to a language barrier. To reduce these risks, staff will now deny entry to any guest if they determine that essential safety communication cannot be reliably established, according to German media outlet MDR.

Randi Whinegarten

Randi Weingarten
American Federation of Teachers President Randi Weingarten
The union boss continues to spew drivel, regards teachers as victims, and at the same time takes advantage of them.

Randi Weingarten, president of the American Federation of Teachers, wrote a hyperbolic piece titled "America's Teachers Can't Afford to Teach," which appeared in Time magazine on June 11.

The excessively whiny article is filled with half-truths meant to make readers feel sorry for impoverished, underpaid teachers. Among other things, she asserts that the vast majority of American educators are living paycheck to paycheck, taking on debt to buy groceries, and facing other financial hardships.

She maintains that the pay gap between "teachers and other college-educated professionals — known as the 'teacher pay penalty' — has grown to 27 percent. To put it plainly, people with the same level of education and experience can make far more doing almost anything other than teaching. We cannot accept this as an unfortunate reality or an accident."

Yet MORE churches torched; Sustained attack on Christianity gathers pace

Multiple churches on fire
© ModernityMultiple Christian Church fires, safe for centuries, these in the UK
France suffered another direct hit to its Christian heritage last week when two historic religious sites burned within hours of each other.

A 17th-century chapel in Brittany lost most of its roof and part of its framework, while a centuries-old cloister housing thousands of rare books in the southwest saw its library devastated.

These blazes fit a widening pattern of attacks on churches and sacred sites that shows no sign of slowing, even as the state claims it lacks funds for preservation while directing resources elsewhere.
