SOTT Focus: Interview With Jordan Peterson: On Trump, the Radical Left and Why Toxic Masculinity is Nonsense

What's a Canadian psychologist doing on the list of 50 people reshaping America? Jordan Peterson insists he is less a political thought leader than a personal and philosophical guide, one whose best-selling book offers tough-love advice to a population of restless young men who feel boxed out by modern gender politics.

Peterson's work has found fertile ground in the seemingly endless debate over "political correctness" and cultural reform writ large-and the professor hasn't shied away from the wider political arguments, either. He has dipped his toe into the argument over climate change, rhetorically mused over the fate of South African farmers in a seeming endorsement of Tucker Carlson's controversial segment on land expropriation, and appeared on "Fox & Friends" to warn parents against the dangers of liberal indoctrination on campus.

In the conflict between left and right, Peterson is clear about which side he blames more for the ills of the modern world. In a wide-ranging interview with Politico Magazine in July, Peterson sounded off on the dangers of university speech codes, the plight of young men and what critics get wrong about Donald Trump.

This interview has been condensed and lightly edited for clarity.

Saudi Arabia hands death sentence to Sunni cleric who criticized government on Twitter

Sheikh Salman al-Odah

A state prosecutor in Saudi Arabia has reportedly sought the death penalty for Salman al-Odah, a prominent Sunni scholar facing accusations of terrorism stemming from tweets deemed dangerous to the Saudi state.

On August 17, Abdullah al-Odah, the cleric's US-based son, wrote on Twitter that his father was being moved suddenly from a prison in the coastal city of Jeddah to the capital city, Riyadh. Abdullah indicated that a source in the prison had informed him of his father's impending secret trial.

Saudi state media announced Tuesday that "a person affiliated with a terrorist organisation" had been sentenced to death, but did not name Odah, Middle East Eye reported. His identity was confirmed to the publication by Saudi human rights activists.

Odah, 61, faces 37 charges, including "leading a terrorist group" and "inciting public opinion against the ruler," charges reportedly not declared at the beginning of the trial.

'Activist leader' unseats 20-year incumbent in Massachusetts primary

Ayanna Pressley is the second progressive woman of color to defeat a long-term male white incumbent this cycle.

Another major upset of a Democratic congressman took place in Massachusetts on Tuesday night. And it wasn't even close.

Ayanna Pressley, the 44-year-old Boston City Councilor, triumphed over 20-year incumbent Rep. Michael Capuano (D-MA) by a double-digit margin. It was the primary season's second stunning ousting of a long-term lawmaker by a female progressive challenger and another indicator that the liberal base is hungering for something new in their representation.

Massachusetts' 7th District, the only majority-minority district in the liberal state, once sent President John F. Kennedy to Congress and was viewed prior to Tuesday's contest as the kind of area that was ripe for a shakeup. Coupled with Pressley's compelling candidacy, a late primary the day after Labor Day, and district lines that were redrawn in 2011, Capuano was clearly vulnerable.

Comment: People now want a victim, or at least someone who flaunts being a victim as the most sensible choice for wielding power. How shameful. People who champion the victim mantle are dangerous. They should not be allowed near power since they obviously have not dealt with the disastrous results of victim-hood. Of course another side of this is that it is literally fashionable to be a SJW these days. Even Nike has gotten in on the act.

Donbass, Russia, and mainstream media lies

Donbass is the heart of Russia. 1921 poster.
Donbass is the heart of Russia. 1921 poster.
Putin Needs to Sacrifice the Donbass to Survive. (Not Really).

Or so some people seem to believe and hope.

So let's tally up these reasons:

The Russian economy is getting increasingly desperate.

Two percent GDP growth isn't anything to write home about, but neither is it particularly catastrophic. The budget is balanced, inflation is at record lows, Russia has $450 billion worth of foreign exchange reserves.

Short of major new sanctions or a sharp collapse in oil prices, growth should continue to pick up in the next few years.

Israel's psychopathic lack of remorse

Elor Azaria
Sgt. Elor Azaria receiving his conviction of manslaughter in an Israeli military court.
In an interview with a right-wing Israeli newspaper, Elor Azaria, said he had "no remorse whatsoever" for killing an incapacitated Palestinian in the occupied West Bank city of Hebron in 2016.

After an alleged stabbing attack against Israeli occupying soldiers, the young Palestinian man, Abd al Fattah Al-Sharif, had already been shot and was seriously wounded. He was lying motionless on the ground, surrounded by many Israeli soldiers. In the video of the murder documented by the Human Rights Defenders in Hebron and the Israeli human rights organization B'Tselem (warning: many viewers may find this video and the others below, to be disturbing), two other soldiers were closer to the wounded man, and it is clear they did not see him as a threat anymore.

Out of nowhere, Azaria cocks his weapon, aims at Al-Sharif, and fires one round into his head. A pool of blood begins to stream down the street. This was an extrajudicial execution, plain and simple. Again, the man was motionless and posed absolutely no clear and present danger, which is why the two soldiers who were standing close to Al-Sharif were not expecting anyone to fire at him, as is visible by their reactions.

Elon Musk triples down on 'pedo' claims, calls Thai cave rescuer 'child rapist'

Elon Musk wrote that he "hopes" to get sued by Vernon Unsworth, once again accusing the 63-year-old British diver - who played a key role in the rescue of a Thai youth football team from a cave - of being a "child rapist."

"I suggest that you call people you know in Thailand, find out what's actually going on and stop defending child rapists, you f**king asshole," Musk reportedly wrote in a letter to BuzzFeed, without offering evidence to substantiate his claims. "He's an old, single white guy from England who's been traveling to or living in Thailand for 30 to 40 years, mostly Pattaya Beach, until moving to Chiang Rai for a child bride who was about 12 years old at the time."

Musk's accusations against the British diver, who pinpointed the location of 12 boys inside the flooded Tham Luang cave complex back in July, started with Unsworth's rejection of the billionaire's proposal to use a mini-submarine in the narrow passageways. After calling the Brit a "pedo guy," Musk quickly deleted his tweet and issued an apology, after the Brit threatened a lawsuit.

As the British diver and cave explorer prepares for the legal battle against the billionaire over "false and defamatory statements," Musk says he is ready to accept the challenge. "As for this alleged threat of a lawsuit, which magically appeared when I raised the issue (nothing was sent or raised beforehand), I f**king hope he sues me," Musk told the publication.

Meanwhile, Unsworth's attorney, L. Lin Wood, said that Musk's accusations are nothing more than "vindictive and vicious" lies. "After deleting the initial accusation and tweeting an apology, Mr Musk has continued to republish his false and unsupportable accusation. His conduct demonstrates that his recklessness is intentional and designed to harm Mr. Unsworth," Wood said.

Flashback Why I Stand With Julian Assange

Julian Assange

"Perhaps as an old man I will take great comfort in pottering around in a lab and gently talking to students in the summer evening and will accept suffering with insouciance. But not now; men in their prime, if they have convictions, are tasked to act on them." - Julian Assange
At events around the world today, people from different countries with different political perspectives attended rallies and spoke up to say that Julian Assange must be freed.

Assange must be freed because he is being punished for the sin of revealing the truth about those who hold the reins of power.

The WikiLeaks exposure of the Democratic National Committee's inner machinations should have had implications that extended far beyond the 2016 election.

German authorities drop case of 10yo Afghan boy who raped classmate

German authorities have dropped a case in which a 10-year-old Afghan boy raped a classmate during a school trip while Syrian and Afghan accomplices held him down, as the perpetrators are apparently not old enough to be tried.

The incident began when 38 students from a Berlin school went on a field trip to Schloss Kröchlendorff, a castle in Nordwestuckermark, Germany. The students were supposed to have a fun day out enjoying nature - but that wasn't possible for everyone.

The day turned horrific for a 10-year-old boy, who was told by the perpetrators: "We f**k you today!" A total of three boys ganged up on the victim; an Afghan and a Syrian, both aged 11, held him down while a 10-year-old Afghan boy sexually abused and raped him, according to the Berliner Zeitung.

Black South African farmer pleads with parliament to drop land seizure plans

Confiscating lands from white farmers for redistribution among the country's black majority won't produce the desired result, as it won't give black farmers access to commercial markets, a black farmer warns.

Ramodisa Monaisa spoke at parliamentary hearings on land reform to urge the government not to amend the constitution to allow land expropriation without compensation. "You will give us land and you will render us useless," said Monaisa, as quoted by a South African weekly newspaper The Mail & Guardian.

Monaisa has been cultivating the land owned by the department of rural development for 15 years and says he knows what it means to be a black farmer in South Africa. The government body made it possible for Monaisa to start his farming business, but he is reportedly able to employ just one person on his farm.

Comment: New investment invariably dries up in conditions of uncertainty. RT further highlights the turmoil created by South Africa's ill-thought-out policy.
Massive declines in the agricultural, transport and retail sectors have dragged the South African economy into recession after nearly a decade of growth. It is a huge blow to President Ramaphosa's controversial reforms.

GDP in the second quarter contracted by 0.7 percent compared to the first three months of the current year. South African national currency, the rand, extended declines against the US dollar to more than two percent as government bonds fell after the released data.

"We are in a recession," Statistician-General Risenga Maluleke said, commenting on the reports that reflect two consecutive quarters of contraction.

According to Statistics South Africa, agricultural production declined by 29.2 percent, while the transport, communication and storage sector dropped 4.9 percent. At the same time, mining output grew by 4.9 percent and finance by 1.9 percent.

The news is expected to increase concerns over the weakening rand, along with plans for a widely-debated land reform and negative after-effects triggered by state corruption under former president Jacob Zuma.

South African national currency plummeted under the pressure of emerging market jitters in Turkey and Argentina. It is expected to get worse amid investors' deep concerns about a government push for land reform that may have far-reaching economic consequences.

A draft proposal to confiscate white-owned farms and redistribute land to address racial inequalities was withdrawn for further study. However, the ruling African National Congress (ANC) has reaffirmed its commitment to the plan.

"This economy remains in the doldrums, that we are in desperate need for policy certainty and structural reform to get us onto a growth path," Elize Kruger, an economist at Paarl, South Africa-based NKC African Economics, told Bloomberg.

"This type of environment is difficult for job creation. We'll get stuck in our low-growth term if we can't get out of this."

Question

Why can't we just leave Syria alone?

Assad was supposed to be gone already. President Obama thought it would be just another "regime change" operation and perhaps Assad would end up like Saddam Hussein or Yanukovych. Or maybe even Gaddafi. But he was supposed to be gone. The US spent billions to get rid of him and even provided weapons and training to the kinds of radicals that attacked the United States on 9/11.

But with the help of his allies, Assad has nearly defeated this foreign-sponsored insurgency.

The US fought him every step of the way. Each time the Syrian military approached another occupied city or province, Washington and its obedient allies issued the usual warnings that Assad was not liberating territory but was actually seeking to kill more of his own people.

Comment: There's too much at stake for the Empire to give up hopes of retaining hegemony in such a strategically placed country like Syria. Not to mention protecting Israeli interests.
