German military helicopter crash kills pilot, Indian MP's flight spins wildly out of control

heicopter
One of the two pilots was killed, the German Defense Ministry said in a statement. The government and armed forces have been plagued by aging equipment, prompting calls for a complete overhaul of its military hardware.

A military helicopter crashed near the northern city of Hanover, the German armed forces said on Monday.

The Bunderwehr confirmed that one of the pilots was killed while the other is in the hospital. Authorities have yet to determine the cause of the crash.

"Our thoughts, our grief, our sympathies are with the relatives of the pilot," German Defense Minister Ursula von der Leyen said during a visit to the crash site.

Comment: Another aviation tragedy was narrowly averted yesterday when a helicopter briefly lost control while carrying an Indian MP:

Helpless onlookers watched in terror as a helicopter carrying Indian politician Mahant Balaknath spun wildly out of control mere meters off the ground.

The MP was travelling from Delhi to Alwar and attempted to land at Ladpur village in Kotkasim around 10.30am Sunday when the unthinkable happened.

The quick-thinking pilot managed to regain control of the aircraft and avoid disaster. Authorities blamed a combination of strong air pressure and an uneven helipad for the incident.

Balaknath's pilot attempted a landing at a nearby village but was unsuccessful there as well and was forced to return to Delhi. The MP eventually traveled to his destination by road.

And these events come on the heels of a number of other aviation disasters and near misses. Below is just a selection of those that have happened in the last few months: But this disturbing trend has been on the rise for years. For more on the possible causes, see:

Best of the Web: Pathetic: NBC accused of putting a fake pimple on Rep. Tulsi Gabbard during Dem debate

tulsi gabbard fake zit
The team over at NBC appears to have taken their 'Mean Girls' style disdain for Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to new levels — by adding a fake blemish to her face on live television.

The disappearing pimple was first reported on by TMZ, and Rep. Gabbard's press assistant tweeted a video and thank you note to them for covering it.

"The Congresswoman from Hawaii was talking foreign policy during the debate — specifically the possibility of America going to war with Iran. Important stuff, no doubt. However, as Gabbard spoke many viewers focused on her chin and what appeared to be a tiny zit — nothing that would require Dr. Pimple Popper or anything, but still ... it was there," TMZ reported. "Then it happened. Seriously, if you haven't seen it ... YOU MUST. Within a matter of seconds the blemish simply vanished ... AS Tulsi was talking!!! Remember, this is on a close-up camera, ON live television."

Comment: First NBC gets accused of turning off candidate's microphones during the debate, and now this. It seems the outlet has clear favourites and are rather unabashed in playing petty and dirty tricks to give them advantages. God forbid anyone be required to win debates based on their merit and ability. At least Gabbard seems to be taking it with poise and humor. Update from TMZ:
10:39 AM PDT -- Rep. Gabbard joined us on TMZ Live and says the red dot wasn't on her chin at all on Wednesday ... and she has no idea what the spot could have been. She's clearly not concerned about it and is ready for the rest of her campaign.

All 10 people aboard a plane that crashed into a hangar at Addison Airport in Addison, Texas, Sunday morning have died, according to an official with the National Transportation Safety Board.

A twin-engine Beechcraft BE-350 King Air crashed just after 9 a.m. Sunday, killing two crew members and eight passengers on board, NTSB Vice Chair Bruce Landsberg said.

The Federal Aviation Administration said the plane had just taken off for St. Petersburg, Florida, when it crashed into the private hangar. There was no one inside the hangar at the time of the crash, but two aircraft, a helicopter and a jet were damaged, Landsberg said.

Comment: The number of plane crashes seems to be unusually high these days:

Socialism in action: French civil servants paid millions to do NOTHING for 25 years

Imagine turning up at work every day and doing absolutely nothing. Or better yet, staying at home and doing nothing and still getting paid. The dream is a reality for 30 French civil servants.

French taxpayers have been spending more than €1 million per year to pay the salaries of 30 so-called "phantom" bureaucrats in the southern city of Toulon, a report by the Provence-Alps-Riviera Regional Audit Office, seen by local newspaper Var-Matin, revealed.

One of these ghosts picked up his state paycheck while simultaneously working a managerial job in the private sector, while all 30 received promotions and pay increases based on seniority, despite not working for more than 25 years.

Best of the Web: Conservative snowflake Andy Ngo can't handle a peaceful beating

antifa
Right-wing possible Nazi collaborator (I have no real evidence of this, but I wouldn't be surprised if he was) Andy Ngo was 'attacked' at the Portland rally on Saturday. For those unaware, Andy Ngo is a so-called 'journalist' who is apparently well-known for aggravating situations by attending political events armed with his fascist GoPro camera and 'reporting' what happens. Now, if this isn't an act of right-wing terrorism, I do not know what is.
andy ngo
Mr Ngo supposedly sustained 'injuries' after a small group of around 25 or so noble Antifa comrades bravely surrounded him and peacefully protested by throwing objects at his head. The subsequent outcry from the alt-right has been depressingly predictable. Ironically, their cries of 'Free speech!' appear to melt away like snowflakes on a George Foreman Grill the moment a few dozen freedom-fighting activists decide to exercise their free speech by spraying someone with silly string (and possibly punching them and throwing cement-laced milkshakes at him) for publicly expressing violently toxic opinions. It seems they believe it perfectly acceptable for them to cause irreparable damage to vulnerable people by disagreeing with them or saying mean things, but when Antifa retaliate with a tiny bit of physical assault (I've read reports that Andy Ngo has suffered a brain bleed, but it's most likely an exaggeration), they get all upset. Such hypocrisy. The double-standards of these precious little fascists would have me chuckling all day long if it wasn't for the fact I have PTSD from them calling me a 'fragile millennial' almost every day on Twitter.

Hong Kong: Protesters smash council building windows, police respond to the riot

Violent protests engulfed Hong Kong early on Monday morning as thousands faced off with riot police on the anniversary of the territory's return to Chinese rule amid ever-growing anger over a controversial extradition bill.

In footage posted online, police are seen rushing a line of protesters who formed a wall of umbrellas in an attempt to shelter from pepper spray deployed by law enforcers. Several people were later seen lying on the ground.

In a separate incident, protesters used a metal trolley to try and storm Hong Kong's Legislative Council building. They smashed the windows in an attempt to get inside, but were stopped by riot police armed with batons. Parts of Hong Kong were also paralyzed as protesters occupied roads, blocking them with metal barriers.

This year's 22nd anniversary of Hong Kong's 1997 handover from Britain to China comes amid ongoing tensions, which have rocked the city since the end of March.

In the past three weeks, more than a million people took part in demonstrations to oppose Hong Kong's Beijing-backed Chief Executive Carrie Lam and her decision to pass an extradition bill that would allow people to be sent to mainland China for trial in courts controlled by the Communist Party. Despite the fact that Lam has already announced an indefinite suspension of the controversial bill, people continue to demonstrate and are now demanding Lam's resignation.

Rent is now unaffordable for many US workers

Map Affordability
© Unknown
The National Low Income Housing Coalition has published its latest "Out of Reach" report which shows that renting is becoming increasingly unaffordable for countless Americans.

Its central statistic is the Housing Wage which is an estimate of the hourly wage a full-time worker must earn to rent a home without spending more than 30 percent of his or her income on housing costs. As Statista's Niall McCarthy notes, for 2019, the Housing Wage is $22.96 and $18.65 for a modest two and one-bedroom flat respectively based on the "fair market rent".

A worker earning the federal wage would have to put in 127 hours every week - equivalent to more than two full-time jobs - to afford a two-bedroom apartment. It isn't just a regional issue - there isn't a single state, metro area or county in the U.S. where a full-time worker earning the minimum wage can afford to rent a two-bedroom property.

It isn't just workers on the minimum wage who are effected.

Flashback Damore lawsuit highlights Google's support and links to 'Antifa' domestic terrorists

Antifa thug crowd
© Reuters
In addition to allegedly showing intimidation of conservatives, racist and sexist attitudes, and a paranoia about right-wing thinkers, the class action lawsuit brought by ex-employees James Damore and David Gudeman against Google also accuses the company of turning a blind eye to support for the violent "Antifa" movement from its employees.

Antifa is an umbrella term that describes the most radical and violent elements of the grassroots left. Antifa blocs have reportedly been involved in numerous acts of political violence in the first year of Trump's administration, most notably in Berkeley, California. Antifa-linked groups were also responsible for widespread damage to property, acts of violence, and general lawlessness at the G20 summit in Germany last year. The Antifa movement has been condemned by House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and has been classified as domestic terrorists by U.S. security agencies.

Comment: More evidence of the general mental derangement of the Google corporate culture. It's frightening to think how much power is in the hands of these lunatics. What Google employees support: Yet, ironically: Antifa is the moral equivalent of neo-Nazis
