'Defund the police' is not the policy of the Democratic Party, Pelosi says

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said Sunday that the idea of defunding the police, a frequently used slogan during the 2020 elections, is not the direction that the Democratic Party is headed.

Pelosi said on ABC's This Week:
"Make no mistake, community safety is our responsibility. I quote one of my colleagues from New York, Ritchie Torres, a brand new member of Congress way on the left, saying that 'defund the police' is dead. That causes a concern with a few in our caucus. But public safety is our responsibility."
Host George Stephanopoulos noted that rising crime was a major concern of Americans these days and cited divisions within the party on law enforcement, referring to Missouri Rep. Cori Bush as someone backing the idea of defunding the police.

Pelosi responded:
"That's not the position of the Democratic Party, with all due respect to Cori Bush. Community safety to protect and defend in every way is our oath of office."

Comment: Straight answers from Pelosi? Perhaps not:

Germany reveals end date for most Covid restrictions - reports

German officials are set to end the majority of remaining government Covid restrictions in March, amid decreasing coronavirus infections, according to a draft plan reported by news agency AFP on Monday.

"Broad restrictions of social, cultural, and economic life should be gradually lifted by the start of spring on March 20, 2022," the draft document reportedly suggests. It is set to be formally approved by federal and state leaders on Wednesday.

Chancellor Olaf Scholz indicated on Friday that Covid restrictions would begin to be relaxed when the government and federal states meet on February 16, as "the peak of the wave is in sight." However, at that time he didn't reveal what date specifically that that might happen.

Comment: France said similar things recently and so far they have only relaxed restrictions for the vaccinated, so let's wait and see.

Police confirmed that they were behind the damage caused to vehicles on private land in Coutts, Alberta.

Truckers who are protesting all COVID-19 mandates in Coutts, Alberta were surprised to learn that police sabotaged some of their vehicles.

Three excavator vehicles were parked on private land with permission from the owner.

RCMP had allegedly asked the owners to move the vehicles so they wouldn't be visible from the highway. The owners obliged, and sometime after moving the vehicles found the damage.

Comment: How low the RCMP have fallen.

Flashback Winnipeg Freedom Convoy hit and run suspect identified as Antifa member

andy ngo
The suspect arrested over the car-ramming attack against the "Freedom Convoy" protesters in Winnipeg, Canada is an Antifa member with a long history of far-left militantism in Manitoba. David Alexander Zegarac, 42, of Headingley, Man., allegedly sped off to try and escape after the attack on Feb. 4, 2022, which injured four people. He ran multiple lights and resisted arrest when he was finally caught around 40 minutes later.

Zegarac was the frontman of the antifa punk band Brat Attack until the record label dropped the group because of multiple accusations of sexual assault against Zegarac in 2015. One of the accusers said she was only 13 when he groomed her and raped her. [Link: https://web.archive.org/web/20150711070009/https://gaslight-retreat.tumblr.com/post/122738519912/trigger-warning]

Comment: Rebel News reports:
Zegarac's Wikipedia page is now deleted, but an archived version is still available which links back to several web pages detailing Zegarac's politics.

His online bio states that his song lyrics deal primarily with anarchist politics and that he is an outspoken vegan and a long-time anti-racist activist. A feature on Zegarac in the now defunct alternative online publication The Scope published in April 2008 noted Zegarac's radical left-wing activism:
The Applecart Collective is officially kicking off with a series of band shows for International Workers' Day — more commonly known as May Day — featuring acts like Skull Face And Others, Are You Phobic, Adam Baxter, and Devastator.

Back in Davey Zegarac's hometown of Winnipeg, there are massive protests in the streets every year, an actively political punk-rock scene, and a sizeable community of anarchists. So it's not hard to see why he feels a bit restless here in St. John's.

"I was surprised by the lack of activists when I got here. I get the gist that maybe Newfoundland is more community-oriented than Winnipeg. I mean, in Winnipeg there's a greater division between the haves and the have-nots," said Zegarac.

They plan to organize band shows, distribute progressive literature, produce a zine, show films, host workshops, and maybe even start a lending library.

And since there's no such thing as hierarchy in anarchism, people can be involved any way they want — from contributing to the zine, to pursuing more radical activism.

Flashback A dozen US cities set annual murder records with three weeks left in 2021

At least 12 major US cities have already set historical murder records in 2021, even as three weeks remain in the year.

Philadelphia, the nation's sixth largest city, recorded 523 murders as of Dec. 7, surpassing its formal grim milestone of 500 murders, which was set in 1990, police data showed.

The City of Brotherly Love had recorded significantly more murders in 2021 than New York City's 443, despite having approximately six times fewer residents.

"It's terrible to every morning get up and have to go look at the numbers and then look at the news and see the stories. It's just crazy. It's just crazy and this needs to stop," Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney, a Democrat, reportedly said after his city broke its own infamous benchmark.

Ya think? Penn State research finds Antifa presence at protests 'greatly increased the risk of violence'

portland riots antifa 2020
© Nathan Howard/Getty ImagesPortland has become a factory of political radicalism, the culminating expression of which is violence — as seen in the ongoing riots and street battles during the summer of 2020.
A report on Antifa was published in The Washington Post — conducted by a team of researchers that analyzed Black Lives Matter and Antifa protests — that found that Antifa's presence at such events "greatly increased the risk of violence."

Two sociology academics at Penn State analyzed data on the 2020 civil unrest and concluded the presence of Antifa at an event made violence much more likely.

The research found that Antifa's appearance at racial justice protests saw higher numbers of injuries and property damages than protests where they didn't appear.

Police move in to clear trucker protesters from key US-Canada crossing

Ambassador Bridge protest police

Canadian police moved on Saturday morning to clear protesters blocking most traffic on the Ambassador Bridge, a vital trade artery connecting Windsor, Ontario with Detroit, Mich.

"The Windsor Police & its policing partners have commenced enforcement at and near the Ambassador Bridge. We urge all demonstrators to act lawfully & peacefully," the Windsor Police announced on its Twitter account. "Commuters are still being asked to avoid the areas affected by the demonstrations at this time."

Comment: An update from South China Morning Post:
13 Feb, 2022

President Joe Biden has asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to use federal powers to end the blockade of the Ambassador Bridge, North America's busiest land border crossing. Since Monday, protesters in trucks, cars and vans have blocked traffic in both directions, choking the supply chain for Detroit's carmakers.

Despite a court order to end the occupation and a state of emergency imposed by the province of Ontario, home to the city of Windsor, police have failed to disperse the crowd and resume cross-border traffic.

Police moved in early on Saturday, pushing protesters back from the foot of the bridge, but more people streamed into the area in the afternoon and the operation appeared to have stalled. Late on Saturday, Windsor Police arrested a 27-year old man for a criminal offence in relation to the demonstration.

"I am very hopeful still that police can ... try and get to these folks in a reasonable way and have them understand that it's time to move on," Windsor Mayor Drew Dilkens told CBC News. "We can no longer afford as a country to keep it closed."

The bridge carries about US$360 million a day in two-way cargoes - 25 per cent of the value of all US-Canada goods trade.

Concrete barricades have been set up in front of the police near the bridge to keep protesters from reclaiming any ground.

In the west, hundreds of protesters choked intersections along the Pacific Highway with vehicles leading to the Canada-US border crossing in South Surrey, British Columbia. Several, camped out near the border crossing, vowed to stay "as long as is needed" until all Covid-19 restrictions are lifted.

Strangling bilateral trade, protests have spread to three border points, including in Alberta and Manitoba.

Canadian police have said the protests have been partly funded by US supporters, and Ontario froze funds donated via one US platform GiveSendGo on Thursday.

Ford Motor Co, the second-largest US carmaker, General Motors Co and Toyota Motor Corp all have announced production cuts. Companies have diverted cargo to stem losses during the cuts.

The estimated loss so far from the blockades to the auto industry alone could be as high as US$850 million, based on IHS Markit's data, which puts the 2021 daily flow in vehicles and parts at US$141.1 million a day.

"This is the busiest border crossing, so it's not just automotive," Mayor Dilkens said. "We are talking about things that impact the entire nation here. That's why finding a resolution is so important."
And there you have the real reason for needing "resolution" even if it comes at the end of a police baton. The elites are losing money.

Joe Rogan: The weird new definition of 'right-winger'

Joe rogan

Beyond the left/right binary.

In a widely shared Sunday tweet, journalist Matthew Sheffield asserted that controversial podcaster Joe Rogan "overwhelmingly" favors "right-wingers" as guests. Rogan has been at the center of multiple outrage cycles recently (even the White House has been weighing in), with many progressives — including musicians like Neil Young — attempting to get the audio platform Spotify to cancel his contract. Proving that he's some sort of right-wing nutjob has been a major thread in all this.

Rogan and his supporters insist that he's simply open-minded and likes to talk to people from across the political spectrum — and a quick glance at some of his repeat guests would certainly suggest this.

Liberal actress Amy Schumer has been on Rogan's show four times, while Trump-loving actress Roseanne Barr has been on three times. Liberal director Kevin Smith has been a guest (four times), as has conservative rocker Ted Nugent (three times). Sex advice columnist and podcaster Dan Savage, Cenk Uygur of the left political show The Young Turks, whistleblower and civil liberties advocate Edward Snowden, and former U.S. Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-Hawaii) have all been on Rogan's show. As have conservative commentators and entertainers like Ben Shapiro, Candace Owens, and Alex Jones.

Ireland has dumped half-a-million expired vaccines since Christmas, Health Minister kindly offers to 'donate' some to the developing world

pfizer
More than 500,000 Covid-19 vaccines expired between Christmas and the end of January, with health officials expecting tens of thousands more to go out of date this month.

Comment: This reveals just how wrong their forecasts were, and not just the quantity of vaccines needed, but the threat that the relatively harmless coronavirus itself posed.

The HSE said its vaccination sites, including GPs, pharmacies and mass vaccination centres, ordered high volumes of vaccines as part of the accelerated booster programme in the run-up to Christmas in a bid to mitigate the Omicron wave.

Comment: It was known that Omicron was mild, and by this point that the vaccines were basically useless, and even harmful for the vast majority, so there never was any data supporting the purchase of these jabs. One might call it a racket.

However, the high volumes of vaccines ordered coincided with record high case numbers, which left hundreds of thousands of people ineligible for a booster dose. Anyone who has had Covid-19 since they were vaccinated has to wait at least three months after a positive test result to avail of a booster dose.

Comment: It's now being admitted that natural infection provides superior protection, meaning vaccination for those who've developed natural immunity is highly unnecessary. However this was known very early on so there's still no justification for purchasing all these these jabs: Natural immunity IS more powerful than vaccines, another study

The HSE privately estimates that more than 500,000 people are currently ineligible for the booster dose as they had the Omicron strain over Christmas and New Year, and must now wait until March.

Comment: Country's are going into significant debt over a vaccine they didn't need - as evidenced by the sheer numbers now being dumped, by countries across the planet - meanwhile pharmaceutical companies are posting record breaking profits, politicians have benefited from their dodgy PPE deals, and, thanks to lockdowns, citizens suffer the worst hit to their livelihoods in living memory.

It's perhaps not a surprise that metrics measuring well being and health of the average person are down pretty much across the board: Also check out SOTT radio's:

I spoke to close to 100 protesters and didn't find a single insurrectionist, white supremacist, racist or misogynist

Freedom Convoy

A version of this article first appeared on Common Sense

For two weeks, the 18-wheelers, the semis, the tractors and the pick-up trucks streamed through the snow and ice into the center of Ottawa, the Canadian capital.

They came from across the country. Vaxxed, unvaxxed, white, black, Chinese, Sikh, Indian, alone or with their wives and kids.

They huddled around campfires. They set up pop-up kitchens and tents with block captains doling out coffee and blankets.

They honked (and honked and honked). They blasted 'We Are the World.' And everywhere you looked, someone was waving the Maple Leaf.

It dipped to 4 degrees. The mayor declared a state of emergency. And they didn't budge.

The truckers were scared of running out of gas — freezing to death in their little truck beds in the middle of the night. The city threatened to arrest anyone who brought it to them.

In response, hundreds of Ottawans did just that. The truckers stayed put.
