Propaganda alert: 'Russian bots' helping Americans expose their own corrupt government

Devin Nunes
Republican lawmakers are pushing for the House Intelligence Committee to release a memo written by the panel's chairman, Rep. Devin Nunes, that outlines purported surveillance against then President-elect Donald Trump by former President Barack Obama's administration during the transition period.

And Russia-linked Twitter bots have jumped on the bandwagon.

Comment: The more the Deep State pushes its egregious lies, the more people turn away from their propaganda outlets. Eventually, and probably in the not too distant future, they'll only be talking to themselves and the people whose brains have been melted by believing their lies.

Tom Fitton, the president of conservative watchdog group Judicial Watch, on Saturday called the Federal Bureau of Investigation's probe into whether the Trump campaign colluded with Russia, "corruption at its worst."

Speaking at the South Carolina Tea Party Coalition's 6th Anniversary Convention, Fitton said the "unelected bureaucracy" in the Justice Department and the FBI - in some cases, political appointees of the Obama administration, were "breaking the rules to bring down a duly-elected president," and violating laws "beyond what Richard Nixon ever contemplated."

"Nothing in recent American history compares to what we think we know," he said.

Comment: Both the FBI and the DOJ are particularly nasty sections of the Swamp.

Kurds choose the losing side once more: US strategy fails as Turks attack Afrin, Syria

After negotiations between Russia/Syria and the Kurds of Afrin had failed, the Russian side made a deal with Turkey. Now Turkey attacks Afrin while everyone else looks aside. The main impetus for this development was the announcement of a U.S. occupation in north-east Syria with the help of the Kurdish YPG/PKK. The occupation strategy is already failing. The Kurds made the false choice. They will be the losers of this game.

We had wrongly predicted that Turkish threats against the Kurdish held north-west area of Afrin were empty:
The threat is not serious:
  • ...
  • Afrin is under formal protection of Russian and Syrian forces.
  • The real danger to Turkey is not Afrin but the much larger Kurdish protectorate the U.S. publicly announced in north-east Syria.
The Turkish threats and its artillery noise have led to counter noise from Syria and more silent advice from Russia. The Syrian government wants to show that it is the protector of all Syrian citizens be they ethnic Arabs or Kurds. Russia is proud of its role as the grown up who is calming down all sides.
Turkey is now attacking the Afrin canton in full force. With help from one George Orwell the operation was dubbed "Olive Branch"

Comment: As Dan Glazebrook put it today to RT, the U.S. managed to "completely betray" both its allies here: Turkey and the Kurds:
"First, betrayal of Turkey - announcing this Border Security Force, made up primarily of Kurds, without any consultation with Turkey. And then, as soon as Turkey makes an issue of it, immediately drop the Kurds altogether, saying 'we have nothing to do with them' and basically give Turkey a free hand to slaughter them. Betrayals left, right and center," he added.

"I hope that the rest of the world really is paying attention that there is absolutely nothing to be gained from offering yourself up to carry out the bidding of empire, as Turkey is learning a very hard way right now and so are the Kurds, actually," Glazebrook pointed out.

Press Secretary Peskov on marathon press conferences: 'Of course Putin gets nervous, he is human'

Putin press conference

Vladimir Putin's long-serving press secretary Dmitry Peskov has revealed the Russian president "gets more nervous than anyone" before his marathon live Q&A sessions, and said the president's trademark responses are "improvised."

Peskov was asked about the traditional end-of-year press conference, in which Putin spends hours fielding questions from domestic and international journalists on a dizzying array of global and localized issues, and acknowledged that "few sleep well the night before."

"The person who gets more nervous than anyone, I feel, is Putin himself," said Peskov, who moderated the 3 hour 40 minute session in December, as in previous years.

Peskov said he used to "live in fear of the president being put on the spot."

"There are no difficult questions for Putin," Peskov told Rossiya 1 channel. "Maybe I find them uncomfortable, but he easily deals with everything that he is asked about."

Impasse: Abbas dismisses US in peace process; Netanyahu won't accept substitute

Abbas/Net

Donald Trump's recognition of Jerusalem as the Israeli capital on December 6 drove a stake through the heart of the two-state peace process, which envisions East Jerusalem as the capital of the future Palestinian state along 1967 borders.

Following Trump's declaration, Abbas, the chief Palestinian negotiator in previous talks, repeatedly dismissed the US as a trusted mediator in the peace process. Israel, unsurprisingly, continues to place its trust in the White House.

"If Abbas doesn't want the US, then he doesn't want peace," Netanyahu told journalists on his return from India Friday. "There is no substitute for the United States."

Comment: The manipulative twist and conflation of Abbas' statement. The only reason Israel needs the U.S. is because every other country knows Israel is an apartheid shit-hole. The Israel bribe-and-blackmail lobby may work in the U.S., but with the other big world powers? Not so much.

Palestinians continue to reject the American role in the peace process because the new American course of action has so far only led to deadly violence across the Palestinian occupied territory, Abbas said. "We will not trust the American administration which is no longer suitable for the role of mediator of the peace process. We will adhere to peace, but peace shall not be at any cost, and we will seek all options but not terrorism and violence," Abbas in Cairo Wednesday.

"The announcement by US President [Donald] Trump to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel would not give Israel any legitimacy in it," Abbas continued, as quoted by WAFA news. "America chose to violate international law and defy the will of the Arab and Islamic peoples and the world to recognize Jerusalem as the capital of the Israeli occupation."

Comment: Israel has brainwashed Washington from the inside out. Without the US, Israel is a belligerent cry-baby and a very small country.

Update: Netanyahu reiterated his demand today:
"I have a message to Abu Mazen [Abbas' pseudonym]. There cannot be a replacement of the leading role of the United States in the political process. The one, who does not want to discuss peace with the US side, does not want peace," Netanyahu said at the meeting with Israeli ambassadors.
"Only the U.S. gives us what we want, therefore we will only accept the U.S. as a mediator."

Israel's hidden propaganda war, hidden impacts

Prime Minister Benyamin Netanyahu was in a triumphant mood last week. His coalition has managed to pass a few controversial laws and his government was about approve its record high budget for 2019: 400 billion Shekel ($117bn).

"Israel finds itself in an unprecedented phase of political might, economic might and military might and it changes the country beyond recognition," he said in a speech at an economic conference in Jerusalem on Thursday.

As with every politician, there was a certain amount of bragging in Netanyahu's words. Yet it cannot be denied that Israel looks good in numbers. Its economy grew three percent in 2017, its exports passed the $100bn mark for the first time and the exports of Israeli high-tech companies have more than doubled to a record of $23bn. Israel's GDP per capita has passed the $40,000 bar, higher than France. Only 10 years ago it stood at $25,000 per capita.

Yet early in the same week in which Netanyahu delivered his jubilant speech, his government announced new measures again the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions (BDS) movement: it prohibited activists from several allegedly pro-BDS organisations from entering Israel. If Israel's economy is going so well, what has it to fear from a boycott movement which does not seem to have had any real effect so far?

Comment: If Israel is doing so well financially, why is the US still subsidizing it?

Clinton ally Tom Steyer criticizes lawmakers for failure to impeach Trump, 'cringe-worthy' video

Steyer

It appears Billionaire Clintonite Tom Steyer is surprised that the nationwide ad campaign he bankrolled to urge members of Congress to impeach President Trump hasn't yielded results by now.

Steyer went off on both Republicans and Democrats Friday after a House vote on articles of impeachment garnered a paltry 66 votes.

"This vote is not a reflection of whether or not Trump has passed the threshold for impeachment, which he did months ago," Steyer said Friday in a press statement after the vote. "It is a failure by members of Congress to do what's right to keep the American people safe."

Steyer, a billionaire former hedge fund manager from liberal California, launched his 'Need to Impeach' movement in October of 2017. While more than four million people have signed his petition, Democrats aren't particularly happy with the initiative. Democratic leaders believe pushing for impeachment could hurt their party's chances in the midterms later this year. Steyer underscored his campaign by sending copies of Michael Wolff's book Fire and Fury to every lawmaker.

First day of government shutdown ends locked in a standoff

Manstormbranches

President Donald Trump and Republican lawmakers were locked in a standoff with Democrats on Saturday over the U.S. government shutdown, with Republicans saying they would not negotiate on immigration until the government is reopened.

Funding for federal agencies ran out at midnight with no agreement in Congress, meaning the second year of Trump's presidency began without a fully functioning government.

Democrats stuck to demands that any short-term spending legislation must include protections for young undocumented immigrants known as "Dreamers." Republicans in turn said they would not negotiate on immigration until Democrats gave them the votes needed to reopen the government.

U.S. government workers were told to stay home or, in some cases, work without pay until new funding is approved in the first federal government shutdown since a 16-day funding lapse in October 2013.

The Republican-controlled Senate and House of Representatives held rare weekend sessions on Saturday, facing a political crisis that could affect November congressional elections. By about 7 p.m. both chambers resigned themselves to failure and agreed to resume work on Sunday.

Both Republicans and Democrats had dug in during the day, each side blaming the other.

Comment: Negotiations between the Dems and Reps are stuck in the mud and going nowhere...as usual. Cue the rhetoric. Failure is failure - there are no degrees, no excuses.

US weapons to loyal groups in Syria triggered Turkey's military operation against Kurds

The Russian Army Command in Syria is undertaking security measures for personnel present in Afrin, after the launch of the Turkish military operation against Kurdish forces.

The Russian Ministry of Defense stated that the Pentagon's arms supplies to US-backed groups in Syria triggered Turkey's military operation in Afrin and undermined the peace process. The Ministry added that the US has undermined the process of political settlement of the Syrian crisis and impeded the Geneva peace talks.

"Uncontrolled deliveries of modern weapons, including reportedly the deliveries of the man-portable air defense systems, by the Pentagon to the pro-US forces in northern Syria, have contributed to the rapid escalation of tensions in the region and resulted in the launch of a special operation by the Turkish troops."

Russian Embassy in Turkey confirmed to Sputnik that the Turkish Foreign Ministry had summoned the Russian ambassador to inform him about the beginning of the military operation in Afrin. "We can confirm the fact of summoning. We have received information from the Turkish foreign service for passing it on to the Russian authorities," the embassy's spokeswoman Irina Kasimova said.

Comment: Is the US (Israel) baiting Turkey to keep the war going by the creation of its border security force utilizing the YPG? Or did Turkey just need an excuse?
