Cultural genocide? Ukrainian region bans Russian language songs, films, books... and more

A region in western Ukraine has decided to ban public displays of pretty much anything in Russian, claiming the move is necessary to preserve unity in the country. The authors want the ban to go nationwide.

The Lvov region's legislature voted on Tuesday to impose a moratorium on the "public use of Russian-language cultural products in all forms," with 58 votes in favor, exceeding the 43 necessary.

The "moratorium" is to remain in place until there is "a full de-occupation of Ukrainian territory," practically making it a permanent ban.

In addition to banning Russian songs, films, books and... whatever else, the lawmakers said they would recommend a similar ban to the national parliament. They said rooting out the Russian language was necessary "to protect the Ukrainian information space from hybrid action by the aggressor-state [Russia] and reverse the consequences of many years of Russification."

Comment: Just imagine if the language in question was Hebrew, or Yiddish...

The ban is the latest in a long string of attacks on the Russian language in Ukraine, where it continues to be the largest minority language, used by millions in daily life, despite years of antagonism with Moscow.

Don't hold your breath! Justice Dept likely to slow-walk declassification

Trump
Don't hold your breath. While the media is breathlessly describing yesterday's order by President Donald Trump's "to provide for the immediate (emphasis added) declassification" of Russia-gate materials as a "showdown," any likely showdown is months away, if it comes at all.

The word "immediate" can mean different things to different people. Had the President set a deadline, or had he given the declassification task to his own National Security Council, the word "showdown" might be closer to what to expect.

The tragic-comedy now on stage in Washington is beyond bizarre. Can President Trump be unaware that those he "ordered" to do the declassification - top officials of the Justice Department, the FBI, and the intelligence agencies - have zero incentive to comply "immediately." And they have minus-zero incentive, as the top echelons see it, to throw their former bosses, colleagues, and co-conspirators under the bus by releasing the family jewels.

Most of today's commentary by anonymous officials on declassification are transparently bogus. To suggest, for example, that "death could occur," as one MSNBC pundit predicted this afternoon, is beyond ludicrous. Do not expect Establishment media, however, to stop its feeding frenzy at the Deep State trough.

Comment: We're not holding our breath either. As McGovern says, no actual 'deadline' was stated for declassifying these documents and neither any desire by the FBI to further expose the sham that is Russia-gate. Even if there was an immediate release and the documents contained 'bombshell' information don't count on any person of importance being served any justice. If there was any chance of that, Hillary would have been in jail by now, among others. See also: Trump orders immediate release of all text messages related to Russia investigation, unredacted

Satellite images show Syria strike as Israeli Air Force chief goes to Moscow to explain Il-20 incident

Timely released satellite images have revealed the destruction left by IDF air strikes in Syria's Latakia after Israel was forced to make a rare admission to the raid which resulted in the downing of the Russian Il-20 recon plane.

On Wednesday, Israeli satellite imaging company ImageSat released three photos of an "ammunition warehouse" in Latakia, showing it before and after the Monday night attack. The three photos, posted on Twitter, show the building was completely destroyed in the strike.

Israel does not normally acknowledge its airstrikes in Syria, at least not until much later. However, the IDF made a rare immediate admission of responsibility on Tuesday, after the Russian Defense Ministry identified Israeli F-16 jets as taking part in the attack, and said the Il-20 aerial observation platform vanished from radars during the strike.

Comment: Israeli Air Force Commander Amikan Norkin will head to Moscow to hand over the information on the Ilyushin Il-20 warplane crash in Syria, Israel's Defense Forces said on Wednesday.
"On Thursday morning, a delegation of Israel's Defense Forces headed by Major General Amikan Norkin, the Air Force Commander, will head to Moscow after the downing of a Russian plane by a Syrian missile on Monday night," says the communique circulated by the military.

"The Air Force commander and the delegation will present data on the incident in all aspects, including preliminary information and main conclusions of the investigation," it says.
...
Earlier on Wednesday, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that in Tuesday's phone conversation with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Vladimir Putin gave his consent to the arrival of experts headed by the Israeli Air Force commander, who are to hand their data on the Il-20 crash to Moscow. Peskov has pointed out that the Russian president relies on the information provided by the Russian Defense Ministry, but then added that Israel's information will be also examined by Russian experts.
President Assad has shared his thoughts on the incident:
"I express my sincere condolences on behalf of the Syrian people in connection with the crash of the Russian Il-20 military aircraft in the Mediterranean Sea, which led to the death of Russian military heroes who performed the valiant task of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation in the fight against terrorism in Syria," Assad said in a telegram to Putin as quoted by SANA.

"This sad incident is the result of the arrogance and reckless violence of Israel, which constantly uses the dirtiest methods to achieve its sinister goals and to carry out aggression in the region," Assad stressed.
He's right about that. Israel plays dirty; it always has.

The American 6th Fleet's public affairs officer, Cmdr. Kyle Raines, told Sputnik:
"We are aware of the reporting on the loss of a Russian military aircraft. Our ships stand ready to assist any nation when called upon to render assistance at sea, which is a fundamental element of responsible mariners."

Raines, however, did not say if the Russian Defense Ministry had requested the assistance of the US in relation to the incident.

EU threatens Cyprus with Article 7, censure, for allegedly violating Bill Browder's human rights

Bill Brwder
It's been quite a week for Article 7 of the Lisbon Treaty. First Hungary and now Cyprus. And all because of some guy named Bill Browder?

Despite numerous warnings and obstacles, Cyprus continues to assist Russia in investigating the finances of Bill Browder. This has resulted in letters of warning to Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades as well as lawsuits by Browder citing the investigation violates his human rights.

Like everything else in this world, just ask Browder.

Last fall Browder and 17 MEP's launched a two-pronged assault on Cyprus to end their assisting Russia's investigation into Browder. Browder with the lawsuit. The MEP's with a letter of warning.

The lawsuit has failed, however. The Nicosia District Court handed down a ruling recently which allowed for Browder to sue for damages to his reputation but not putting an injunction on the investigation.
More than a month ago the Nicosia District Court said that the cooperation with Russia in its politically motivated probe would violate the human rights of Bill Browder and his associate Ivan Cherkasov and the two would have good prospects in claiming damages from the government. Still, the court rejected Browder's application for an order preventing Cypriot authorities from cooperating with Russia in its proceedings against him on the grounds that any damage would not be irreparable.
And this is where this gets interesting.

Comment: ...which is part of the reason why Sott.net has been paying such close attention to the Browder story. The lies that he's been able to get away with - and the lengths to which he's gone just to protect his illegally obtained fortune deserve a special place in the attentions of people who naturally take issue with psychopaths in positions of power (including non-elected ones like Browder). He's clearly VERY close to the top of the pyramid...

Will we see 'swamp critter' heads roll when Trump's declassified order of specific FISA documents is fulfilled?

Hillary Clinton

Judicial Watch
Director of Investigations and Research Chris Farrell appeared on "Lou Dobbs Tonight" on the Fox Business Network to discuss the Department of Justice's response to President Trump's FISA declassification request.

Listen to what Dobbs and Farrell think may happen regarding President Trump's order to declassify specific documents.

The Deep State players now are in a Catch 22 position: How can, or do they, protect themselves / each other, plus not disclose an apparent treasonous [a violation of the allegiance owed by somebody to his or her own country] or possible seditious [actions or words intended to provoke or incite rebellion against government authority, or actual rebellion against government authority] agenda?

Recall the famous Hillary Clinton quote after her massive meltdown from being interviewed by Matt Lauer.

"If that f - - - ing bastard [Trump] wins, we all hang from nooses!"

The Federal Reserve is the committee to destroy the financial world

The Federal Reserve
The general belief among average citizens is that the purpose of central banks is to help the economy by fighting inflation and mitigating financial crisis. It's a fairy tale that politicians like to encourage. If there were any truth to it, however, where was the Federal Reserve during the crisis of 2007? Rather than helping, it was widening the crisis with its easy money policies.

While central banks are not a government entity, their primary purpose is to create money for the benefit of the government. By mindlessly printing fiat currency, central banks create a shaky illusion of financial stability. In reality, each central bank is a monopoly that controls the production of distribution of currency and interest rates. Most importantly, it also controls gold reserves. While paper currency allegedly has the backing of the government, it is the central bank that controls the value of the currency at any specific time.

The first central bank, the Central Bank of England, was created in the 17th century as a scheme to enable the king to pay off his debts. As each country established its own central bank, it has been used by its government as a personal bank account.

'Terrifying' new documents show secret government regulations for spying on US journalists

digital surveillance
© ACLUPress freedom advocates have obtained and released federal government documents detailing an invasive process officials can use to spy on journalists.
Journalists and free press advocates are responding with alarm to newly released documents revealing the U.S. government's secret rules for using Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) court orders to spy on reporters, calling the revelations "important" and "terrifying."

The documents-obtained and released by the Freedom of the Press Foundation and the Knight First Amendment Institute at Columbia University through an ongoing Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) lawsuit filed last November-confirm long held suspicions that federal officials can target journalists with FISA orders.

"Ashamed and afraid": EU delegation chairman slams Israel for barring them entry to Gaza

Neoklis Sylikiotis
Delegation chairman Neoklis Sylikiotis condemns move as 'arbitrary, unacceptable.'
Israel on Tuesday denied a European Parliament (EP) delegation access to the blockaded Gaza Strip, according to an official EP statement.

"The Israeli authorities have once again refused the EP's Delegation for Relations with Palestine permission to enter the Gaza Strip," the statement read.

The delegation, it added, had requested permission to enter the strip as part of a three-day planned mission to the Palestinian territories.

Stating that the purpose of the visit was "to monitor the humanitarian situation caused by a decade of blockade", the statement asserted that Israel had barred successive EP delegations from entering Gaza since 2011.

Stock Down

Ten years after the crash, we've learned nothing

Traders

Ten years ago, on Saturday, September 13th, 2008, the world was about to end.

The New York Federal Reserve was a zoo. Imagine NASA headquarters on the day a giant asteroid careens into the atmosphere. That was the New York Fed: all hands on deck, peak human panic.

The crowd included future Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner, then-Treasury Secretary (and former Goldman Sachs CEO) Hank Paulson, the representatives of multiple regulatory offices, and the CEOs of virtually every major bank in New York, each toting armies of bean counters and bankers.

The asteroid metaphor fit. In the twin collapses of top-five investment bank Lehman Brothers and insurance giant AIG, Wall Street saw a civilization-imperiling ball of debt hurtling its way.

Syrian army forces find Israeli-made medicine in militant field hospital in Quneitra

Syrian government forces have uncovered a considerable amount of Israeli-made medicine and medical supplies in a field hospital belonging to foreign-sponsored Takfiri militants in the country's strategic southwestern province of Quneitra.

Local sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Syria's official news agency, SANA, that army soldiers made the discovery in the village of Bariqa on Wednesday as they were combing the area for hidden ordinance and improvised explosive devices, which Takfiri militants had planted there.

The report added that the hospital had modern CT scan, X-ray medical imaging machines, laboratory equipment and a pharmacy containing various types of antibiotics, vaccines and painkillers.

Comment: Israel has a long history of supporting Syrian militants to keep the region in chaos. In their twisted view, paying muscle to attack their neighbors keeps Israel safe.
