Trump considering sanctions against Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline to 'protect Germany from Russia'

US president Donald Trump says he is considering slapping sanctions on Russia's Nord Stream 2 natural gas pipeline project, insisting that the US has a much "better" alternative for Europe.

"[It's] something that I've been looking at and I'm thinking about," the US president said, answering a reporter's question about using sanctions to block the project.

He added that he was the one who'd brought up "the pipeline problem," referring to his earlier attacks against Russia's energy supplies to Europe, and Germany in particular, as it is the entry point of the new export gas pipeline.

"You know this gas is going into Germany. I say, 'How can you do that?' So, we're protecting Germany from Russia," he went on.

Comment: While those in the political class may be willing to sell out their countries and pay more for gas to appease the US but European businesses, and more particularly the citizens of Europe, who are already struggling to heat their homes in winter, will not be best pleased to see their bills increase even further just so that the US economy can scrape by for a little longer: Also check out SOTT radio's: NewsReal #26: Globalization vs Nationalism - The Hidden Causes of The Yellow Vest Protests in France

US must develop "new way of war" or risk defeat to Russia & China - think tank

The Pentagon's military posture based on post-Cold War dominance will not work against new Russian and Chinese strategies and must be urgently updated, or the US risks losing a war against either power, a new report warns.

America needs a "new way of war," according to a report authored by Chris Dougherty of the Center for New American Security (CNAS) and published on Wednesday.

"For the first time in decades, it is possible to imagine the United States fighting-and possibly losing-a large-scale war with a great power," Dougherty warns.

While the US remains stuck in the "implicit and explicit mental framework" for military strategy and operations that emerged during the 1991 Gulf War, he adds, China and Russia have been devising new strategies and weapons to defeat the US in war should that become necessary.

Comment: Sadly it's unlikely ever to occur to many of those who've reached positions of influence in the US that the way out of this mess is not by coming up with a new way of war but instead is through cooperation:

Mexico to deploy National Guard forces to southern border to stem flow of Central American migrants

Deployment of National Guard forces to Mexico's southern border will advance quickly under a migration control deal signed last week with the United States, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said on Wednesday, although there were no visible signs on the ground late in the day.

Under the deal signed on Friday, Mexico agreed to take steps to control the flow of people from Central America, including deploying 6,000 members of the country's National Guard across its border with Guatemala.

"Starting from today, and in the coming days, the deployment is going to progress rapidly," Ebrard said during President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador's regular morning news conference.

However, a Reuters photographer in Southern Mexico said there was no sign of National Guard forces being deployed late on Wednesday - only regular checkpoints by the army, marines and the Federal Police.

The deal agreed on Friday averted escalating import tariffs of 5% on Mexican goods, which President Donald Trump had vowed to impose unless Mexico did more to curb illegal migration into the United States. Mexico also agreed to a 45-day timeline to show that increased enforcement efforts were effective.

Trump orders simpler path for genetically engineered food

Trump signs GMO executive order
© AP Photo/Patrick SemanskyPresident Donald Trump holds up a signed executive order to streamline the approval process for GMO crops, after speaking at Southwest Iowa Renewable Energy in Council Bluffs, Iowa, Tuesday, June 11, 2019.
President Trump wants to make it easier for genetically engineered plants and animals to enter the food supply, and he signed an executive order Tuesday directing federal agencies to simplify the "regulatory maze" for producers.

The move comes as companies are turning to newer genetic engineering techniques that make it easier to tinker with the traits of plants and animals.

Greg Jaffe, biotechnology director at the Center for Science in the Public Interest, said the impact of the executive order will depend on the details of how it's carried out by federal agencies. Simply deregulating could make people lose confidence in genetically engineered foods, he said.

Comment: That's just what we need - less regulation to allow more genetically modified genetic garbage onto our dinner plates. Thanks Trump!

US airstrike accidentally wipes out Afghan troops who called in for back up - Again

In a bizarre case of friendly fire, a contingent of U.S. and Afghan troops came under fire from another group of Afghan security forces before calling in air support in self-defense, a U.S. military spokesman told Task & Purpose on Wednesday.

The joint U.S.-Afghan force "came under effective fire" during a joint patrol in the country's Kunduz province, forcing them to request precision air support "to suppress the onslaught of machine gun fire," said Army Col. David Butler, a spokesman for U.S. Forces-Afghanistan.

As it turned out, the machine gun fire "was coming from another group of Afghan security forces," Butler said, killing an unspecified number of Afghan security forces personnel.

No U.S. troops were killed or wounded in the incident, Butler said, adding that the Pentagon plans on convening a joint investigation board to determine the details of the incident.

Comment: Considering all the support the US has given to the terrorists, it's not surprising they're unsure whose side they're on:

"Undoubtedly unlawful": MI5 in High Court for 'mass collection of innocent citizens data'

The security service MI5 has handled large amounts of personal data in an "undoubtedly unlawful" way, a watchdog has said.

The Investigatory Powers Commissioner said information gathered under warrants was kept too long and not stored safely.

Civil rights group Liberty said the breaches involved the "mass collection of data of innocent citizens".

The high court heard MI5 knew about the issues in 2016 but kept them secret.

"MI5 have been holding on to people's data - ordinary people's data, your data, my data - illegally for many years," said Megan Goulding, a lawyer for Liberty, which brought the case.

Comment: Mass surveillance by government entities is clearly not only a concern for China: Is China's social credit system coming to Australia?

French far-right leader Marine Le Pen has been ordered to stand trial for tweeting pictures of Islamic State atrocities, a judicial source told AFP on Wednesday.

Le Pen shared the gruesome images in December 2015, a few weeks after IS jihadists killed 130 people in attacks in Paris.

A judge in the western Paris suburb of Nanterre ordered that the National Rally leader stand trial on charges of circulating "violent messages that incite terrorism or pornography or seriously harm human dignity" and that can be viewed by a minor.

The charges carry a maximum sentence of three years in prison and a fine of 75,000 euros ($85,000).

Comment: She OBVIOUSLY didn't do that to support ISIS.

Comment: These attacks are clearly intended to bring down Le Pen but as we can see from the recent MEP elections, Le Pen continues to surge in the polls. Evidently, the citizens of France aren't buying the establishment propaganda:

Report: Docs reveal two Google blacklists that remove alternative news & op-eds from special search results

Google
At least two other blacklists are applied to Google's web answers feature, one of which is manually edited, documents obtained by The Daily Caller indicate.

The first blacklist, titled "webanswers_url_blacklist," impacts the company's "featured snippets" or answer blocks, the type of special search result that appears when questions are typed into the search bar. For example, the question "What is the biggest fish?" yields a special search box on the whale shark.

In screenshots of the blacklist shared with The Daily Caller, the instructions at the top of the page say, "To ensure the blacklist will REMOVE a URL, add a line '# REMOVE url'." And, "To ensure the blacklist WON'T remove a URL by accident, add '# PERMIT url'," indicating that the blacklist is manually edited.

Trump supports giving 'protected status' to Venezuelan refugees fleeing carnage the US helped create

Despite his tough anti-immigration stance, President Donald Trump is exploring the idea of granting Temporary Protected Status to Venezuelans fleeing the country still under US sanctions after its Washington-backed failed coup.

TPS is a federal government designation for people residing in the US who have fled from severe natural disasters or armed conflict. It currently applies to people from ten different countries, including war-torn Yemen, Somalia and Sudan. The bill to apply TPS to Venezuelans was introduced to congress by Florida Representatives Mario Diaz-Balart and Darren Soto in January. The legislation passed through the committee stage last month and is now awaiting a vote on the House floor.

Trump's unexpected show of support for the move sharply contrasts with his otherwise staunchly anti-immigrant stance. He has called for a "zero tolerance" stance on illegal crossings along the US's southern border with Mexico, and even moved to discontinue TPS for several of the countries currently on the list.

Iran does not want war, but will defend itself from attack - Rouhani meets with Abe

Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said that his country was not interested in starting a military conflict, but insisted it would defend itself from foreign aggression.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday after a meeting in Tehran with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, Rouhani warned against any attack on the Islamic Republic.

"Iran will never initiate a war but will give a crushing response to any aggression," Rouhani said at a joint news conference alongside the Japanese PM.

Comment: History supports this statement. It's the US that wages wars of all kinds all over the planet, not Iran.

Comment: News just in: During Rouhani's visit to Japan, there's been an attack in the strait of Hormuz on two oil tankers carrying 'japan-related cargo':
