Fed panics: Signature Bank closed by regulators; Fed, TSY, FDIC announce another banking system bailout

6:20 PM ET Update: Panic is finally here.

On Friday, we said that the Fed will have to make an announcement before the Monday open, and we didn't have to wait that long: in fact, the Fed waited just 15 minutes after futures opened for trading to announce the new bailout, alongside even more shocking news: the Treasury announced that New York State regulators are shuttering Signature Bank - a major New York bank - adding that all depositors both at Signature Bank, and also the now insolvent Silicon Valley Bank, will have access to their money on Monday.

And as we process the shock of yet another small bank failure (which makes JPMorgan even bigger), the Fed just issued a statement saying that
"to support American businesses and households, the Federal Reserve Board on Sunday announced it will make available additional funding to eligible depository institutions to help assure banks have the ability to meet the needs of all their depositors. This action will bolster the capacity of the banking system to safeguard deposits and ensure the ongoing provision of money and credit to the economy."
The Fed also said that it is prepared to address any liquidity pressures that may arise, which in turn has just unveiled the first bailout acronym of the new crisis: the Bank Term Funding Program, or BTFP.

Comment: Additional Michael Snyder comments:
Did you think that the Federal Reserve was just going to stand by and watch the U.S. banking system completely collapse? In response to the stunning failures of Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank, the Federal Reserve announced a rescue plan on Sunday evening that is going to radically change banking in America forever. All deposits at Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank will be fully guaranteed and will be available on Monday.

Of course the Federal Reserve can't just make an exception for these two banks. If they are going to do this for them, that means that they are going to have to do it for everyone else too. So what this means is that from this point forward the Federal Reserve is essentially promising to guarantee every bank account in America. Considering the fact that more than 19 trillion dollars is deposited with U.S. banks, that is quite a promise to make.

Our fundamentally flawed system simply cannot survive without artificial support.

If the Fed had just stood by and done nothing we would have been facing a nightmare scenario as early as next week...

---
Over the past several days, we really did come to the brink of the abyss. But now the Federal Reserve has come charging to the rescue and so everything is okay, right?

I wish that was actually true.

As a result of the Fed's reckless rate hiking strategy, U.S. banks are now sitting on 620 billion dollars of unrealized losses. That is "billion" with a "b", and that is a ticking time bomb that is not going to go away any time soon.

Meanwhile, the housing bubble is imploding, we are heading into the worst commercial real estate crisis in all of U.S. history, and now faith in the U.S. banking system has been greatly shaken.

This crisis is not even close to over.

And every time there is a new eruption somewhere, the Fed will try to put the flames out with generous injections of fresh liquidity.

Virtually everyone applauds when the Fed starts spraying money around, but by now all of us should realize that this story is not going to have a happy ending.
This is a long but fascinating compilation of updates spelling out the means and maneuvers of the Fed that have occurred over the past few hours.

The net effect of all the lying propaganda laid on the public by the people running things lo these many recent years is a peculiar inertia that makes us seemingly impervious to gross political shocks. Momentous things happen and almost instantly get swallowed up by time, as by some voracious cosmic amoeba that thrives on human malignancy. Case in point: the multiple suicide of several giant banks just days ago that prompted "Joe Biden" to nationalize the US banking system.

As if all the operations around finance in this land were not already unsound and degenerate enough, the alleged president just cancelled moral hazard altogether. It's now official: from here forward there will be no consequences for banking fraud, poor decision-making, fiduciary recklessness, self-dealing, or any of the other risks attendant to the handling of other people's money. Bailing out the Silicon Valley Bank and Barney Frank's deluxe Signature Bank means that the government will now have to bail out every bank every time something goes wrong.

The CO2 narrative: The truth about 'Net Zero' - a diabolical agenda sold as a savior formula

dial
© Adobe Stock/KJNNet Zero
'Net Zero', what does it mean? Does anyone know? Who drempt-up this slogan?

Put together, these two words don't actually have any meaning. 'Net' is usually used as a shortened form of 'netto' (netto/brutto) a term used in accountancy describing a sum of money remaining after tax or expenses have been deducted.

So what could 'Net Zero' possibly mean? That nothing will be left once zero carbon has been achieved?

The term seems to ape, no doubt for good reason, the one chosen to describe the blackened hole in the ground left after the devastation of 9/11: Ground Zero.

Look at it this way, by reducing carbon dioxide to nil (zero carbon) all plant life dependent for its growth on this natural gas, will die. By extension, all humans and animals dependent upon the oxygen that plants produce, via the conversion of carbon dioxide into oxygen, will also die. Basic biology reveals that is indeed the case.

So what the inventors of 'Net Zero' seem to be suggesting is that the objective is to end all plant, animal and human life by 2050. Or have I got something wrong? Have 'they' quietly dropped CO2 as the arch baddie of the past three decades - and are now trying to make simple 'carbon' the source of all our woes?

This is, after all, what they did by surreptitiously shifting 'global warming' into 'climate change' a couple of decades ago. A classic slight of hand by the cabal spin doctors.

Comment: Perspective: Perhaps this scenario is at the 'far' end of possible futures, but it clearly frames the pathological elimination of humanity and the reasons why in no uncertain terms.

Yemen peace talks intensify after Iran-Saudi deal

UN envoy has visited Tehran and Riyadh after the agreement brokered by China...

Diplomatic efforts to broker a peace in Yemen accelerated after Iran and Saudi Arabia agreed to re-establish diplomatic relations last week, the UN special envoy Hans Grundberg has reported to the Security Council. After returning from Tehran and Riyadh, he said:
"Intense diplomatic efforts are ongoing at different levels to bring the conflict in Yemen to an end. We are currently witnessing renewed regional diplomatic momentum, as well as a step change in the scope and depth of the discussions."
Iran has (reportedly) agreed to stop supplying weapons to the Houthis of Yemen, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing anonymous US and Saudi officials. Tehran has officially denied sending weapons to the Houthis, and the Iranian mission at the UN declined to comment on the claim.

Comment: If so, this puts an end to one of the worst tragedies on the planet supported and condoned by the US for almost a decade.

African nation wants to join BRICS

The Zimbabwean government would like to become a member of the BRICS economic bloc, the speaker of the ruling party ZANU-PF said on Wednesday.

"We made it clear that we would like to become a member of the BRICS," Christopher Mutsvangwa told Russia's RIA Novosti news agency.

The official added that his country is interested in developing alternatives to the Western-dominated SWIFT payment network. In his view, BRICS could contribute to that.

Mutsvangwa described BRICS as a new force in international relations, and said he hopes its growth and expansion will continue.

Comment: Join BRICS? Ditch the Dollar!
The central banks of Russia and Zimbabwe should establish settlements in local currencies and look at opportunities for securing trade in gold reserves, the speaker of the Zimbabwean ruling party ZANU-PF, Christopher Mutsvangwa, told RIA Novosti on Wednesday.

The southern African country has been under Western sanctions for 22 years, the official noted, adding that curbs imposed on Russia should not handicap trade between the two countries.

Earlier this year, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov announced that Russia and countries in Africa were developing a cooperation strategy to replace the US dollar and the euro in settlements, adding that the parties were preparing documents on rearranging the mechanism of cooperation under Western sanctions.

Mutsvangwa suggested:
"Our banks should find a way to make the Russian ruble and the Zimbabwean dollar freely convertible. Also, our countries both have rich gold reserves. We are among the top seven countries in terms of gold mining, and production volumes are growing. We are now mining 35 tons per year, but we could mine all 50. So we could think about securing our trade in gold reserves."
The official went on to say that "nothing could derail" trade between Moscow and Harare, noting that China, India, and Middle Eastern nations were also moving towards abandoning the dollar in settlements.

The politician also proposed establishing more banks that use alternative payment systems to replace the West's SWIFT messaging system. He noted that trade in dollars was "a limiting factor" adding that Russia and African nations should set up "more banks outside of the US-run global SWIFT banking system."

Links to Russia's new trade partners in African countries, including Zimbabwe, have been quickly taking shape in recent years. In 2019, Russia hosted the first Russia-Africa Summit, with participants outlining priority areas for economic cooperation, security, culture and science. The second summit is scheduled to take place in St. Petersburg in July.
Sudan may follow suit:
Sudan and Russia are mulling ways to switch to national currencies in mutual settlements according to Sudanese ambassador to Russia, Hassan Mohammed Elghazali Eltijani Sirraj.
"Russia has suggested to Sudan to use a system of financial transactions, in which we would use national currencies. This issue is being discussed by the central banks of both countries; we will see if this is possible. This is largely a technical issue. The central banks will study this issue, see how it actually works, and in the near future we should see the result."
According to Sirraj, Sudan is eager to expand trade ties with Russia and could become a hub for the sale of Russian products to other African nations due to its strategically convenient location.
"I believe that we can work together to develop our relations further in the future, especially since we have a solid foundation for this. In the near future, we would like to increase the level of our economic interaction. We would also like to open Russian markets for goods from Sudan, especially in the agricultural sector. In my opinion, today our trade turnover is not at a level that would be desirable - an increase would have a positive effect on both Russia and Sudan."
The diplomat suggested that Sudan could supply Russian markets with good quality cotton, food supplements and seasonal fruits, while buying grain and oil from Moscow.

Khartoum is also interested in increasing cooperation with Russian businesses in mineral exploration and mining. According to Sirraj, a number of Russian exploration and mining companies are already operating in Sudan, and the African country expects to attract more Russian investments to the sector, with several agreements already under discussion.

Last month, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov visited Sudan, where he held talks with his Sudanese counterpart Ali Al-Sadiq and other top officials. Sirraj called Lavrov's visit an important milestone in the development of Sudan-Russia bilateral relations.

Border Patrol chief contradicts Biden administration, calls for building wall amid crisis at southern border

© Associated Press/Andrew HarnickPresident Joe Biden traveled to the Texas border city of El Paso on January 8, 2023, his first trip to the border since taking office nearly two years ago.
'No, sir,' replied Ortiz when asked if the DHS had full operational control. 'I will tell you that in certain areas, the cartels control an awful lot of the southern border south of the United States.'

In a recent House Committee on Homeland Security field hearing in Pharr, Texas, U.S. Border Patrol Chief Raúl Ortiz contradicted claims by the Biden administration that the southern border is secure.

Ortiz highlighted the crisis at the border, urged that it is not secure, and called for a wall to be built.

Key testimonies from the hearing included those of Chief Ortiz, Assistant Director of Countering Transnational Organized Crime Steven Cagen, Director of the Texas Department of Public Safety Colonel Steven McCraw, Sheriff Brad Coe of Kinney County, Texas, and Vice President of the National Border Patrol Council Chris Cabrera.

West's disdain for truth is leading to ruin

Current historical juncture is a spectacular case study in unintended consequences and opposite outcomes.
War Criminal Blair

It is almost surreal to contemplate the changes that took place over the past 12 months. One year ago this week, Sir Tony Blair published an article on the pages of his very important Tony Blair Institute for Global Change. It was titled, "The Immediate Challenge in Ukraine: Maximum Pressure Combined With Structured Negotiation" (as opposed to just ordinary kind of negotiation for simpletons).

The Knight Companion of the Most Noble Order of the Garter opens his treatise with the statement, "Putin has badly miscalculated," and drivels on about how the West "has impressively united to assemble a vast arsenal of sanctions which will over time collapse the Russian economy. ... in the end, this aggression may well herald the downfall of Putin." Sir Tony portrays the man himself as an anxious wreck, "detached from reality and with no one around him prepared to tell him the truth." In other words, an archetype of a megalomaniacal cartoon villain.

But it was Sir Tony, and many others like him, who have proven detached from reality. As Niccolo Machiavelli wrote in The Prince, "Men will not look at things as they really are, but as they wish them to be - and are ruined." Meanwhile, the truth was easily discernible for anyone who wanted to see things as they are. On 25 March last year, a month into the Ukraine war I wrote that, "If today's geopolitics were a tennis match, this would be a 6:0, 6:0 for Russia."

Washington has called for a meeting to focus on how sexual orientation and gender identity figure in the context of armed conflict.

The US has called for an informal meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to discuss the integration of the human rights of LGBTQ and intersex individuals (also known as 'LGBTI') into the organization's efforts to maintain "international peace and security."

According to a concept note released by the United States Mission to the UN, the US, along with co-sponsors from Albania, Brazil, Cyprus, the Czech Republic, France, Greece, Japan, Malta, Switzerland, and the UK, intend to hold the meeting next week on Monday, March 20. The talks will also be joined by the LGBTI Core Group to "consider how to better integrate consideration of the human rights of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Intersex persons into the UNSC's work."

US 'obviously' blew up Nord Stream - French politician

Norway also had a profit motive to join the alleged American plot, Florian Philippot has claimed.

French political party leader Florian Philippot believes it has long been obvious that the US was behind last year's sabotage of the Nord Stream pipelines, which were built to deliver Russian natural gas to Western Europe.
"Even before the war in Ukraine, the US for years fought against Nord Stream, it was a permanent part of their policy," he told RIA Novosti in an interview published on Friday.
"In early February 2022, [US President Joe] Biden said the Americans could make it so that the pipeline was no more. That's what happened. And it was in the interest of the Americans," according to Philippot, who heads the right-wing The Patriots party in France.
Last month, veteran investigative journalist Seymour Hersh reported that Biden personally ordered the bombing of the pipelines, and that Norway assisted in the sabotage. He cited an unnamed source and supported his case using some of the same arguments as Philippot.

UN investigators say no evidence of genocide within Ukraine - yet

Putin
© ReutersRussian President Vladimir Putin attends a ceremony marking International Women's Day at the Kremlin in Moscow, Russia, March 8, 2023.
A United Nations investigation into human rights violations in Ukraine since Russia's invasion of the country has not concluded that a genocide has taken place, its chair said Thursday.

"We have not found that there has been a genocide within Ukraine," Norwegian judge Erik Mose, the head of the investigation team, told a press conference in Geneva.

However, "we have noted that there are some aspects which may raise questions with respect to that crime... but we have not yet put in any conclusion here," he said.

Comment: Unsurprisingly the UN overlooked the genocide of the people of Donbass committed by Kiev's Nazi-aligned regime.

That said, the international community that is pivoting to the multipolar alliance will be taking note of the demonstrable corruption the UN is embroiled in, and, should we get that far, they will likely ensure that the UN undergoes a complete overhaul, using damning reports like this as evidence.
