Despite the state government's assurance to address the dog menace issue, recent data indicates that the attack continues unabated. As many as 137,137 individuals approached hospitals across the state for dog bite treatment in the first five months of 2023. Every month at least 25,000 persons approach hospitals in the state, the data shows. The number of deaths due to dog attack stands at seven.
There are chances that some people do not take treatment for pet dog bites. So naturally, the actual number will be more than the data according to hospital records

A video appeared to show a man being bitten and dragged out of his fishing boat Friday by a shark while in the Florida Everglades.
The video − which was shared with WPLG Local 10 news station in Southeastern Florida − shows what appears to be one fisherman dipping his hand near a partially submerged shark before the predatory fish lunged at the man, causing him to fall into the water.
Other fishermen in the boat could then be heard exclaiming, "Get him!" as they worked to rescue the man from the shark-infested water.

Police and witnesses say a coyote attacked a boy in Winnipeg's North Kildonan neighbourhood Saturday evening.
Logan Funk was in his living room Saturday evening when he heard screams for help coming from outside.
He peeked out his window only to see what he thought was a dog attacking a boy.
Funk, 18, rushed out the door of his North Kildonan home to find a nine-year-old being mauled by a coyote. He managed to chase it off and flagged down others for help.
Residents soon came out of their homes to tend to the boy while Funk grabbed a shovel to scare the animal further away.
"They're not afraid of people, not afraid of dogs," Funk said of an increasing number of coyotes he's seen in the North Winnipeg neighbourhood.
Police say the boy and his 15-year-old sister were walking around the Popko Crescent and Knowles Avenue area just before 7 p.m. when the coyote ran towards them as they tried to flee.
A woman was killed and a man was left in critical condition from a dog attack in Sierra Vista on Friday morning, according to the Sierra Vista Police Department.
Officers responded to the area after reports of a dog attack in the alley between Meadowlark Drive and Calle Del Norte. When officers arrived at the area, they found a dog attacking a man, later identified as Sam Sanches Jr., 53, in the backyard of a house on Calle Del Norte. Officers then killed the dog and provided first aid before emergency medical assistance arrived, according to a police news release.
Sanches was taken to Banner Medical Center where he remained in critical condition from his injuries, according to the news release.
Sean Hazelden was recuperating after an icy morning swim when a tiny figure emerged from the surf and staggered up the beach.
It took one step, and another, and fell onto its face.
The Esperance resident rushed over, scooping up the skeletal traveller in his arms.
"When I went over to pick it up it was really emaciated," he said.
The black-and-white bird, crowned with a flourish of yellow feathers over each eye, was a Fiordland crested penguin, one of the world's rarest penguin species.
The emaciated penguin had likely been at sea since February or March, and should have been almost 4,000 kilometres away on the west coast of New Zealand's South Island, ready for breeding season.
Scientists believe that a killer whale pod in North sea may have been educated by the Mediterranean orca Gladis.
A killer whale has repeatedly rammed a yacht off the coast of Scotland, it has emerged, in an attack reminiscent of those seen 3,000 miles further south near Gibraltar.
The orca is said to have made contact with a small boat off the Shetland coast in the North sea as a solo sailor embarked on a trip from Lerwick to Bergen, Norway.
Our sister site, BurlingtonToday, has confirmed that one of the victims of a violent dog attack at a home on Caplan Crescent earlier this month has died of their injuries.
According to published media reports the woman, who was taken to hospital in critical condition on June 6, passed away 10 days later.
"I can confirm that the victim in the hospital tragically passed away on June 16," said Halton Regional Police media relations officer Steve Elms in an email, noting that the HRPS is not in a position to identify the victim.
"There are no criminal elements to this investigation," he added. "Pending any new information, our involvement at this point is minimal."
A second resident of the home sustained serious injuries in the attack, while a neighbour who tried to help was not hurt. Police tried to subdue the dog using a taser, but ultimately shot and killed it to stop the attack.
The scene is unsettling: hundreds of sea lions and dolphins are sprawled across the beaches in Southern California, either dead or sick and exhibiting abnormal behaviour.
Officials have received more than 1,000 calls in recent weeks from beachgoers, tourists and residents reporting sick, dying and dead sea mammals washed ashore from Santa Barbara to San Diego County, amid a growing toxic algal bloom in the waters off the coast.
The wave of dead or sick animals is "one of the largest in memory," Justin Greenman, a stranding coordinator with NOAA Fisheries, told CNN. "It's completely overwhelming."
And, Greenman said, it doesn't appear to be ending any time soon.
