Another earthquake off Vancouver Island has struck with a magnitude of 6.2 Tuesday night.

The quake follows a series of at least six earthquakes Monday, but this is the most significant shock since.

Tuesday night's quake was located 188 kilometers off Port Hardy, at the tip of Vancouver Island around 7:30 p.m.

Shallow magnitude 6 earthquake strikes Colombia - Buildings shake in Bogota

A large earthquake was reported in the South American country of Colombia Tuesday afternoon, shaking buildings in the capital, Bogota.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the 6.0 magnitude quake struck at 2:03 p.m. EST, and was centered some 100 miles south of Bogota near the town of Lejanias. It struck at a depth of 6.2 miles. Sixteen minutes later, a 5.8 aftershock was measured nearby, the USGS also said.

As the shaking from the main quake ended, sirens sounded in the city of Bogota.

While the region northwest of Vancouver Island's northern end experiences frequent seismic activity, it has been particularly active today.

A series of four offshore earthquakes took place this morning, ranging from 5.1- and increasing in intensity to two 6.0-magnitude quakes.

A fifth earthquake has also recently hit at 3:38 p.m.

Earthquakes Canada measured it as a 4.8-magnitude quake while the U.S. Geological Survey initially reported it as 4.9-magnitude temblor before before reassessing it as 4.7-magnitude.

According to Earthquakes Canada, it struck at a depth of five kilometres (three miles) and the epicentre was located 168 kilometres (104 miles) west of Port Hardy, 336 kilometres (209 miles) west of Campbell River, and 508 kilometres (316 miles) northwest of Vancouver.

Like the other quakes, there aren't any reports of damage and none are expected, and there also isn't a tsunami threat from this event.

An earthquake shook parts of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Indian-administered Kashmir on Friday, witnesses said.

Friday's magnitude 6.1 earthquake was centred in the mountainous Hindu Kush region in Afghanistan, at a depth of 210km (130 miles), the United States Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of casualties.

Officials in the Afghan capital, Kabul, said they were assessing damage in areas around the sparsely populated epicentre.

In Pakistan, tremors were felt as they shook furniture and power cable poles, according to witnesses.

Waseem Ahmad, a spokesman for the National Disaster Management Authority in Islamabad, estimated that it was a 6.4 magnitude earthquake.

More than 1000 earthquakes detected on Reykjanes Peninsula, Iceland

Over 1,000 earthquakes and aftershocks have been detected in a wave of seismic activity on the Reykjanes peninsula which began yesterday morning. Nine of the earthquakes measured between a magnitude of 3.0 and 3.7. According to the Icelandic Met Office, there are no signs of volcanic tremor.

The earthquake swarm began around 7.00am on Sunday morning, with an earthquake of magnitude 3.5 measured at 8.00am. The activity calmed down around noon yesterday but began increasing again around 8.00pm. The largest earthquakes measured occurred just after that time, reaching magnitudes of 3.6 and 3.7. A third of magnitude 3.4 occurred 20 minutes later.

Three other quakes over 3.0 have occurred since 11.00pm last night. The seismic activity has continued into today, with earthquakes felt by residents in the capital region and as far away as Akranes.

Comment: Last month another earthquake swarm raised concerns for big volcanic eruption in Iceland.

6.9 magnitude earthquake rocks Mindanao, Philippines

Almost two months after a series of strong earthquakes hit parts of Mindanao, a powerful tremor measuring 6.9-magnitude on the Richter scale shook anew the southern region on Sunday afternoon.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake around 2:11 p.m. and traced its epicenter 9 kilometers northwest of Matanao, Davao del Sur.

The earthquake was felt as a "destructive" tremor at Intensity VII in Matanao and Magsaysay in Davao del Sur.

It was recorded as a "very strong" earthquake at Intensity VI in Kidapawan City; General Santos City; Bansalan, Davao del Sur; Alabel and Malapatan, Sarangani; and Koronadal City.

The ground-shaking was recorded at Intensity V or "strong" shaking in Tulunan and Matalam, Cotabato; Cotabato City; Davao City; and Glan, Sarangani.

A strong 5.3-magnitude quake shook New Zealand's North Island, just hours after a lethal volcanic eruption killed five and left eight others missing. No damage or casualties have been reported following the latest tremor.

The quake struck at a shallow depth of some 25km (15 miles) around Gisborne on Tuesday, about 150km (93 miles) south of the recently erupted submarine volcano on White Island.

While local news reports said the seism could be felt in neighboring towns - including Cambridge, Hunterville, Dannevirke and Wellington - there are currently no reports of damage or injuries, nor any danger of a tsunami, according to Gisborne Civil Defense Manager Wiremu Tamati.

M3.2 earthquake rattles homes in Somerset, England

An earthquake has struck in the west of England, causing homes to shake in several villages, the British Geological Survey has said.

The 3.2 magnitude quake's epicentre was recorded near the town of Bridgwater in Somerset, the BGS confirmed.

Residents reported the "whole house rattled", with another another saying there was a "big rumble and [the] house [was] given a definite shove".

The quake hit at 22:49 GMT at a depth of three miles (5km), the BGS said.

'Bed shake'

Comment: Bridgwater is 121 miles (2 hours by car) from the Surrey fracking operation, and even further away from the one in Blackpool, where unusual but likely fracking-related quakes have been occurring with a worrying regularity. It's worth noting that also recently there was an unusually strong earthquake in France that caused a crack in the Earth's crust, leaving scientists puzzled.

An earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 jolted 158 km WNW of Hihifo, Tonga at 13:04:47 GMT on Friday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The epicenter, with a depth of 10.0 km, was initially determined to be at 15.217 degrees south latitude and 175.021 degrees west longitude.
