Splenda: The artificial sweetener that lingers indefinitely in your fat tissue

splenda gut
Sucralose is a common artificial sweetener sold under the trade name, Splenda®. The last time I went on the Splenda® website, it discussed the decades-long process of finally obtaining FDA approval.

This probably won't surprise our readers, but the findings of a new study on sucralose differ from those studies that were used to garner regulatory approval.

Unlike previous study claims - it turns out that
  1. sucralose does break down in the gut,
  2. can be found in fatty tissue
  3. it produces two fat-soluble metabolites and
  4. stays in the body indefinitely after consumption is stopped due to its affinity for fatty tissues.
Again, this is concerning - a thorough test recently found that the fat-soluble metabolites lasted for days after the ingestion of the product stopped...

NOTE: I do not in any way condone animal testing. However, these results are too important not to publish.

SOTT Focus: The Health & Wellness Show: Love Eating Crap? Blame the Food Processors

cheetos
Cookies, candy bars, pizza, chips, ice cream, french fries -- what do they all have in common? Incredibly blissful combinations of sugar, salt and fat not found in nature. This is no accident. Big Food Processors, like drug dealers, make a conscious effort to hook consumers and keep them coming back for more of the good stuff. Junk foods activate the same pleasure centers in the brain as opiate drugs. So is it any wonder that food cravings, binges and addictions are so tough to beat or that approximately 86% of humans are predicted to be obese by the year 2030?

Join us for this episode of The Health and Wellness Show where we discuss the nature and science behind the pleasure of eating, food industry tricks on creating hyper-tasty foods that we salivate over, how food addiction is not just a matter of lack of willpower and, finally, how junk food addictions can be licked for good.

And stay tuned for Zoya's Pet Health Segment where she talks about corruption in veterinary medicine, focusing on the confrontation between Dr. Robb and the vaccine industry.

How did Monsanto's Roundup get a free pass to avoid testing for its cancer-causing properties in humans?

Roundup
© Jefferey Jaxen
The mainstream Monsanto media blitz is still alive and growing as outlets attempt to report on the various angles of the recent case and its discovery documents - both now significant historical entities. Headlines and narratives from the mainstream appear to be freely reporting on the discovery documents, scientific fraud, financial losses and other important news tidbits. However there is one, gigantic elephant in the room which few, if any, in the mainstream are unpacking or questioning. How did Roundup, patented in the early 1970s, get a free pass to avoid testing for its cancer-causing properties in humans? The pigeonholed narrative by industry-bought science and Monsanto execs has been that glyphosate doesn't cause cancer. The conversation never circled back to question the entire Roundup formulation synergistically, enjoying multi-billion dollar sales profits, for its carcinogenicity.

Paleomedicina Hungary: Where doctors prescribe carnivore diet to treat chronic disease

"We believe that the PKD is the only evolutionary adapted diet for humans. Rehabilitation of chronic diseases is most effective when the diet is limited to our real physiological needs. Eating fruits and vegetables does not form part of our physiological need but are associated with risks."

(PDF) Therapeutic protocol of Paleomedicina Hungary. Available from: researchgate.net

This place (Paleomedicina) has actual doctors prescribing a high fat meat diet to successfully treat chronic disease. With hugely positive results (much more effective than medication). They've treated pregnant women, infants, and breastfeeding women as well. They have found no ill effects of the diet (they call it paleolithic ketogenic, basically a fancy term for a red meat diet).

Eventually North America will stop with the "it must be a placebo effect" and start actually treating people. Suuuuper exciting. Also extremely satisfying after years of "you're crazy". Extremely. Satisfying.

They have a website HERE. (It's in Hungarian but you can use Google Translate). The case studies are incredible.

The proven health benefits of black cumin seed oil

black cumin seed oil
Of the many ways that black seed oil benefits the body, the nine that stick out in the scientific literature tout its ability to help prevent cancer, diabetes, obesity, hair loss, skin disorders and infections like MRSA.
If you take a look at the hundreds of scientific peer-reviewed articles that have been published about black seed oil benefits, one fact is clear: There are few issues that it cannot help the body overcome. With virtually no side effects, the healing prowess of black seed oil - back from black cumin seeds - is actually quite unbelievable, and it boggles the mind that most people have never even heard of it!

Read on find out what black seed oil is all about, along with all the wonderful black seed oil benefits out there.

What Is Black Seed Oil?

Black seed oil is made from the seeds of the black cumin (Nigella sativa) plant, which belongs to the ranunculus family (Ranunculaceae). The black cumin plant is native to southwestern Asia, the Mediterranean and Africa. It has been grown for centuries for its aromatic and flavorful seeds that can be used as a spice or as an herbal medicine. (1) Black seed oil is also commonly called black cumin seed oil. Be careful, as black seed should not be confused with true cumin (Cuminum cyminum), black pepper, black sesame or black cohosh.

Comment: Many of black cumin's traditionally ascribed health benefits have been thoroughly confirmed in the biomedical literature. Since 1964, there have been at least 458 published, peer-reviewed studies referencing it. See also:

Cannabis CBD extract helps reset brain function in psychosis

brain cell green
Research from King's College London has found that a single dose of the cannabis extract cannabidiol can help reduce brain function abnormalities seen in people with psychosis. Results from a new MRC-funded trial, published in JAMA Psychiatry, provide the first evidence of how cannabidiol acts in the brain to reduce psychotic symptoms.

Cannabidiol, also referred to as CBD, is a non-intoxicating compound found in cannabis. A purified form of cannabidiol has recently been licensed in the USA as a treatment for rare childhood epilepsies, and a 2017 King's College London trial has demonstrated cannabidiol has anti-psychotic properties.

However, exactly how cannabidiol may work in the brain to alleviate psychosis has remained a mystery.

"The mainstay of current treatment for people with psychosis are drugs that were first discovered in the 1950s and unfortunately do not work for everyone," says Dr. Sagnik Bhattacharyya, from the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology & Neuroscience (IoPPN). "Our results have started unravelling the brain mechanisms of a new drug that works in a completely different way to traditional anti-psychotics."

Comment: While some studies have shown that cannabis consumption can trigger problems in people with particular mental health conditions, one wonders whether this is just another example of Big pharma meddling with a plant so as to make money from isolating and then patenting a plant based compound. Because it has been shown that by isolating a compound you also remove the synergistic benefits of the many other compounds contained within the plant.

The Atlantic sez benefits of Jordan and Mikhaila Peterson's carnivore diet are all in their heads

I know how ridiculous it sounds," Mikhaila Peterson told me recently by phone, after a whirlwind of attention gathered around the 26-year-old, who is now offering dietary advice to people suffering with conditions like hers. Or not so much dietary advice as guiding people in eating only beef.

At first glance, Peterson, who is based in Toronto, could seem to be one of the many emerging semi-celebrities with a miraculous story of self-healing-who show off postpartum weight loss in bikini Instagrams and sell one thing or another, a supplement or tonic or book or compression garment. (Not incidentally, she is the daughter of the famous and controversial pop psychologist Jordan Peterson. More on that later.) But Peterson is taking the trend in extra-professional health advice to an extreme conclusion: She is not doing sponsored posts for health products, but actively selling one-on-one counseling ($75 for a half hour) for people who want to stop eating almost everything.

Comment: What's so aggravating about an article like this is not that the author expresses skepticism - heck, both Mikhaila and her father express the same skepticism and the diet is actually working for them. It's that the author, an MD, hasn't bothered to look into the theories of why a diet such as this might actually work. There are a number of theories which take into account physiological mechanisms that could explain why the diet could be a lifesaver for certain individuals. He also hasn't looked into the history of human diets, particularly ancient and modern cultures that have survived and thrived on all-meat diets (or close to it), yet claims living on mostly meat is "impossible". It seems it's easier to mock and imply a person is crazy than to actually do a thorough investigation.

Scientists are now saying that eating red meat and cheese is good for your heart

The question of whether eating red meat is good for your health or not has been heavily debated for quite some time.

However, recent research suggests that regularly consuming unprocessed red meat and cheese can reduce your risk of an early death by improving the wellbeing of your heart.

Researchers from McMaster University in Canada conducted a study of more than 218,000 adults from more than 50 countries around the world, dividing them into five categories according to their diets.

The study concluded that eating a moderate amount of dairy and meat every day as part of a balanced diet can drastically reduce one's chances of a premature death.

Comment: For at least 40 damn years Western populations have been told to avoid red meat and animal fat like the plague because it will destroy your heart (essentially) and eat processed FAKE FOOD instead. And now, they quietly say exactly the opposite, after the job of creating an epidemic of modern illnesses has been done. It's absolutely UNCONSCIONABLE!

Blue light and macular degeneration

Blue light
Before the invention and distribution of artificial lighting, the sun was the major source of light and determined how people spent their evenings. It is easy to take for granted the extended days and added lighting. However, humans and animals are paying a price as it throws off circadian rhythms, interrupts sleep and affects the development of disease and perpetuation of animal species.

One pervasive light source comes from digital devices, which become more popular every year. Mobile device use varies, but research shows desktop device use is important during daytime hours, and mobile use increases in the evenings and at night.1

Statistics show 77 percent of Americans own a smartphone, 75 percent own a laptop or desktop computer and 50 percent own tablets; 20 percent of Americans are smartphone-only internet users and 25 percent of U.S. adults say they are "almost always" online.2

Recent research demonstrates how blue light emitted from your favorite digital device may be speeding eye damage and accelerating macular degeneration (AMD), the leading cause of blindness.3 Before sharing specifics of how blue light interacts with your eye, let's quickly review some important eye structures and nutrients for eye health.

What you need to know about long-term canned food storage

canned goods
You've likely got a nice supply of canned goods in your pantry and food storage inventory, but how long do those products truly last?

Will they still be safe to eat when a disaster arises and you need to start popping those cans open and consuming their contents?

"Best by", "sell by", "use by", "best before", and expiration dates are all terms used on food packaging, and they are often a source of confusion.

Here's what those commonly used terms actually mean, according to the USDA:
  • A "Best if Used By/Before" indicates when a product will be of best flavor or quality. It is not a purchase or safety date.
  • A "Sell-By" date tells the store how long to display the product for sale for inventory management. It is not a safety date.
  • A "Use-By" date is the last date recommended for the use of the product while at peak quality. It is not a safety date except for when used on infant formula as described below.
