As readers of this blog know I was obliterated from Wikipedia recently. Many have expressed support and told me not to get down about it. To be perfectly frank, the only time I knew I was on Wikipedia was when someone told me I was going to be removed. So it hasn't caused great psychological trauma.

In fact my feelings about this are probably best expressed on a Roman tombstone. It has been translated in different ways, but my favourite version is the following:

I was not
I was
I am not
I care not

However, whilst my removal from Wiki is, in one way, completely irrelevant in the greater scheme of things. In another way it is hugely important. As Saladin said of Jerusalem, whilst he was battling with the Christians during the crusades. 'Jerusalem is nothing; Jerusalem is everything.'

My removal from Wikipedia is nothing. My removal from Wikipedia is everything. Not because it is me, but because of what it represents. No to beat about the bush, there is a war going on out there between scientific enlightenment, and the forces of darkness.

You think that is too dramatic? Well, this is what Richard Horton - editor of the Lancet for many years - has to say.

Science has taken a turn towards darkness... Of course science cannot really turn anywhere. It is not an entity. Science is simply made up of people. The scientific method itself, is simply an attempt to discover what is factually true, by being as objective as possible and removing human bias. It is, like everything humans do, imperfect. Bias is always there.

What Horton means is that the methods used to pursue science have increasingly moved from the pure Olympian ideal, a disinterested quest for truth, to something else. Distortion, manipulation and bias. In some cases downright lies. I hesitate to use the term 'fake news', but that is what it is. What it is becoming.

CBD in marijuana may worsen glaucoma by raising eye pressure

One of the most commonly proposed uses of medical marijuana is to treat glaucoma.

But a study from researchers at Indiana University has found that a major chemical component in the substance appears to worsen the primary underpinning of the disease: a rise in pressure inside the eye.

The chemical that causes this rise in pressure is cannabidiol, or CBD, a non-psychoactive ingredient in cannabis that is increasingly marketed to consumers in products such as oil, gummies, creams and health food. It is also approved in many states as a treatment for conditions such as pediatric epilepsy.

The study was reported Dec. 14 in the journal Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science.

"This study raises important questions about the relationship between the primary ingredients in cannabis and their effect on the eye," said Alex Straiker, an associate scientist in the IU Bloomington College of Arts and Sciences' Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences, who led the study. "It also suggests the need to understand more about the potential undesirable side effects of CBD, especially due to its use in children."

A mother has issued a warning to parents after her son contracted highly contagious measles - despite him being immunised twice for it.

Helen Spilsbury, 33, says that she first noticed an itch on her son Jack on Sunday evening and thought it was a heat rash.

But by Monday the Manchester schoolboy was covered with it and was scratching all over his body.

Comment: So there's no evidence of measles circulating in the community, yet this kid gets it despite having two MMR jabs? So where did he get it from? Couldn't be the vaccine itself, could it? Nah, that's dangerous anti-vaxxer conspiracy theory.

There should be no more confusion about whether or not marijuana is effective for cancer patients. Medical marijuana is chemotherapy, natural style, for cancer patients. The two forms of hemp oil, one with THC and CBD and the other CBD alone (which is pretty much legal everywhere) provide the body with chemo-therapeutics without the danger and staggering side effects. There are many chapters in my book about cancer patients using marijuana, but in this one we present a quick overview of the science that backs up the assertion that every cancer patient and every oncologist should put medical marijuana on their treatment maps.

What you will see in this article is reference to many scientific studies that are all viewable on governmental sites. The United States government is pathetic in its dishonesty about medical marijuana both believing in it and holding patents for its medical use and claiming at the same time that it has no medical use. The federal government and still many states would rather throw innocent people in jail for using medical marijuana than be honest about how much it can help people recover from cancer and other diseases.

Vegetables sold in British supermarkets are riddled with the deadly norovirus, food safety experts have found.

The UK's Food Standards Agency (FSA) researchers discovered that one lettuce in every 20 contained the vomiting virus.

The bug - spread by human waste - was also detected in one in every 27 bags of frozen raspberries.

Experts warned that many more fresh foods may be harbouring the norovirus, which has become Britain's most common food poisoning bug.

Comment: When compared to last years figures, cases of Norovirus have been on the increase in the UK. And this month in California, there was a recent recall from a major vegetable supplier whose products were contaminated with E. coli.

Heart-breaking season: Christmas Eve the peak time for heart attacks, says study

For some, Christmas can be a time of stress instead of peace and goodwill - and a new Swedish study shows that 10 pm on Christmas Eve is the annual peak time for heart attack risk, particularly for the elderly and those with existing conditions.

Researchers analysed data from 283,014 heart attacks reported to Swedish hospitals between 1998 and 2013, and compared with weeks outside of holiday periods as a control measure.

In Sweden, Christmas Eve is actually the bigger event than Christmas Day, and researchers noted a 37 percent increased risk on this day, peaking at 10 pm. More generally there was a 15 percent increased risk over the Christmas period.

The risk was greatest in the over 75s and those with existing diabetes or heart disease. The study also noted more cases of heart attacks reported on Midsummer holidays, early mornings, and Mondays.

Comment: They're overlooking the obvious: all too many hearts are lonely/unfulfilled at Christmas.

The operation was serious and Anna felt relieved when her mother was moved from Intensive Care. But all that ended when the caring daughter found duct tape fixing her mom's bandages. The ensuing scandal saw the head doctor sacked.

Although Anna, from Blagoveshchensk in Russia's Far East, knew that her 63-year-old mother's operation went well and that she was transferred from Intensive Care. But there was no way she could have predicted that a routine visit to her mom's ward at the city's clinical hospital would end in such drama.

When Anna examined her mom, she was stunned to see that "the stitches were well-tended, but the bandages were attached to the body with duct tape instead of special medical adhesive plasters."

"How is that even possible in a surgery department where people are recovering after surgeries? How about sterility?" she asked.

The influenza season is again upon us and the CDC's blitzkrieg of fear tactics to compel every citizen to rush to their doctors, hospitals or pharmacies to get vaccinated is underway. We have witnessed this ritual many times before. It is has become an annual rite for the world's most heavily vaccinated population. Mainstream media outlets blast us with stories of the first influenza deaths and images of smiling children getting vaccinated. And this pageantry will continue for the next several months. The government has a lot of vaccines to get rid of and they can thank the media for doing their advertising for them.

However, popular attitudes towards the influenza vaccine have been waning. For the reason, we can expect the propaganda to be particularly fierce this year. The vaccine's track record is not impressive. Consistently, it fails to meet the medical establishment's promises. This is no surprise. Quite simply, influenza vaccines are horrible, ineffective drugs.

Reflect, please on the history of marketing and selling the "harmless" active ingredient in the weed-killer Round-up®. The company which Monsanto bought, had discovered this master-chelator could dissolve most metal scale deposits in boilers and pipes. But discharging the flush promptly produced an obvious plant killing effect.

In 1972 Monsanto began marketing Round-up® as an herbicide, with three claims which later proved to be misleading at best, untrue at worst (1). The first claim is that the mode of action was to block the Shikimic Acid pathway - a biochemical series of steps that throughout biology produces three diet-essential amino acids (AA), needed for all protein synthesis. These are the same three, out of the twenty coded for by all DNA-RNA synthesis, which contain phenolic rings: Phenylalanine (F), Tyrosine (Y) and Tryptophan (W). The second claim continued: since human biochemistry does not contain this pathway, the herbicide is harmless. This immediately raised the question: Where then do we get the three AA for all our own synthesis, and the answer is two-fold: from our diet and from our gut microbiome.

Vaccine vs. Disease Trade-offs: Cheating children's immune systems

These days, one policy-maker after another seems to be promoting no-exceptions vaccination policies-hawking an incessant and growing barrage of childhood vaccines that begins prenatally and continues throughout childhood. Despite these efforts, the narrative that vaccines are keeping children healthy is rapidly crumbling. Rates of chronic and autoimmune illness in American children have climbed to obscene levels (54% at last count), concurrently with rising vaccination rates-while U.S. life expectancy is falling.

None of the individuals who present vaccination as an unquestioned good ever discusses the trade-offs involved in tampering with the exquisitely sophisticated human immune system, especially during a child's earliest developmental stages, nor do they acknowledge that two of vaccination's basic premises are patently false:
  1. It has become clear that the short-lived antibody production that vaccines seek to induce is nothing like the comprehensive lifelong immunity that results from a natural infection;
  2. An honest look at health statistics shows that vaccines exact a high cost when they re-engineer children's immune systems; rather than entering adulthood in robust health, many children are paying the piper via some form of immune dysfunction at some point down the road.

Comment: According to the Alliance for Natural Health, the Mumps vaccine proves ineffective:
In the early 2000s, researchers began to notice an alarming pattern: those vaccinated against mumps were still becoming ill with it - at alarming rates.

This worrisome trend is accelerating: in April 2014, the New Jersey Department of Health warned of an outbreak of mumps at the Stevens Institute of Technology. Eight cases of mumps were confirmed - yet all of those infected had been fully vaccinated with two documented doses of the MMR shot.

What's going on here? Is the vaccine losing its efficacy - or was it never effective in the first place?
The effectiveness of the MMR vaccine in preventing mumps is - according to Dr. William Schaffer, a pro-vaccine researcher at Vanderbilt University - "not so good." A CDC study of a 2009 - 2010 mumps outbreak in the northeastern US found that a full 77% of those sickened in 2009 outbreak had been vaccinated.
