Several stories appearing in local media this week highlight changing environmental conditions in western Canada, and suggest a continued overall pattern of cooling and not warming, as some climate change pundits still maintain.

From The Weather Network spring forecast...
Much of Canada has struggled to maintain any consistent warm weather, and that struggle will continue through most of April as winter will still have a few more parting shots for most Canadians. The coldest weather (relative to normal) will be found across western and central Canada.
British Columbia

The arrival of consistent spring weather will be delayed this year across the province. Cooler than normal temperatures are expected, especially during the first half of the season across most of B.C.
Prairies

Consistent spring weather will be delayed this year as we expect a colder than normal March and April across the region.
Ontario and Quebec

A sluggish start to spring is expected as colder than normal temperatures will dominate during the second half of March and much of April. In addition, we have a higher than typical threat for winter-like storms, especially for central and northern regions.

For the first time in nearly two decades, a beach in Mumbai - one of the most populated cities in the world - is crawling with tiny baby turtles, proving that life truly does, uh, find a way.

Versova beach stretches along the eastern side of Mumbai, looking out onto the Arabian Sea. While olive ridley turtles are known to nest on other beaches around India, this is the first time in close to 20 years that they have done so in Mumbai, with around 90 hatchlings making their way into the sea.

Bizarre cloud formation over western Arizona turns heads

A bizarre cloud formation over western Arizona Monday night had locals in Phoenix and Yuma pondering whether there was a rocket launch out of California's nearby Vandenberg Air Force Base or maybe even a visit from some rainbow friends.

However, there were no rocket launches scheduled to take place at the base Monday night, so it is most likely to be a curious cloud phenomenon, KVOA reported.

According to some viewers, the formation looked like cloud iridescence, which occurs when tiny water droplets or ice crystals in clouds diffract light producing beautiful rainbow colors in clouds.

Extreme weather and avalanches isolate Arctic community in Norway

The municipality of Berlevåg, in Norway's Lapland (Finnmark) has been experiencing problems of food deliveries and transport for six consecutive days. An avalanche and heavy snowing blocked the county road leading to the village on Friday, March 23, 2018. In addition, the ship from Hurtigruten cruise lines has had problems to dock due to bad weather conditions. On March 26, The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate issued nationwide avalanche warnings due to the huge amounts of snow in the mountains and suddenly shifting temperatures.

Since Friday, the only road leading to Berlevåg, county road 890, has been largely closed due to the danger of avalanche. It was managed to be opened for short periods of time on Sunday and Monday by Norwegian Public Roads Administration. On Tuesday evening, a Hurtigruten ship was allowed to dock in the village, which was empty of food supplies like vegetables and milk. The avalanche danger level remains high, level 4 on many parts in Norway's Lapland (Finnmark).
