Tuesday's historic blizzard in Labrador shut down everything from roads and flights to provincial government offices and schools.
A record-setting blizzard shut down parts of Labrador, forcing the closures of roads, provincial government offices and flights Tuesday, as well as schools in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, North West River and the regional College of the North Atlantic campus.
The potent low had already slammed Ontario and Quebec with a blast of widespread, heavy snow last weekend, and also brought strong winds and heavy rains to Newfoundland through Tuesday.
More than 100 pilot whales and bottlenose dolphins are dead after being stranded on the Chatham Islands, with 26 of them having to be euthanised.
The Department of Conservation was notified of the mass stranding on a remote Chatham Islands beach at midday on Sunday.
Ninety-seven whales and three dolphins died in the stranding, and 26 of the animals were alive but very weak.
DOC biodiversity ranger Jemma Welch said the 26 were euthanised due to rough seas conditions, and the almost certainty of the stranding attracting great white sharks to the area.
Rescue teams came to the rescue of dozens of people as heavy rain caused flooding and power outages nationwide over the weekend, an MDA spokesperson said. No injuries were reported.
Snow also fell on Mount Hermon on Saturday morning for the first time this season.
The Arava Rescue Unit reported on Saturday evening that they had rescued a group of 35 hikers, all above the age of 50, who had been reported missing earlier in the day in the Makhtesh HaKatan (Small Crater) area in southern Israel.
According to the report, the group left Mitzpeh Tamar on their way to the Ashmedai Gate (also known as "the devils gate,") which lies at the entrance to the small crater, losing the trail after nightfall.

Snow-clearing machinery of the Galyat Development Authority (GDA), the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority (KPHA) and the works department has been deployed at various places of Galyat to meet any eventuality.
Heavy rain caused flash flooding in parts of KwaZulu-Natal, Free State and Gauteng, South Africa, from 20 November 2020. Four flood- and rain-related fatalities were reported.
Damage was reported to roads and infrastructure. Local media said one person died after being swept away while trying to cross a river with strong currents in Umlazi, KwaZulu-Natal.
Severe flooding was reported in Tshwane, Gauteng, with roads and bridges damaged and vehicles left stranded in flood water. Three young people died in a storm water trench in Hammanskraal on 21 November. The circumstances of the deaths are being investigated by Tshwane authorities.
Almost 100mm of rain fell in 24 hours to 21 November in Pretoria.

Toronto crushed a snowfall record for Nov. 22 with Sunday's winter storm, but all that snow should be gone by the end of the week with the arrival of warmer temperatures.
Environment Canada had issued a snowfall warning, and the weather didn't disappoint. According to the weather agency, 19.4 centimetres of snow fell at Pearson airport, breaking the previous Nov. 22 record of 7.6 cm in 2007.
The last time a similarly significant snowfall occurred around this time of the year was nearly 70 years ago on Nov. 6, 1951, when the city was hit with 13.2 centimetres of snow.
Over 200 people were rescued from floods in southern Italy over the weekend 20 to 22 November after more than 450mm of rain in 48 hours.
Torrential rain the Italy's Calabria Region caused severe flooding in the provinces of Crotone and Cosenza, causing widespread damage. The regional government has requested a state of emergency.
Italy's fire and rescue service, Vigili del Fuoco, said teams had carried out over 400 interventions for flooding and rescued 200 people.
More people have died in landslides caused by heavy rain in the department of Antioquia, Colombia.
The department's disaster authority, DAGRAN Antioquia, reported that a landslide struck in the village of Cachirime in Puerto Valdivia, Valdivia municipality on 23 November 2020.
Two commercial buildings were buried in the landslide. After search and rescue operations were completed, DAGRAN Antioquia confirmed that 7 people had died and 12 were injured.
The fatalities in Puerto Valdivia bring the total number of rain-related deaths in the department to 17 since the start of the second rainy season in September this year. According to DAGRAN, landslides caused 1 fatality in Yarumal and 5 in Dabeiba, while flash floods caused 1 fatality in Betulia, 1 in Chigorodó and 2 in Mutatá where floods struck on 21 November after the Sucio River overflowed. Three minors were rescued by helicopter.
Tornadoes hit the Girne (Kyrenia) district of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) late Friday, inflicting significant damage on businesses, homes and the power grid.
Coastal settlements of Ozanköy, Çatalköy, Karşıyaka and Lapta Hotels Region were particularly damaged with strong winds ripping off rooftops, trees and power lines. Three people were slightly wounded due to falling objects.
The Teknecik Power Plant, the main electricity plant of the TRNC, was also affected as a transformer blew up, causing blackouts in the town of Girne and adjacent settlements.
