Members of high school football team used forced sex acts in hazing rituals

lake zurich football team
Members of the Lake Zurich High School football team routinely used sexual assault and acts of degradation to haze teammates while coaches and administrators ignored the abuse, according to a federal lawsuit filed by two alleged victims.

Antonio Romanucci, a Chicago attorney representing two former members of the 2016 football team, said the hazing goes back at least 20 years and remained hidden because of " 'Lord of the Flies'-type tactics" that kept participants and victims quiet.

"They were brutally mocked, teased, humiliated, embarrassed and emotionally harmed, all in the name of team bonding," Romanucci said at a Wednesday news conference.

The lawsuit adds another act to a drama that has played out since two Lake Zurich football coaches were placed on administrative leave for unstated reasons before a November playoff game.

Lake Zurich Community Unit School District 95 soon revealed it was looking into "inappropriate activity" that happened in the locker room after a football team dinner in late October. Lake Zurich police and the Lake County State's Attorney's office also investigated but declined to bring charges. A probe by the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is ongoing.

San Francisco police suspending cooperation with controversial FBI terrorism task force

The San Francisco Police Department is suspending cooperation with the FBI's Joint Terrorism Task Forces, or JTTFs, that have been accused by civil liberties activists of specifically targeting Arabs and Muslims, and violating their First Amendment rights.

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) welcomed the move, which comes amid mounting concerns that law enforcers could be used to spy on Muslims and critics of the Trump administration.

"Ending SF's relationship with the JTTF is instrumental in fighting against the targeting of Arabs and Muslims through local and federal law enforcement, particularly in this moment," Arab Resource and Organizing Center (AROC) Executive Director Lara Kiswani said in a statement.

"Joint Terrorism Task Forces have had a chilling effect on the First Amendment rights of Arab and Muslim communities throughout the country," President of the San Francisco chapter of the National Lawyers Guild Nina Farnia added.

"The Task Forces have led raids of activists' homes and offices for merely engaging in the right to dissent. In the face of ever-increasing repression by the federal government, we applaud local agencies' decision to suspend participation in the JTTF," she stressed.

'Fancy Bears' hackers leak IOC letter showing McLaren report lacked evidence of Russian doping

In an exclusive leak to RT, hacktivist group 'Fancy bears' revealed documents showing the International Olympics Committee (IOC) was not satisfied with the proof in McLaren's reports on Russian doping and asked over 50 questions about 16 of those accused.

The group called 'Fancy Bear,' which is known for their hacks of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA)'s medical data on international athletes, has now come by a letter from the IOC to Canadian lawyer Richard McLaren - the author of the infamous WADA-commissioned report on allegedly widespread state-sponsored doping practices in Russia.

In the letter, the IOC demands that McLaren provide evidence to support his allegations that Russian Sports authorities and FSB officers were in on the doping plot. The letter provides an 11-page table with 16 names and entities that are mentioned in the reports, each followed by a lengthy number of questions regarding the person's alleged links to the doping case.

The report, which was published in two parts in mid-July and December of last year, alleges that the Russian Ministry of Sport and the Center of Sports Preparation of the National Teams of Russia took part in swapping test samples at a WADA-accredited laboratory in Moscow, while also claiming that the Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) had assisted in the alleged plot. However, it failed to say how the FSB allegedly managed to open the bottles containing the samples. McLaren claimed that the entire network had "operated for the protection of doped Russian athletes" within a "state-directed failsafe system" using "the disappearing positive [test] methodology."

Comment: As more evidence comes out, it's being made starkly clear that the Russia doping scandal is a witch hunt against meant to demonize Russia in the eyes of the Western public. See also:

'Become a suicide bomber!': Whistleblower says artist's spoof Navy ads are accurate

Spoof Royal Navy recruitment posters, which claim sailors on board Britain's nuclear submarines are effectively suicide bombers, have won the approval of Trident safety and security whistleblower William McNeilly.

The posters point out that if a Trident submarine actually launched its nuclear missiles it would very likely be destroyed in a counterattack.

This, they claim, makes nuclear submariners little more than suicide bombers, whose job is to kill millions of civilians.

The satirical posters have appeared at bus stops across London.

The company developing the Dakota Access Pipeline has filed a motion to seal or redact certain "sensitive information" from the public, saying they believe terrorists could use it to cause damage to the pipeline.

In a motion filed late on Wednesday, Dakota Access LLC, a subsidiary of Energy Transfer Partners, asked Judge James Boasberg of the US District Court for the District of Columbia to enter a protective order that would keep 11 documents containing confidential information from the public, Buzzfeed reports.

Dakota Access argues that the information could be useful to "terrorists or others with the malicious intent to damage the pipeline in a way that maximizes harm to the environment."

US retailer Nordstrom drops Ivanka Trump's brand

American department store chain Nordstrom has decided to stop selling products from the Ivanka Trump fashion line this spring season. The retailer says the brand's declining sales are behind the decision.

"Based on the brand's performance, we've decided not to buy it for this season," Nordstrom said in a statement, adding that it commonly cuts about ten percent of carried brands and refreshes with a similar number of replacements.

The Ivanka Trump brand sells women's clothing, shoes, and handbags. The products were removed from the store's website on Thursday.

Nordstrom had already bought Ivanka Trump spring season apparel, according to a spokesperson for the brand, as quoted by CNN Money.

The brand has come under fire since Donald Trump's presidential campaign began. The online 'Grab Your Wallet' campaign, critical of the US President's administration, urges shoppers not to buy goods connected to Ivanka Trump or Donald Trump, as well as to boycott retailers selling them.

Shannon Coulter, who launched the campaign, has been tracking the brand's inventory levels on Nordstrom's website for the last couple of months.

Comment: Why don't these 'wallet warriors' do something objectively useful, like supporting the BDS movement against Israel?

SOTT Focus: There's Something Rotten in the State of Policing in the USA

I read the most ridiculous headline recently, something that at first glance I presumed had to be 'fake news.' The headline was: Cop attacks innocent woman, tasers her for no reason, calls it 'horseplay', then gives her a 'Sorry I Tased You' cake.

Sounds like a joke, right? I did some digging and the headline is technically not accurate. The officer in question never gave the woman a cake, he just texted her this picture:
'Sorry I Tased You' homemade cake
© The Free Thought Project
The problem here is that everything else is true. This cop showed up at this woman's work for no reason, harassed her, stole her drink and then tased her when she tried to get it back.
The lawsuit states that the officer "used his apparent law enforcement authority to intimidate, harass, and threaten [the] plaintiff ... about her personal life. Because Wohlers did not like how [the] Plaintiff failed to respond to his show of authority, Wohlers became increasingly aggressive toward employees at the apartment complex's office, including with Ms. Byron."

Ms. Byron says that the officer then took a Sweet Tea that was sitting on her desk and refused to give it back to her. When she attempted to get her drink back, the officer tased her in the throat and chest and then jumped on top of her when she fell to the ground, placing his knees firmly on her chest and forcefully removing the taser prongs.
Now, if you or I were to walk into someone's office, harass, steal and attack someone with a deadly weapon, we'd be in jail, facing harsh penalties. This cop, however, was never charged and quietly resigned from his department without any legal consequences. His department defended him, calling this a simple case of 'horseplay', as if this was two young children having a friendly tussle in a schoolyard.

Can you imagine the mentality of someone who can conflate horseplay with assault? How about imagining them having the authority to exercise deadly force on civilians? Reducing assault to 'horseplay' demonstrates the way in which accountability is sidelined, not only in this particular case, but across the US. Obviously, there's a serious problem here.

A transgender teenager is suing his former school for discrimination after they refused to let him wear a boy's uniform.

The 16-year-old, who was born female, said that staff at Hereford Cathedral School told him it was a 'phase' and he was 'attention seeking'.

The teenager, who wished to remain anonymous, said the £13,000-a-year school didn't take him 'seriously', despite being supported by a family GP as he began his transition.
