Mexico City - Some 7,667 people were killed in Mexico in the first quarter of 2018, up 20 percent on the same period last year, making it the most violent year in two decades, government figures showed Sunday.

In 2017, the figure stood at 6,406 violent deaths, according to the Mexican security services.

The worst month was March, when 2,729 people were killed, most of them shot dead. January's figure stood at 2,549 murders, with another 2,389 in February.

The bloodshed follows a proliferation of gangs involved in drug trafficking, as well as stealing fuel, kidnappings, extortion and other criminal activities.

In 2017, a total of 25,339 people were killed in Mexico, the highest number since monitoring began 10 years earlier.

The violence comes as Mexico gears up for a July 1 ballot that will include presidential elections as well as a vote for the two branches of Congress and a number of local seats.

Comment: Mexico continues its downward spiral towards social disintegration. With presidential elections around the corner, it is anyone's guess what will happen in the next few months.

RT's Lee Camp asks Rania Khalek: Why do liberals support 'madman' Trump's Syria strikes? (VIDEO)

Liberals and pundits begging Donald Trump to drop more bombs on Syria - even as they paint the president as a "madman" - is nothing short of insane, independent journalist Rania Khalek told Redacted Tonight's Lee Camp.

During her discussion with Camp, Khalek, who has reported from Syria, marveled at the cognitive dissonance recently on display from the self-described "resistance" movement.

"What about all these liberals who seem to line up behind every war. I mean, how can you still call yourself left-wing?" Camp asked his guest.

Comment: Curious creatures, those who can't stand Trump but love war. Do we need any further proof that nothing is left of the actual 'Left'?

Syrian rebels evacuate Ad-Dumayr city to north Aleppo via dozens of buses

syrian rebels evacuate
Video footage has been released by Hezbollah-linked media showing dozens of buses preparing to evacuate Syrian militants from the city of Ad-Dumayr in northeastern Damascus province to northern Aleppo province.

The event saw some 1,500 Jaysh al-Islam fighters depart Ad-Dumayr after being present in inside the city for many years during which time they used it as a stronghold.

Following the departure of insurgents from Ad-Dumayr, Syrian security forces entered the city on Thursday afternoon and raised the national flag above it, thus signalling its return to government control.

The Skripal case: Yet another dodgy British dossier

The British government shared what was supposedly a dossier containing sensitive intelligence to convince allies and EU member states to support its accusation of Russian culpability in the poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal in Salisbury, England on March 4.

But like the infamous 2003 "dodgy dossier" prepared at the direction of Prime Minister Tony Blair to justify British involvement in the U.S. invasion of Iraq, the intelligence dossier on the Salisbury poisoning turns out to have been based on politically-motivated speculation rather than actual intelligence.

British officials used the hastily assembled "intelligence" briefing to brief the North Atlantic Council on March 15, the European Foreign Affairs Council on March 19 and the European summit meeting in Brussels on March 23.

Comment: Yet another 'dodgy dossier' to convince those in power of complete and total disinformation. The Skripal case is on such faulty ground it's amazing anyone still buys it.

Russian reporter killed in Syria

Syria

A correspondent for Russian media company has been killed in Syria, head of Russia's Chechen Republic head Ramsan Kadyrov reported.

A string correspondent for Russian Chechen Republic's media company "Grozny" has been killed in Syria, according to the Republic's head Ramsan Kadyrov who reported it in a social media post in Vkontakte.

Syrian national Ihab Balan has been shot dead in Syria, Kadyrov said, expressing his condolences to the relatives of the correspondent as well as to the staff of the broadcaster.

The Chechen leader has also condemned in strongest terms the activity of Daesh* terror organization, saying that the terrorists "yet again revealed their true colours by killing a man of the most peaceful profession."

Previous year, Russian Defense Ministry reported that Russian television reporters of Russia's NTV and Zvezda broadcasters and five Russian servicemen have been injured in an explosion by a remotely detonated by terrorists bomb in a residential district of Deir ez-Zor.

Humanity doomed: Body mod fans drilling holes in their heads to expand their minds

trepanation

Getting a tattoo is a big deal for some - but the current generation of young people are looking to push the boundaries of body modification in ways barely imaginable.

Trepanning, the act of drilling a hole into your skull and allowing it to heal over, is one trend starting to gain more traction on the underground body mod scene.

Body mod expert and the man responsible for promoting the "Bagelhead" movement, Ryoichi Keroppy Maeda, gave Daily Star Online his take on the strange phenomenon.

The process dates back more than 8,000 years, but could still be a bridge too far for extreme modding, he said.

Comment: Is there any more evidence needed that humanity is losing its collective minds (figuratively and literally)? The constant competition and one-upmanship obviously present in this subculture is leading to extreme and dangerous territory. If people want to do this to themselves, they're welcome to it - we'll just sit on the sidelines and call them sick and crazy.

ZDF journalist shocks German MSM by reporting that Douma incident was false-flag attack

uli gack zdf
Uli Gack, a reporter with the German ZDF, drops a truth bomb
The alleged chemical attack in the Syrian city of Douma was staged by local militants, who tried to frame it as a Syrian Army strike, a German TV correspondent, who travelled to Damascus, has said publicly, citing local witnesses.

"People told us in a very convincing manner that this whole story was staged," Uli Gack, a reporter with the German ZDF public broadcaster, said (referring to the alleged Douma chemical attack) while he spoke live on ZDF Heute ('Today') show on Satuday.

Gack had travelled to Syria and visited one of the refugee camps near Damascus, where "some 20,000 people from Eastern Ghouta and particularly from Douma" were living.

The scene of the attack, which allegedly took place on April 7, was in fact the "command post" of a local Islamist group, the reporter said, citing the witnesses he was able to speak to at the refugee camp.

England tries to extend MI5 and police powers, will target those 'vulnerable to radicalization'

UK police and domestic intelligence agency MI5 will get new powers to round up suspected terrorists before they strike, including targeting radicalization-prone communities, as terror threats grow, according to a media report.

The plan calls for a focus on "communities where the threat from terrorism and radicalization is highest," according to documents obtained by the Sunday Times.

The police services and domestic intelligence agency MI5 will be focusing on individuals "who are vulnerable to radicalization or who are (or have been) of interest to the police and the security and intelligence agencies due to their possible links to terrorist activities, but who are not currently the subject of any active investigations," the document outlines.

Comment: Needless to say, if MI5 didn't abet so much of the terror we have seen in the UK and elsewhere, there wouldn't now be a call to grant them more powers - which will likely soon be used against anyone who speaks out against the criminal acts of the UK government.

IDF violence against Palestinians in Gaza continues into 4th week

gaza protest 2018
Demonstrations and protests are fundamental rights. Israel lawlessly considers them incitement and terrorism.

For the fourth straight Great March of Return Friday, Israeli soldiers initiated violence, including live fire, against thousands of defenseless Gazans demonstrating for their rights near the border fence.

According to the Palestinian Health Ministry, four Gazans were killed, another 729 injured, many from live fire, including 41, children, 12 women and one journalist.

Mohammad Ibrahim Ayyoub, aged-15, died from an exploding dum dum bullet to the head. Three others died from live fire wounds to the head and/or the neck.

The Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) said "(f)or the fourth week in a row and upon a decision by the Israeli highest military and political echelons, the Israeli forces used lethal force against the peaceful protesters, who did not pose any threat to the soldiers' lives."

Since Good Friday, nearly 40 Gazans were lethally shot, thousands of others injured, (including 22 journalists and 9 paramedics), hundreds from live fire - the world community doing nothing to stop the carnage, nothing to hold Israel accountable for atrocities too grave to ignore.

Comment: So while the US/Israel screams 'bloody murder' at Assad and bombs Syria, the Israelis terrorize those in Gaza and no one bats an eye. See also:

Toronto chef refuses to display vegan slogan, so protesters attempt to shine it on restaurant with projector

We're not going to - there's no way,' chef and owner Michael Hunter said. 'It's like eco-terrorism, extortion, whatever you want to call it'

A Toronto chef facing another bout of vegan protests outside his west-end restaurant this week has been offered a way out: display an animal rights slogan in the restaurant's street-front window and the protests will stop.

The slogan reads "Animals' lives are their right. In their desire to live and capacity to suffer, a dog, is a pig, is a chicken, is a human. Reject speciesism."

Comment: Anti-human vegan extremists try to ruin a man's restaurant, so he butchers and eats deer leg in front of them
