Culture wars: The great Musk meltdown

elon musk
Elon Musk
Nothing terrifies the woke set more than free speech.

One of the few pleasures of the current culture war is to observe the hysteria of its chief antagonists whenever something doesn't go their way. A couple of weeks ago, it was the frenzy over the UK government's announcement that Channel 4 was likely to be privatised. MP Claudia Webb claimed that the government's plan was 'not freedom or independence' but rather 'the seedbed of fascism'. She was clutching those pearls so hard that she was in danger of breaking her fingers.

And now, the news that Elon Musk's bid to buy Twitter has been successful has caused a predictable meltdown of volcanic proportions. In the unbridled mania among identitarian leftists, we are seeing evidence that they have not learned the lessons of Brexit or the election of Donald Trump, which they similarly treated as portents of the apocalypse. It takes an infantile mind not to accept that democracy works on the basis of the loser's consent, the principle that - as Roger Scruton put it - 'We respect our fellow citizens even when they do not vote our way, because the government is not "mine" or "yours" but "ours"'.

Comment: From the Babylon Bee, whose cancellation on Twitter set it all in motion:

Twitter transforms into pleasant workplace, after all the angry Leftists quit in protest

New incoming Twitter boss Elon Musk responded to one of the most controversial aspects of the 2020 presidential election on Tuesday after the company unanimously approved his offer to acquire the social media platform for $44 billion.

Musk weighed in on Twitter's decision to censor an explosive story that was published by the New York Post about then-Democrat presidential nominee Joe Biden's son, Hunter Biden, and a laptop that purportedly belongs to Hunter that is filled with content that was problematic for his father's campaign.

"Vijaya Gadde, the top censorship advocate at Twitter who famously gaslit the world on Joe Rogan's podcast and censored the Hunter Biden laptop story, is very upset about the @elonmusk takeover," political commentator Saagar Enjeti wrote on Twitter.

A California man was arrested and booked Tuesday after he allegedly posed as a girl online to lure more than 80 children into making pornographic videos, police said.

Demetrius Carl Davis, 24, was arrested by the Sacramento County Sheriff's Office after an investigation identified more than 80 child victims that Davis allegedly groomed into doing and filming sex acts that he saved on his cell phone and computer, Fox 40 of Sacramento reported.

Davis would pose as "Lizzy" to communicate with children, often ages 6 to 13, before convincing them to do and record sexual actions with their siblings or other children, said sheriff's office spokesperson Sgt. Rod Grassmann.

Macron's re-election masks deep French malaise

French President Emmanuel Macron sailed to a re-election victory on April 24 with 58.5% of the vote over populist challenger Marine Le Pen's 41.4%. But his mandate to govern France has taken a hit.

According to a voting day Ipsos Sopra Steria poll, 42% of second-round voters who ultimately chose Macron, only did so to block Le Pen - routinely portrayed as dangerously far-right in the mainstream French press - and not because they overtly support Macron and his program. The President even acknowledged this phenomenon in his victory speech.

The math therefore suggests that Macron's actual support among the French who bothered to vote in the final round (with a 53-year record high of 28% of them choosing not to) was only about 41%. Hardly the resounding victory portrayed in the fawning praise of European Union Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. "Together, we will move France and Europe forward," said the bureaucrat, who was elected by even fewer French than Macron (that is, zero).

Ukraine apologizes to Japan for 'fascism' video

In a video condemning Russians as fascists, Ukraine's Twitter account showed wartime emperor Hirohito alongside Mussolini and Hitler.

The Ukrainian government apologized to Japan after it released an anti-Russian video ending with a shot of Adolf Hitler, Benito Mussolini, and Emperor Hirohito, describing the three as fascists. Japanese politicians insist that Hirohito was not responsible for Japan's wartime actions.

The video, first posted nearly a month ago, condemns Russian President Vladimir Putin and describes the Russian political system as "ruscism." It closes with images of Germany's Hitler, Italy's Mussolini, and Japan's Hirohito, along with the text "Fascism and Nazism were defeated in 1945. We will fight ruscism, here and now."

Comment: This is nothing but lazy propaganda from actual fascists.

One of the many sons of convicted child rapist and polygamist church leader Warren Jeffs is speaking out about his time with his "manipulative" father — and how he is "blazing" a new path for himself, which includes a significant name change.

Wendell Jeffson, 21, was raised on a 1,700-acre ranch near Eldorado, Texas, with his nearly 50 brothers and sisters.

His father, Warren Jeffs, was a self-proclaimed prophet of the Fundamentalist Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints (FLDS). He rose to fame in the '90s before being placed on the FBI's Top 10 Most Wanted List and convicted in 2011 of sexually assaulting two teen girls he married, claiming they were his "spiritual" wives.

After Taylor Lorenz and the Washington Post doxxed anonymous Twitter account Libs of Tik Tok then denied it, YouTuber Tim Pool of Timcast bought a billboard in Times Square, New York, to call them out.

"The Washington Post and Taylor Lorenz Doxxed @libsoftiktok. They included a link to private work details and an address listed as Libs' private home. They lied about it so I got an ad in Times Square calling them out. Thanks to @JeremyDBoreing for the assist," Pool wrote on Twitter.

"Hey WAPO!" The billboard reads. "Democracy dies in darkness. That's why we're shining a light on you. Taylor Lorenz doxxed @libsoftiktok"

The Great Reset: Capitalism for the rich and socialism for the poor

obey consume reset
The standard leftist refrain about "advanced capitalism" is that it amounts to "socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor." Like most leftist notions, this idea represents almost the exact opposite of the truth. The system they refer to is anything but socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor. Capitalists do not want socialism for themselves and capitalism for the rest. Capitalists seek profit, which can only come under a capitalist system.

Of course, the phrase "socialism for the rich and capitalism for the poor" is premised on the leftist belief that socialism is obviously beneficial for those living under it, a veritable land of milk and honey, while capitalism is a nefarious, dog-eat-dog, every-man-for-himself "anarchy," where the dogs fight each other for the scraps and many necessarily starve. Socialism is to be sought and capitalism to be avoided, at all costs. But the truth of the matter is that capitalism is the productive system that creates wealth and rightfully distributes it, while socialism is the consumptive system that restricts the creation of wealth and wrongfully devours it.

Why is this the case? In socializing the means of production, socialism disincentivizes personal, private investment in capital formation, including capital in oneself. Under socialism, private investment in capital resources, including in oneself, is discouraged (or disallowed). Socialism thus favors the noninvestor, the nonproducer, and the nonuser of the means of production and disfavors (or disallows) the private investor, the producer, and the user of the means of production. Therefore, fewer people will undertake these roles, and capital formation will decline; less appropriation of natural resources, less development of new factors of production, and less upkeep of old factors of production will occur.1
