Instead of digging into Donald Trump's alleged "Russia ties," the world would be better off focusing more on what billionaire political activist George Soros is doing, the former leader of the UK Independence Party, Nigel Farage, has said.

In comments broadcast by Fox News on Sunday, Farage said that even though Soros hasn't done anything illegal, "nation-state democracies" should be concerned about the billions the 87-year-old financier has been spending worldwide for left-wing causes.

"We all need to wake up to who George Soros is and how big his [Open Society Foundations] organization is," Farage warned.

Turkish warships block Cypriot offshore drilling in high seas standoff

Cyprus has accused Turkey of obstructing a drilling rig from reaching an exploration area in the east Mediterranean. The Italian energy firm Eni was set to undertake exploratory drilling for natural gas.

The Saipem 12000 drill ship was en route to an area south-east of Cyprus when it was stopped by Turkish warships and told to go no further due to military activities in the destination area, according to a spokesman for Eni quoted by Reuters.

Turkey, which does not have diplomatic relations with Cyprus, says that some areas of the so-called exclusive economic zone (EEZ) of Cyprus are under Turkish jurisdiction. The island was split some 45 years ago between the internationally-recognized, Greek Cypriot Republic of Cyprus in the south and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, recognized only by Turkey.

The GOP is trying to lose the amnesty and immigration fight

Mitch McConnell

GOP Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has devised an immigration debate this week which can help an alliance of Democrats and roughly 15 business-first Republican Senators push an amnesty through the Senate while blocking President Donald Trump's pro-American reforms.

"I think this is an effort that is set up to fail [Trump and] is not set up to help Americans," said Rosemary Jenks, government relations director at NumbersUSA. She continued:
This [Senate debate] is a very serious threat - screwing up the immigration debate will cost the Republicans the House and potentially even the Senate [in November], which means President Trump gets impeached.

US Secretary of Defense James Mattis says investigators are looking into reports that the Syrian government used sarin gas in recent chemical attacks, but there is no evidence of the gas usage so far, US media reported on Friday.

"We do not have evidence," Mattis told reporters according to Politico.

Mattis added it appears chlorine was used in the attacks, but "we are even more concerned about the possibility of sarin use."

Netanyahu: Israel 'dealt heavy blow' to Iran & Syria - Syrian MP challenges Israel, says 'Try us'

Israeli airstrikes against Iranian and Syrian targets have dealt a "serious blow" to Tehran and Damascus, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said. Israel will continue to "strike back," he added.

"Yesterday we dealt a serious blow to the armies of Iran and Syria," the prime minister said, referring to the airstrikes conducted by the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) against targets on Syrian territory on Saturday. "We will continue to strike back at any attempt to harm us," he told ministers at his weekly cabinet meeting, as cited by Israeli media.

"We made it unequivocally clear to everyone that our rules of engagement have not changed in any way," Netanyahu said."This has been our policy and will remain our policy," he added, apparently indicating that Tel Aviv does not intend to change its stance on Syria.

Comment: An agitated Israeli military has reportedly deployed anti-missile systems to the Syrian border, a day after it lost an advanced F-16 warplane in Syria's first serious air defense operation to confront Israeli violations of its airspace.
The Jerusalem Post on Sunday cited witnesses as saying that they had seen convoys of "missile defense batteries" north-bound near the city of Baka al-Gharbiya. It said others had posted photos of "trucks carrying the batteries on central highways in northern Israel."

The report said the Israeli army had "refused to comment."

Early on Saturday morning, reportedly eight Israeli warplanes were deployed to target positions inside Syria. The Syrian military, which has previously absorbed occasional Israeli strikes, activated its air defense systems and shot down at least one Israeli F-16.
A Syrian MP has challenged Israel to attack again after Syrian air defense units successfully destroyed an Israeli jet yesterday that attacked Syrian Army positions.
Fares Shehabi, the MP for Aleppo, is known for his provocative tweets, and this was no different.

"To all scared Israelis: do you know we hit your fancy F16 & F15 with our old stock S200?! Guess what, we also have brand new stuff for you if you decide to escalate.. Try us. Please," he said.

Syrian government gives official statement excoriating Coalition for bombing in Deir Ezzor

US coalition forces
The Syrian Foreign Ministry issued an official statement on Thursday, condemning the latest bombing conducted by the U.S. Coalition on the pro-government forces in Deir Ezzor.

"This new aggression, which constitutes a war crime and a crime against humanity is directly in support of terrorism; it also reveals the disgusting nature of America's intentions against the sovereignty, territorial integrity, and people of Syria," the statement began

"The Syrian Foreign Ministry urges the international community to hold the so-called 'International Coalition' responsible for this latest massacre. We hope this will compel them to stop their crimes and attacks that have killed and wounded thousands of people, including women, children, and the elderly, along with also destroying the public and private infrastructure of Syria," the statement concluded.

'Hire the best and fire the worst': Trump plans to overhaul the civil service

Trump you're fired
President Trump will seek to "hire the best and fire the worst" federal government employees under the most ambitious proposal to overhaul the civil service in 40 years, officials said.

The measures will be outlined in the budget plan that Trump will send to Congress Monday, said four Office of Management and Budget officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because the budget hasn't been released.

Trump foreshadowed the proposal in a line in his State of the Union address last week: "Tonight, I call on Congress to empower every Cabinet Secretary with the authority to reward good workers and to remove federal employees who undermine the public trust or fail the American people," he said.

Trump is using the VA Accountability Act, which gave the Secretary of Veterans Affairs greater authority to fire and discipline workers, as a model. The White House says that law has resulted in the dismissal of 1,470 employees, the suspension of 443, demotions for 83 others last year.

Syrian Army Finds US-Made Arms in Terrorists' Positions

US weapons Syria
The Syrian Army troops have discovered a large cache of US-made arms and ammunition at the positions of the ISIL and Al-Nusra Front (Tahrir al-Sham Hay'at or the Levant Liberation Board) in the provinces of Hama, Aleppo and Idlib, field sources confirmed on Sunday.

The sources said that the army units seized large volumes of weapons and munitions left behind by ISIL and Al-Nusra terrorists, during the army's combing operations in the villages near Ibn Wardan castle in Hama province and in villages in Idlib and Aleppo provinces.

The sources added that the weapons included scores of munitions boxes, dozens of mortar shells, a rocket launcher, and US-made anti-tank TOW missile launchers.

Flashback The monstrosity of ISIS will never be defeated by the Western nations who incubated the virus

ISIS global chessboard
© Eva Bee
The war on terror, that campaign without end launched 14 years ago by George Bush, is tying itself up in ever more grotesque contortions. On Monday the trial in London of a Swedish man, Bherlin Gildo, accused of terrorism in Syria, collapsed after it became clear British intelligence had been arming the same rebel groups the defendant was charged with supporting.

The prosecution abandoned the case, apparently to avoid embarrassing the intelligence services. The defence argued that going ahead with the trial would have been an "affront to justice" when there was plenty of evidence the British state was itself providing "extensive support" to the armed Syrian opposition.

That didn't only include the "non-lethal assistance" boasted of by the government (including body armour and military vehicles), but training, logistical support and the secret supply of "arms on a massive scale". Reports were cited that MI6 had cooperated with the CIA on a "rat line" of arms transfers from Libyan stockpiles to the Syrian rebels in 2012 after the fall of the Gaddafi regime.

Clearly, the absurdity of sending someone to prison for doing what ministers and their security officials were up to themselves became too much. But it's only the latest of a string of such cases. Less fortunate was a London cab driver Anis Sardar, who was given a life sentence a fortnight earlier for taking part in 2007 in resistance to the occupation of Iraq by US and British forces. Armed opposition to illegal invasion and occupation clearly doesn't constitute terrorism or murder on most definitions, including the Geneva convention.

Comment: Rather prophetic words as its obvious nothing has changed in the intervening years. The US is still arming, funding and training terrorists and is no longer bothering to hide the use of these proxy forces against those who ARE actively working to defeat them.

Lavrov says Olympic ban of Russia is because 'they can't beat us fairly'

Lavrov

The doping scandal that keeps many Russian athletes from competing in top events, including the ongoing Winter Olympics, was just part of the West's devious strategy against Moscow, Russia's foreign minister has said.

Sergey Lavrov said barring dozens of Russians from the games was "part of this unfair competition, because the Americans apparently can no longer beat us in a fair fight. They believe that taking back and preserving uncontested leadership in global sports requires sidelining the competition."

The assertion came in an interview the minister gave to Rossia-1 news channel, aired on Sunday. Lavrov said in other areas he saw the same approach, "the use of unilateral, coercive, illegitimate, unlawful actions to obtain the advantage."

Comment: The behavior of the the Olympic Committee and WADA towards Russia has been appalling. Nothing but blatant politics.
